Re: Official 13-14 NHL Regular Season Thread
Been there with the Peverley thing. I remember quite vividly how it all happened with Jiri Fischer. Sounds like it was a fairly similar thing. My wife's reaction to the news was "Wait, they just postpone the game that already started?" but I explained to her that I sincerely doubt players for either team have interest in continuing after that and just want news from the hospital.
They halted and completely postponed the game for Fischer and then picked it back up at a later date, spotting NAS a 1-0 lead they had at the time of the incident IIRC when they resumed.
I hope for Rich's sake everything's ok... if it's a condition they know about, and this happens... I wont lie, any doctor clearing him to play without further correction should immediately be stripped of their license to practice. He supposedly had surgery to correct it already, and one would think this is evidence that it didn't fix everything. It's a lot more important that he gets to live a full life with his family. I always feel so bad for Jiri Fischer, and then I remember he's still around in hockey (player development with the Wings) and even got to play in the Alumni Game at Comerica Park. The alternative is so much worse.
A perfectly-healthy kid in Grandville, MI (suburb of Grand Rapids) who was captain of his HS hockey team died in his sleep the other night before a playoff game, because of what they later discovered was an undetected heart abnormality. You can't mess around with this stuff.

Tough year for hockey players (well month or two) Letang, Bozon and now Peverly. Hope all 3 get a whole lot better and fast. Totally sucks.

PEverley and Letang seems to do well. No news on Bozon though, it's really scary.

Not directly NHL related but in regards to Trafford the Saginaw Spirit forward, his body was found in his truck today. Thoughts and prayers to his family.

Yeah brutal and sad. THought things came in threes. But now 4 with Letang, Bozon, Peverly, Traffod. But 2 of the 4 are not as horrid as the other two, at least it seems that Letang and Peverly will end up fine for now. Not sure about Bozon, but induced coma sounds horrible

Re: Official 13-14 NHL Regular Season Thread
I know this thread turned to more-morbid things of late, but...
GM meetings: I don't know what they're trying to accomplish anymore. With all the problems in the game and they're wanting to tweak faceoffs? Uhhhh... sure, whatever. Unless they're addressing the "drop the puck already" issue and/or do something to take the power away from them to randomly toss people from faceoffs just because they can, they're not going to accomplish anything. We'll mess with that, but still not willing to fix OT/SO and the stupid Loser Point? And still, not willing to look again at Bob Gainey's suggestions to reduce/discourage blocked shots? God, the league has some real idiots running things, and given that this is GM's I'm not talking about the owners and Bettman this time...
Orrrrrrr, they could just start calling all the clutching and grabbing that has been allowed to creep back in again. Everyone does it, and it's ugly. This playoffs might be awful to watch if this keeps up.
And please please PLEASE kill the stupid Puck Over The Glass rule? There is no greater stupidity than stopping the game to call a Delay of Game penalty for something that is now accidental 100% of the time, is there?
In other news... I... don't even know anymore. DET may now be without Tomas Jurco a while as he was cross-checked in the ribs by Blake Comeau and was in immense pain. It's pretty clear DET isn't going to the playoffs and all, but... do we really have to be burning MORE guys' waiver eligibility, given that it was already going to be ugly after camp next season?

Re: Official 13-14 NHL Regular Season Thread
LOL, faceoff hell. Love the control trips. They do this in amateur and minor hockey as well. IT makes me insane.
The puck over the glass penalty is there for a reason. Coaches tell the players to do it as strategy. It was a real problem. that one needs to stay. It would happen 5-6 times per 30 minutes of play in some cases.
Worried about waiver eligibility? Wow. All that means is the Wings have a ton of good prospects if the team is worried about it. That is a great thing. Experience and play time. Many teams do not have enough guys to even be capable of calling more than 3 up....lots of teams have 1 dman and 2 forwards capable of playing up that are in the minors. Tops. Burning more waiver eligibility? What does that really matter? I just do not see the problem, outside of the team having bad luck.
Curious...post a man games lost to injury for the league. Where are the wings on that list for this season?

Supposedly 2nd behind PIT (Letang, Martin, and.... who? I'm not sure who else they've lost honestly or how the could be up there like that in the games lost to injury?).batdad wrote:Curious...post a man games lost to injury for the league. Where are the wings on that list for this season?
I know Springing Malik (no relation to The Malik Report) has a metric called CHIP (Cap Hit of Injured Players) and DET has led that for the last few updates with both Zetterberg and Datsyuk out, combined with Weiss' cap hit.

Are you serious? Letang, Martin, Dupuis, Vokoun, Bennett and Conner or Zolnierczyk. I think it's best situation this season for Pens.

Ahhh, Vokoun. That's a lot of games lost right there. I had forgotten that Vokoun was in PIT. I knew to get up there in MGL, it was going to take another big one. That's 60-some right there.

Penguins - Man Game Lost 391 Injury 323
Detroit - Man Game Lost 286 Injury 204
Vokoun and Dupuis probably out for season, Bennet, Letang and Martin also at least more 4 weeks. Pens will be near record at the end of the season.

LOL Burrows finally does something. Then screws up in shootout. Kesler likely gone for year with knee on knee hit from Slater.
What a circus.

That's my bad, and accidental I guess. I do that without a thought anymore, used to posting at some places that don't filter at all, so that's me "censoring" myself. Not trying to bypass a filter.archibalduk wrote:Can we avoid bypassing the swear filter please. I've edited your post to remove those words. I want to keep this a family friendly forum. Thanks.

Yeah I need to be better at that too. I do like to see the filtered words, so I usually write the actual curse word so I can see what the latest fun thing archi has come up with is.
Actually now that I think about it do not think I have ever used *s or any other thing to have a curse word show. That would be too creative...I just use the word and let the filter say pants.

So the 3rd period of the Ottawa - Montreal game was crazy. I really thought Montreal was done for but I should never underestimate the Senator's ability to collapse when leading.
Ottawa is actually 19-1-5 when leading after two periods this year. I thought it was a for sure loss for Montreal.

Game was pretty weird. Everything happened in the last 5 mins. I stopped watching the game at 4-1 and then my friend told me to check if something had happened and it was 4-3. I decided to check the remaining 3 minutes until that goal at .04. I don't think I've seen live a goal that close to the end of the game. darn Lehner was widdled after the OT.

Hard to believe the Habs did something that had never happened in NHL history. Especially since that one team has pretty much done everything.

Re: Official 13-14 NHL Regular Season Thread
DET's injury situation has hit absolutely absurd levels.
Abdelkader, Bertuzzi, and Helm all out (again) now as of recent. Teemu Pulkkinen called up, then Landon Ferraro, and now.... the Wings will apparently be playing D Brendan Smith at forward tonight because they've literally run out of options, Jakub Kindl will be back on the blueline (presumably paired with the joke that is named Kyle Quincey).
10 guys injured and out at once is a new high for the season. (EDIT: Scratch that, if Bertuzzi can't play its ELEVEN injured at once. Gustavsson is only non-forward).
They're literally running out of guys in Grand Rapids.

Something suggests to me the Wings might need to sack their entire medical staff?
How are these injuries happening? In games, practice, or?
