Editing questions (Team Names and TM Symbols)

Post by bbuullddoogg »

Hi all. So I'm trying to do some small edits and the game doesn't seem to like my changes so I'm wondering if anyone knows what I'm doing wrong.

I'm playing EHM 2007 with the latest patch and the original database.

I changed Atlanta Thrashers to Portland Pioneers. There was already a team called Portland Pioneers so I renamed them to something else. I also changed Portland Winterhawks arena to Memorial Coliseum and my new Portland Pioneers to Rose Garden (from Portland Ice House or whatever generic name it had). I also moved Portland to the Pacific Division, Dallas to the Central Division and Nashville to the Southeast Division. Oh and I corrected Portland Winter Hawks to Portland Winterhawks. I started a new game and it said "Index error. Unable to find the ATLANTA_THRASHERS index" and "Index error. Unable to find the PORTLAND_WINTERHAWKS index". However the game did start and I moved around the menus and it didn't seem to have any problems.

Then I went into the editor again and removed the "TM" from all the NHL teams and changed their short names from Stars to Dallas etc. I then started another new game and it came up with a bunch more index errors and then the dreaded "EHM has stopped working" (or whatever) and I had to exit.

Really I'd be happy with just changing Atlanta Thrashers to Portland Pioneers and moving the three teams around to the different divisions. Be nice to also change all the arenas to their correct names and remove the TM's and change the short names but beggars can't be choosers! I'm kinda surprised there isn't any EHM 2007 update that neatens up the database as there's quite a few errors and annoying little things.

Also...I wanted to play with a 2012-2013 roster but the readme in the CSD patch notes states it doesn't work with the CD version of the game. When I originally bought the game online from SI years ago I downloaded it but I also paid a little extra to also get the game on CD. So when I wanted to play again years later I dug out the CD to play but is there some way to use the previous dowloaded version so that I can use the patch and use up to date rosters? I'm assuming not as I recently read the elicense version is now unavailable. I'm using the CD because I'm playing on a different computer that the one I downloaded the game with back then. Hopefully that made sense!

Sorry for the wall of text! I'd greatly appreciate any help anyone can provide.

P.S re the license/CD/CSD thingy...I found the original email of purchase from SI (2007 wow!) and the license # is the same as the license of the CD they sent me. So do you think the CSD WOULD work for me or not?

Thanks!

Regarding the editing questions...the game doesn't like when you remove teams from the database (the "unable to find" errors), and it often doesn't like it when you change the team names (i.e. removing the TM). Best/safest way is to just make the team defunct rather than deleting the team or changing the name, and create a new team to replace them. Moving teams around within a league usually works as long as the number of teams in the league and in each division stays the same. Arena edits should work. Testing frequently and saving backups frequently is vital!

Alas the CSD Patch does not work with the CD version (but there is a "2006" version" of the TBL rosters too!)

You could try downloading the demo http://www.ehmtheblueline.com/forums/vi ... =82&t=9526 and input your code...if it works, I'd think the CSD Patch should work

Regards :-)

P.S. For editing another option beyond the Pregame Editor is the EHM Updater http://www.ehmtheblueline.com/forums/vi ... 73#p157773

Awesome. Thank you for the fast and in-depth response. So lets say I make a new team (or maybe assign the Portland Pioneer team in the game to the NHL) and remove another team like the Thrashers, how easy is it to re-assign all the Thrashers' players to Portland?

I don't think it's that hard (but I do a lot of editing!)
With the Pregame Editor it's a one player at a time thing (changing the Club Contracted To/Playing For on each player's Contract Details tab)
With the Updater it's done in a spreadsheet, and then all the changes applied at once

Regarding the CSD Patch: It won't work with the CD version regardless of your serial. It only works with the digital download version (i.e. the eLicense version). However, the eLicense PC version is still for sale and you can still re-download it.

Try what Nino says; download the eLicense demo and input your serial number. If it likes your serial number then it'll activate the demo into the full version - and you'll be able to use the CSD Patch.

The Eastside Hockey Manager 2007 Try'n'Buy Demo allows you to play a six month trial of the game. The demo uses the eLicense activation system which allows you to convert the demo into the full version by purchasing a license / serial code. http://www.ehmtheblueline.com/forums/vi ... =82&t=9526

Ok sorry maybe I'm being dumb but when you've downloaded the try'n'buy demo, how do you apply the license?

Hmmm...it's been a few years since I did so...I'm not sure, but maybe you have to select "buy" and then you'll be able to enter a code if you have one?

It's weird I'm not seeing anything different on the front screen than usual. I'm wondering if I'm just not uninstalling my regular version correctly. I tried hitting uninstall in my control panel and also physically deleted everything EHM I could find.

I might just give up on trying to play with a different start date and use one of the different databases you linked.

You could search your computer for uninstall and you should see "uninstall a program" - click on that and you'll get a list of everything running on your computer...select EHM07 and right click and you can select uninstall

Before the game starts there should be a screen where you can choose either to play the demo or "acquire licence" or something like that. Can't recall, it's been a while.

Yeah I tried all that. I think maybe the license that I already have must be stored somewhere different than in the EHM folder. It's also not in Documents/SI/EHM 2007 either.

There is no license file associated with EHM. It's just a serial number you enter. Try the following:

1 Install the try'n'buy and load up the game. You should be presented with an eLicense window which allows you to play the demo, buy the game or enter a serial number. You'll need to choose the serial number/activation option. Enter your serial number and that'll give you the full version.

