Yes he did, and it could end up costing him a playoff spot. And his is a team (Save goalies) that I WOULD NOT want to play in playoffs.

Daaaaaaarn, Ryder just got traded to Montreal so he missed this game. I just hope he will stay really good because he is one of my main scorers. I can't see why Dallas made the trade at all as Cole has been mediocre to bad last seasons and Ryder has been improving to almost a point per game.

Re: Minstrel Hockey League 2013
Cole and Whitney are buddies. THey had really good chemistry in Carolina together. Cole wanted out of Montreal...pouting since the retirement rubbish in the lockout. Dallas wants to tie up some $ to cap, Montreal wants to unload and Bergevin wants to put stamp on team.....he now has something like 6 picks in the first 90 this year. 2 in each round....and a good solid draft.
Mainly though--Cole is a dickweed and I guess Joe Nieuwendyk likes dickweed?

Re: Minstrel Hockey League 2013
Guess you are going to have to pony up there Timmy T. Going to have to give up someone real good (who helps you win one or two categories) to get someone who will help you win 3.
DO NOT CHANGE THE TIEBREAKERS. It is unfortunate that freaking stupid ESPN changed to the home team winning...really dumb....but what can you do? Quite honestly...Glasgow Goons were not good enough to win if they are only tying that dork V.D.(there finally called him VD)....lol...he is a disease.
So life goes on......

batdad wrote: In the aggregate form, for those who were not here when we started, it was based on the total standings---when you look at the standings page, not the win-loss record we do in the week to week. 14 points are given to each team that leads a category, 13 to 2nd place, 12 to 3rd....all the way down to 1 for 14th place. Ties are added up and averaged. SO if three people are tied for 1st 14+13+12/3 gives you what each team gets which is 13 points. This is the same at each tie level.
SO I took the liberty of doing this for the totals after the 2nd week. It gives you a brief glimpse at where your team stands in a different way. And how close you really are to teams you say you are as good as.
1st place===Corinthians Red Army 137.5 (add up the totals of each category--12 categories)
2nd place===Sancouver Senitals... 131
3rd place=== WIld Boars..............120.5
4th place=== Surahammer Slippers.107.5
5th place====Black Bears.............99
6th place====GLasgow Goons.......91.5
7th place====Cammalleri/Meatbal..91
8th place===West Can Canucks....89.5
9th place====Vasteras Vikings....83.5
10th place===Don't Toews Me....82
11th place===HC Franzen..........76.5
12th place===Prague Dead P......66.5
13th place===Minnesota TItans..56.5
14th place===Concussin Jxn......35.5
So as you can see Glasgow Goons have had a pretty tough schedule, Vasteras Vikings a pretty easy schedule so far. There seems to be a bit of separation already at least from 2nd/3rd-4th/5th and in the bottom 4-5 teams.
ALRIGHTY then....aggregate standings after last night games....was going to do at start of week, but had no time.
1. Wild Boars....132
2. Sancouver ....119
3. Black Bears...113.5
4. West Can.....106.5
5. Surahammer.105
6. Glas Goons...103.5
7. Corinthian... 99.5
8. Vasteras ... . 92
9. Don't Toews..81.5
10 HC Franzen..81
11 Dead Parrot.76.5
12 Minnesota...61.5
13 Cammaleri..56
14 Concussion..32.5
So...first thing that shows to my mind is Corinthians has had a tough few weeks. Dropped dramatically. Next is that West Can Canucks (why are they Canucks...when they are all Oilers?) have had a good jump.
Wild Boars have stayed very steady.
I am down a little but not as much as I thought I might be, still in my same spot.
And um...Surahammer...not to upset the cart or anything...but me thinks you may have had the easiest schedule or darn near it out of the top....5-0 (with help from the ESPN system) and in 1st, but way way down on aggregate in 5th.
Black Bears goaltending is killing it for them.
Goons are on the rise and at a premium.
And I Think the Cammalleri and Meatballs need a little bit of a kick in the butt. What is going on there?
And concussion....well I think the symptoms are strong. VERY STRONG....like not functional? ARe you dead?

So there you have it folks.....just a way to look at your team a little differently.

Re: Minstrel Hockey League 2013
Can I make a suggestion....
That the winner of the aggregate score be awarded a trophy? The Archibalduk Cup. For those who think winning in the regular season is important.
I think that this trophy, although often will be the same for who finishes 1st in our standings, will be different at times...IE SURAHAMMER would be crying in this system.

The Random House Dictionary notes that: "The term Canuck is first recorded about 1835 as an Americanism (American term), originally referring specifically to a French Canadian. This was probably the original meaning, though in Canada and other countries, "Canuck" refers to any Canadian."batdad wrote:West Can Canucks (why are they Canucks...when they are all Oilers?)

I know that I've had an easy road as my team has been brutal some weeks but my goalies (and ESPN) bailed me out. I fear a blow out by the Bears as they got slightly better goaltending than me and most of my other players don't perform at all at the moment. What to do?

I've had a tough time improving in the pool since the max acquisition was lowered but I hope that my time finally will perform as I want soon.

That's a great idea for a trophy! I may use every kind of rule bending to win, involuntary, but I'm all for fairness.

I almost think that playing time for goalies is overvalued, despite me living of it. Neither minutes nor saves actually says how good a goalie is and more often than not you either lose or win both of them.
By the way, it's Surahammar that is my team and birthplace, even though it means "sour hammer".

Re: Minstrel Hockey League 2013
Yeah..the goalie thing is hard. Save percentage, and GAA are too subjective based on how the team is doing. Saves is almost the same. Shutouts again are team based...wins too. It is really hard to find a stat that actually reflects how good a goalie is, and how he performs in the pool.
Example on a good team a great goalie may only face 20 shots per game and let in 2 goals. 18/20..save percent 90 percent. But a goalie on a naff team will face 40 shots and let in 3.....save percent 95%. So that naff team goalie is better in the save percent category.
With goalies at a premium in a 14 team league....you need to be sure the categories you use are not overly reflective of good vs bad team. And you need to be sure they are not overly in favor of the bad team goalie. Hence...wins which reflects good team as a category. Saves which usually reflects weak defensive team....and minutes which is totally neutral and only depends on how many starting goalies you have.
Goalies are totally balanced this way IMHO. It is like having shot blocks, and plus minus in there to help make the dmen more valuable. We thought a ton about hits....but it is way too subjective. Giveaway/Takeaway same thing....Based on home team stat guy. Cal CLutterbuck once was given credit for 10 hits in a game....and I watched closely to see how many I saw....I saw 2 actual hits and alot of working in corners with another guy leaning on him. Totally inflating his hit totals.

I agree with you batdad, it's the most balanced way I can think of too. I don't think it's perfect but it's probably as good as it gets.
Oh boy, I'm gambling with O'Reilly now. My team needs to get better or I won't be in a good position a couple of weeks from now.

Ah you now have the Avs third line centre. He will do okay for you. Beter than Macdonald. Not really a gamble considering who you dumped. I would have, and thought about dumping Nielsen for him, but I need to save my transaction for this week, and really do not care about ROR.

Well, gambling as in "I used my last move this week for a player I don't know when, where and how he will play". Ronald MacDonald haven't done much for me lately and got injured once again, he already tried my patience too much last season. Bad keeper move from my side. ](./images/smilies/wallbash.gif)

It does...it is going to cost me the week. If Corinthians gets ahead of me in PP points or SHP...or catches me in goals or assists.....I am done. I have to hold every category I have the lead in as he is going to beat me in minutes and if Buffalo wins tie me there...5-5-2.
So ....ugh.
