Sweden 1 Suisse 0
Canada 6 Austria 0

Sweden had a Canada type game! Ruh Roh. Luckily they do not have Tommy Salo in net and no Belorussians to worry about.

Salo never really recovered from that goal...

Sure he did...he played average goal for the rest of his career, just like he did before that goal. Kind of like Cloutier vs Lidstrom. :-D

Ruh roh...here come the Oiler fans. Phew...there are not any of those left.

That's not fair! One thing that's true is the Oilers have been consistent in their suckiness :-D

Ok that's better now! :-D
Anyway as someone said he lives in small city in Canada of 100 000 ppl let me tell you our capital is 300 000 and 2nd biggest 150 000 then few of 30-50k and then all small towns.
Well in Qc my city is somewhere like the 5th or 6th biggest city, we are near 200 000 citizens here. One thing I'm sure we have more hockey rinks than you here. :-D

That USA-RUS game was the perfect example of the conflict a lot of us American and/or Wings fans feel with the Olympics.

Backes cross-checking Markov in the head because he won't let go of his stick? I understand, but screw Backes, he's a dirtbag anyways and he's be doing it anyways just because Markov was down.

Datsyuk shooting in Shootout? Goooooooo Pavel. Joe Pavelski shooting for USA? HAHAH, screw him... and laugh at him, he missed.

It's hard to put aside team/club hate.

Wooohoooo Slovenia kick ass over Slovakia...very nice hockey by our players. Kopitar`s goal was a great one. Our goalie again head a great game and not to mention he play in Slovakia and is at the moment best goalie in the league :-D
1st goal was again by a trio Jeglic, Sabolic & Ticar..these guys play together since kids..they scored both against Russia as well.
We could left Slovakia on 0 if we didnt get a goal 17 sec before the end of the game.

From the other perspective, we often find it sad that Canadians are so incredibly insecure they unite to cheer for the same guys they're screaming for the heads of the other 3 years and 340 days. ;-)

Remember, if YOU'RE doing it it's patriotism!!! If SOMEONE ELSE is doing it, it's stupid and xenophobic. ;-)

'lympics, ya'll.

My comment wasn't about who you were cheering FOR, but rather who you were cheering AGAINST (with words like dirtbag/hate)...sounds like schadenfreude to me (and I'm not as convinced as you that your views represents the majority of Americans, or even the majority of American hockey fans)

What you're doing is just hating someone because he plays for a rival team in the NHL. This is stupid.

I'm sorry that you can only understand it in most basic terms that don't actually apply to what I'm saying.

No, a guy like Backes has been a complete and utter dirtbag in STL his entire career. That he has been their Captain is a supreme joke, he doesn't now what leadership even is. He also has attempted to injure numerous Wings players. When STL plays DET, he melts down so often and spends so much time in the penalty box, it's pathetic, he's hurt his own team so many times...

Now take note... TJ Oshie plays for that exact same STL team as Backes and... I'm fairly neutral on him. It has nothing to do with teams, it has to do with prior actions. Has nothing to do with a"rival" team.

That's why whenever I watch Canada play I root for Shea Weber to personally fail in a spectacular manner, because he got away with treating Zetterberg's head like it was WWE, and his stickwork and punching after whistles around the league is disgusting. While at the same time I could feel fairly neutral on his defensive partner.

Only team I'm openly rooting for failure for all-around is Russia simply because of the politics of it all and I think it would be appropriate for Putin to watch his team and his Games go medal-less. And even then I like some of the guys on Russia.

LOL. Backes is not a dirt bag. He plays the game hard, physical and is an extremely good player. But of course...you do not understand that. Do you have to be aware of him on ice? Hell yeah, for about 2000 reasons. The crosscheck was half assed, and of course you go after it. He is just a darn good hockey player that does not play for the Wings, and you are off on him.

That is unfortunate. LOL at Oshie vs Backes comparison of how you are okay with Oshie and hate Backes. Two totally different types of players. So of course you love the skill guy, and hate the guy who plays HARD and on the edge....that is actually totally understandable as you are primarily (actually the more I read your stuff) ONLY a Wings fan. Wings have the style of player-or at least always used to...that you like Oshie. I have no issue with that.

Weber -- you hate the best defenseman in hockey. LOL. Wings pedestal again. What is funny about it all is that Backes and Weber have both been pursued by the Wings in the past...at which point you would love them.

How did you feel about guys like McCarty, Kocur, Draper, Maltby...all guys who were MAJOR contributors to your championship wins who do EXACTLY the same kind of things that Backes and Weber do on the ice. Konstantinov? Guy was nicknamed Vlad the IMPALER.

But yeah, it has nothing to do with the fact that they play for teams that the Wings fans hate. It is totally impartial.

:dunno:

I used to hate guys like Gretzky, Kurri, Anderson, Messier, Coffey, Fogolin, Fuhr, Moog, Ranford, Lafleur, Shutt, Gainey, Robinson, Risebrough.

Then I grew up, and realized that I was jealous of the fact that those guys were AMAZING hockey players, and just not play for the teams that I liked at the time, and was a fan of. Once I did that, I started to become someone who was a hockey person, and not just a fan of a team or teams. As a kid...Flyers, Canucks were my teams.

Then I turned 17 and realized that the guys on the other teams I hated had something to offer, and started to LOVE watching other teams play all the time. And realized...that HOCKEY was a great game, and sure there are good guys and bad guys....but it is not the WWE, which is the way you treat it. You love your faces and hate your heels.

What is your ideal roster Primis?

Mine would look something like this:

Ovechkin-Crosby-Stamkos
Tavares-Toews-Kane
Zetterberg-Datsyuk- Kopitar/Pavelski
Perry-Getzlaff-Neal
Sedin-Sedin-Backes/Benn

Keith-Weber
Doughty-Chara
Karlsson-Pietrangelo
Subban-Suter
Hedman-Kronwall

Lundquist
Rask
Quick
then it gets tough in net for me.

Please note...this is a 2 minute drill, there are going to be guys I love I missed.

Please note...this is "TEAM" with someone to fill every hole, Not "ALL STAR" team which would see more skill players on it like St Louis, etc.

One thing my team will never be accused of is homerism. That 5th line is there, because....well...the twins are freaking ridiculous with what they see on the ice. Would they ever play? Not likely.

Speed, size, skill, vision, strength, power, edge, mobility, shot, puck skills, passing...need it all to be totally amazing. Those guys all have it. Leadership too.

You can pick any one of the options on the lines I have there and that team...would be UNBEATABLE. Which is why Backes is there, guy does a little of everything (although admittedly not the smartest and not the most visionary in the world...which is why Kesler is not there)

I am guessing Primis that your ideal team would not have anyone on it who has ever hit anyone hard.

Oh an attempt to troll again.

You've always been delusional since you started to post regurlaly here. You don't want to just come back like you were before? Like, invisible? Maybe posting 1 or 2 times per month?

The fact that most people thinks different of you never rang a bell in your head? It's ok to have opinions and share it with others, the forum is there for that but at some point when almost EVERYONE is telling you something different and doesn't actually understands you, it's time to question yourself I think.