2 If you're not presented with the eLicense window, load EHM and then click on the Preferences button (it's the tool-shaped icon near the bottom of the main menu screen). At the top of the Preferences screen there should be some yellow text stating the version number and whether it is the full version or the demo. If it says that you have the full version then all is good. If it says that it is the demo, follow #3 below.

3 If the Preferences screen says that you have the demo, exit EHM. Create a shortcut to EHM and add the "unlicense" command to it. You do this by right-clicking on the shortcut, select Properties and then add -unlicense to the Target box outside of the quotation marks. It'll look a little like this:

Code: Select all

"C:/Program Files/Sports Interactive/NHL Eastside Hockey Manager 2007/ehm2007.exe" -unlicense
Double-click on the shortcut and I think this should get the eLicense window to appear. Once you have used the shortcut, delete it because each time you run it, it'll unlicense your game.

I did completely uninstall EHM 2007. When I then downloaded and ran the try n buy version, it set up the game and when I went in it shows a "purchased" version. There is no option to enter any license. Somehow it knows I have previously entered a license. I think on this computer I'm stuck with the CD version. Which I guess saves me having to pay for the game twice but does mean I won't be able to using the CSD patch.

Ok another question. If you use the CSD patch on the CD version of the game and use the TBL 5.3 rosters and start from 2012, is there a date in the game when you will always get an error message and determine things are not gonna work? Or is it different every time? If there's a specific date I could just continue to that date and see if I can get it to work with the patch. If not, I'll quit bugging you guys :) and just use one of the updates with a 2006 start date. Thanks!

Isn't that good though?! If you have the purchased version installed then you'll be able to use the CSD Patch. Did you try checking the game version on the Game Preferences screen as I suggested in my previous post? I've posted a screenshot at the end of this post on how the eLicense version indicates that you're running a purchased version.

The CSD Patch doesn't work with the CD version at all because the ehm2007.exe file for the CD version is very different to the eLicense version. We've tested the CD version on a couple of machines and all of them are different to the eLicense version. It's not that the CD version will be unstable or crash, it's that the start date won't change. In fact, the CSD Patch displays an error and will not apply the patch if it detects the CD version (there are ways to detect whether you are running the eLicense or the CD version).

Ok thank you all for your patience. I have learned a lot. I have now tried applying the CSD patch with the TBL 5.3 rosters and it works. However just for fun I deleted the game and installed it off the CD and again applied the CSD patch with the TBL 5.3 rosters and it still works. So for me the CSD patch is working with my CD version of the game. I’m glad to hear you say that if it didn’t work it would not even load up. I kinda assumed it would load up but would then crash at some point. I’m really happy I can use newer rosters and start dates and I appreciate you all explaining various things to me. And Arch, I’m at work right now and can’t see your screenshot but later I’ll check that against what version it says in my preferences. But yes I did do what you said and it said “purchased” whether I was using the try n buy or the CD versions.

So back to editing. If I want to put Portland in the NHL, I am now understanding that it would be best to create that team rather than edit any existing team. As there was previously a “Portland Pioneers” and they’re in the database it would probably be better for me to create a team with a different name. It seems like that should all be easy enough and if the Rose Garden arena is not in the game I’ll just create that too and assign it to Portland. I will probably remove the cash strapped Coyotes and move all their players to Portland. So is the best way just to go into the game, write down every player assigned to Phoenix, go into the editor and then change their team to my new Portland team? Or is there a quicker way? And then logos. Should a novice even attempt to make one? I see there are small, medium, large & huge logos so I assume even if I could do it I’d ideally need to make more than one.

You could use the existing Portland Pioneers if you like - so long as you'd keep their name the same. If you don't want "Pioneers" and want something else, then go ahead and create a new Portland team as you suggest. Creating a new arena is probably the easiest way to go about sorting out the arena (although I don't think there are the same restrictions/crashes in relation to arena names as there are for team/league names).

There are two ways you could move the players from Phoenix to Portland:

1) The Pre-Game Editor:

1a) Load the DB in the Pre-Game Editor
1b) Click on the Staff & Players tab.
1c) Click on the Filter Staff button -> Tick the "Club Contracted" box and select Phoenix Coyotes -> Click on Apply Filter
1d) You will now see all of the staff contracted to Phoenix listed in the Editor. You can then go through each of them and move them to your Portland team.

2) The EHM Updater:

The EHM Updater is more suited to batch editing like what you're trying to achieve. The Updater can be used to export a list of staff in the database which you can then filter down to Phoenix. Then you can use a contract_update file to list the staff and their new team. This is then loaded into the Updater and it applies the changes to your database. If you want to try this method, but it sounds confusing then let me know and I'll post a step-by-step guide with screenshots. It sounds a bit confusing at first, but once you understand how it works, you can make a lot of changes to the database very easily (such as using Excel to edit player/non-player attributes, create new players/non-players and edit contracts).

As for logos - Yes you need four sizes. Create your master image/template according to the size of the Huge image and then you can resize it in order to make copies for the other three sizes. Details on image sizes and where to install them can be found here:

http://www.ehmtheblueline.com/wiki/inde ... 07#Teams_2 (Where to install them - look under the 'Teams' heading)
- AND -
http://www.ehmtheblueline.com/wiki/inde ... (EHM_2007) (image sizes)
