Yeah, that article is found here: http://www.latimes.com/sports/sportsnow ... story.html

Boudreau promised him more ice time, more PP time, and said he wanted to see him hit 700 goals (I think that was the number). Early in the season he was true to his word but as the season went on, Boudreau didn't give him as many opportunities.

Yeah I know he was benched in the playoffs and that he wasn't really happy about it.

Fans are miffed at this because the team had said he was fine after being held out of the final Traverse City game.... but Mantha himself also said he was fine and was not showing any ill effects. So it was a bit of a surprise.

Let's be honest here though: he was never going to play in Detroit before the All Star break anyways, at the soonest. Maybe this quiets some of the discontent from fans that he get a shot in DET and gives him an AHL season to adjust. It's already bad enough Tomas Jurco will have to start in Grand Rapids, ala Gustav Nyquist last year. Gotta' have the rotting carcass of Dan Cleary on the roster still, after all...

Boudreau lost faith in Teemu because Teemu was old and slow. There's really no kinder way of putting it. Two playoffs ago when I watched ANA-DET, Selanne was getting beat to *everything*. He just didn't have that extra bit anymore that he needed. So Boudreau cut his ES time, and used him as a PP specialist, and you could practically see Selanne get all hurt mentally over it. When the playoffs ended, everyone waited to see what injury Teemu was hiding.... and there was none. Boudreau continued to try to use him as a specialist, and Teemu wanted to still be a top line star even though other guys on the roster were clearly overtaking him in usefulness.

Selanne never came to terms with his own age and body like Jagr has. It's surprising (and sad) that it's Jagr that has learned to adjust and extended his carer so much by accepting lesser roles, and Teemu's ego never let him.

Josh Harding has been suspended by the Wild after he fractured his right foot while having an altercation with another player. He will not get paid until he's healthy again.

Teemu wasn't slow just slow for what he used to be. And had slowed down enough that his game was not as effective because it relied on his speed. He was still faster than almost all the Ducks and that is why he was upset. He could not see that he other guys provided more becUserheir games were not as built around the speed and did not adjust to his lack of top end that he used to have.

That being said Boudreau is and always has been a dick to gifted players who don't do everything in their own end and are not muckers and grinders. /Ovenchicken / green /anyone else who can score he has ever coached n

Heard that the Sens have signed Ryan to an extension and around 7 millions a year. Ouch that's way too high IMO. They also named Karlsson captain, which doesn't surprise me at all.

Johansen finally signed a 3 years deal worth 4 millions per year with the Jackets. Exactly the type of deal he should've agreed to in the first place.

Habs have also traded Budaj to Winnipeg to make place for Dustin Tokarski. I'm not really sure about this one yet but I'm curious to see what Tokarski will do as an NHL back-up.

Here's (I think) an interesting article looking at how NHL goals were scored (type/distance), comparing league data from 2011-12 with league data from 2013-14 (and there's some added Toronto specific analysis for Leaf fans!) http://www.thestar.com/sports/breakaway ... cored.html

Those numbers really tell anyone anything they did not know?

Shots from closer to net more likely to go in.
Deflections/tips more likely to go in. Traffic to net causes goals.
Slap shot is inneffective.
Wrist shot and snap shot...score more than the clapper.

That the Leafs suck at defending in soooo many ways.

If anyone reads this article and learns anything new from the statistics that are there...well really do not know much about the game.

Absolutely not something that stats are needed to tell us. That goals are scored in "the tough" areas. LOL.
