Re: Help! I need advice for my team/roster (Official Thread)
Perhaps more of a tactics question, but I have the game set to allow for my coach to make all of the tactics, set lines, etc.
I notice though, the tactics/units screens don't seem to ever change. Heck, he hasn't even named alternate captains. Why isn't this working?
Also, I notice that the coach won't decide on whom to healthy scratch?
Thanks for the help!

I think captains remains your decision though. As for line change....I don't think the coach AI is deep enough to change a players place if he's not doing well with his current linemates. I might be wrong though, since I always manage everything in my games.

Sure, I just don't like having certain advantages over the AI teams. I imagine they behave the same way as my auto-coach does?

He does not do things the way it looks in the screen for roster. Guaranteed things are changed from that in the game at times. I have seen it. But yeah the goons killing penalties. Love it.

Re: Help! I need advice for my team/roster (Official Thread)
I decided to use the 2006 EHM UUDB where all of the current players are in the file... such as taylor hall as a 13 yr old etc thought i would play as NY Islanders and rebuild them...
My question is with rebuilding the Islanders.
The Roster has Rike Dipietro, Mike Dunham, Tom Poti, Brendan Witt, Alexei Zhitnik, Joel Bouchard, Bruno Gervais, Sean Hill, Radek Martinek, Jason blake, Andy Hilbert, Chris Simon, Mike York, Shawn Bates, Viktor Kozlov, Mike Sillinger, Arron Asham, Trent Hunter, Richard Park and Miroslav Satan...
I know it's unrealistic to unload the full squad for picks and prospects... whats the best way to do a rebuild... trade 3-4 players a season for picks and specs?

Re: Help! I need advice for my team/roster (Official Thread)
Sim the first boring seasons as quick as you can and draft good players one by one. Then when the young guys are pushing slowly trade players away or let them go UFA. For the start trading 2 players for picks is decent. You've never done that since you're playing EHM?

You never played in the NHL in EHM and you're on TBL since almost 8 years! Wow

Why on earth are my defensmen always the ones to start my shootouts? Is there a place to change this? I thought I had things on auto-coach, but this is nuts!

Sure. Where do I set who takes shootout penalty shots though? I don't even see the option?

The list only appears when you're at the beginning of the shootout. It's not an option in the tactics menu.

You can set your shootout order before games. Go to you team's Roster screen. Next, go to the View drop-down and click "Show Shootout Choices". You can set your shootout order there.

Re: Help! I need advice for my team/roster (Official Thread)
Thanks, everyone, for the help thus far!
Does the AI auto-balance your minor league teams? It seems difficult to send guys between these teams to balance the roster out as I keep getting notification that the team's roster is full. That's fine and dandy, but is there a way to swap guys to balance each roster?
With injuries, I can't tell if the AI is handling things like a team only having 5 defensemen, 10 forwards, etc.

Re: Help! I need advice for my team/roster (Official Thread)
Yeah you can check your tactics on that team (minor league) to see what they are doing with their lineup, and who is dressing. Easy to tell from the stats screen for that team what they are doing.
ECHL and affiliates outside the AHL for your team will have players they sign themselves, and you likely have a limit as to how many you can have play there. Basically the only way to "balance" the rosters is to send a guy up from ECHL to AHL< and immediately send one down. If you do not do it immediately...the ECHL team will bring someone else in and there will be no room.
I always assign my first training camp cuts to the ECHL Team so that I have the spots there, and they do not fil up.

Re: Help! I need advice for my team/roster (Official Thread)
So with all of the affilate teams full, and me now having a few too many guys on the roster due to waiver claims and guys coming off IR, is the only way to get the roster in-tact the cut these guys?
I've passed them through waivers already, so it seems I need to negotiate a buyout or release?
Maybe I should do that with the minor league guys instead, and send these NHL guys down?

Re: Help! I need advice for my team/roster (Official Thread)
Question about reentry waivers:
It seems I can't call up a guy from the minors without running the risk of him being claimed. Fair enough; I understand the concept of 2-way contracts, etc. My question is, is there EVER a time I'll be able to call this guy up without any risk? Offseason?
I guess I didn't pay close enough attention. I'm in the 2014 season playing day-by-day to the real NHL, and I'm trying to recall D Chris Summers back to my Coyotes team. He played in the NHL last year it seems, but none this year.

Re: Help! I need advice for my team/roster (Official Thread)
Your free to move people in the offseason. The waiver rules are:
A number of players are exempt from the waivers and Waiver Draft:
Skaters who sign their first NHL contract at the age of 18 are exempt for five years and 19 year old skaters are exempt for four years. Such exemption is reduced to three years once such players have played more than ten games in the NHL.
Goalies who sign their first NHL contract at the age of 18 are exempt for six years and 19 year old goalies are exempt for five years. Such exemption is reduced to four years once such players have played more than ten games in the NHL.
A player of at least 20 years old who plays his first NHL game has three years of exemption from the waivers and Waiver Draft.
Rules taken from Archi's 05 guide.

It also has to do with number of NHL games played. Don't know the exact number.
You can choose to view your roster on waiver eligibility to see who is available for a call-up

Re: Help! I need advice for my team/roster (Official Thread)
Hello, I didn't want to start another topic and I don't know where to ask but I have question about my rosters. Actually I'm playing with Slovan Bratislava and I want to know how long I have to wait till foreign players will have 2nd (in this example Slovakian) nationality. Is it even possible in EHM
? It's quite hard to play in KHL due to rosters limits.

Re: Help! I need advice for my team/roster (Official Thread)
Just passed the trade deadline in my real-time, day-to-day solo sim, and I got an email today about owners paying of $14.25M of the team's debts to keep the team from falling into receivership. It's labeled as a cash infusion? I'm the Coyotes, so what does this mean, exactly?
Also, does this game allow for things like relocation?

Re: Help! I need advice for my team/roster (Official Thread)
No relocation. And that means you have spent over budget, or that your income is well below the expenses you have for your payroll, staff, and incidental expenses. So the owners came up with some cash out of their pockets. It means nothing really if your team is winning. If your team is not winning, and only average you could be canned.
It happens with the teams that do not have a great fan base in the game a fair bit.

Re: Help! I need advice for my team/roster (Official Thread)
Does anyone know if this guy is ready for full time NHL duty? I don't have a natural second line winger and I was wondering if you guys think he'd be able to fill in that hole. The only things that are really unattractive to me are his speed and agility. I usually prefer the team to play a fast, offensive style game.
I drafted him in the 3rd round (64th overall). Head scout thinks he can be a first line winger in the future.
