Having problems with creating new teams for NHL

Post by Chemich »

So far I've get everything else to work, they have a proper salary cap, I've made premade staff for the teams, and I've put them in respective divisions with AHL affiliates (premade AHL affiliates ofc.)

the teams I've added are:
- Quebec Nordiques
- Hartford Whalers

(I've made the teams, and turned the originals versions into "dead teams" which aren't in any league, division.)

Why? Simply because I wanted them in the game, I mean... why not?

So far they load just fine like any normal team, but they don't show up in the standings whatsoever. They're just ignored, and don't really count for anything (I doubt they qualify for the playoffs honestly, but I haven't gotten that far in.)

Is there something I'm missing? Maybe something I'm supposed to edit that I haven't?

I made sure they were apart of divisions, as well as the NHL. I made sure to give them "order numbers," but it seems no matter what I edit it doesn't get them into the overall NHL standings.

If anyone could lead me in the direction of fixing this problem I'd appreciate it, I used the "Pre Game Editor" for "NHL Eastside Hockey Manager 2007."

I've also raised the salary cap respectively so the teams will have adequate salary room to be added into the league.

Any help would be appreciated (I've searched the forums for answers, but nothing has seemed to come relatively close to my issue.)

If any of you know of other threads that have this fix, or possible fixes I give a thank you in advance.

I once played with Quebec (made them myself). I just edited an original NHL team, didn't create a new one, and it worked fine.

I'm sure someone here can help you with your problem. :-)

I'd double check your alignment for them. I've done NHL "expansion games" (Seattle, Hartford, Quebec, Kansas City, Cincinnati, Houston, etc)... many times, just like you describe and never had any problem, so long as the team your adding gets put into the same league and division as the team you're replacing (the "one for one" rule).

Also, make sure the team you're adding has a Nickname and initials appropriately like other teams. I've noticed that if they don't, that can sometimes cause wonkiness for displaying standings.

I agree with Primis

But it sounds like you followed the "one for one" rule, and it didn't work...

Given the game loads OK but the new teams don't show in the standings, it sounds like you have to many teams in the NHL

If you double check and find everything looks correct (i.e. only 30 NHL teams, old teams defunct and new teams with the correct league/conference/division) I'd start afresh, and make just one change (I.e. swap Quebec with an NHL team, so the NHL team becomes "dead" as you say and Quebec replaces them) and test it. I'd keep making your changes in this way.

I've had "weirdness" occur when editing in the past, and this was how I tackled it (helps ensure accuracy as well as isolates the weirdness if there is some...for example, with the 1974 database I was ultimately unable to move the Ottawa Senators without causing a crash)

So there's no means of actually adding extra teams? The whole point was to keep most of the original teams (wth the exception of changing the Thrashers to the Jets,) and add the Whalers and Nordiques alongside the teams.

Would there be a way to uncap the NHL limit, or am I pretty much screwed in that sense? I think there has to be a way since they can automatically have their own games generated throughout an entire season, it's just one more detail away from being able to add them officially and compete for the cup...

Well if no one has any ideas I'll just take them off, sucks... I was really hoping this would work. :(

anyways thanks for all your responses, if anyone has any ideas to how this might be possible lmk... going to see if I can't program this in myself or not. if I find a way i'll let everyone know.

The NHL alignment is hard-coded into the .EXE. That means it *has* to be 30 teams, and it *has* to use the old alignment.

If you want Quebec and Hartford in, and remove 2 other teams (making sure HFD and QUE are subbed in to the divisions of the two teams they are replacing), it should work fine. You could do NYI <--> HFD, and OTT <--> QUE swaps, or something similar. But you can't have more than 30 teams active, and every division has to have 5 teams (no more, no less).
