Re: Offical Tactics Thread: General / Even Strength

Another one question, guys. I've noticed that default "Run and gun" tactics works even better than all of my tactic variations which I've tried to use during the season. With my tactics my team grind out wins or lost them (it happened much more often). But when I've set it to default "Run and gun" and put into roster more offensive-minded players (with my tactics I've tried to play with two offensive lines and two defensive lines)my team started to win a games in very good style.
So my question is: is it possible to create really good tactics from zero and whether the "Run and Gun" tactics is really very good in this game? Is it possible to win with Neutral Zone Trap or defensive tactics?

Hey guys,

Do you know what the best tactics for a really small team would be? Probably some kind of defensive tactic? Like for instance, if you want to take control of a Division I or Division II national team. I know most of the tactics are for NHL-caliber teams where you can control what kind of players to trade for, and the competition is on your level, but what if you went for an ultra-difficult challenge? Thanks!

Quick question, gents:

I'm trying to let my coach control tactics, as it's not really my job as GM, yet whenever I click "Ask Coach," It doesn't seem much changes, aside from line changes.

Is there a way to get the coach handle all tactics? Maybe something in the GM Settings that I misinterpreted?

Hi guys, hope this is the right thread for this! I've got 2 young goalies on my squad but I'm struggling to know the best way of rotating them. There's one clear starter but he is the younger of the two. Any tips on the best way to rotate them? The starter is 20 and the backup is 22.

Thanks guys! Appreciate any advice/tips.

Are either one of them really ready? If you're talking about an NHL team, they both seem kind of young. I would sign an older journeyman goalie to split time with the 22 year old and let the 20 year old play in the AHL and get a ton of ice time. You could risk ruining him if you throw him to the wolves too soon.

Thanks for the reply! That is a concern, he's been doing fine so far, he's never been shelled yet. As it stands I'm ok giving him his push on a rotation with my backup. Is was thinking playing the 20yr old for 5-6games at a time unless he has a rough night playing the backup every 6or7 games, the tail end of double-headers and following a bad loss. How would you go about it if these were the only goalies?

Unless they are the Hasek regen...too young. Need a veteran or their development could be stunted. Too many games too soon, leads to injury and then to not developing as much. As I just noted in another thread would not play a goalie more than 55 games, and at this age...41 is too many.

Ok thanks guys. Good advice. I'll look to make a move to bring in a new goalie to lighten the load.

There's a tactics file just named "Offensive Best" in the downloads forum. I started a new game with the Devils. My 4th line is currently all in the + column and is chipping in occasionally. I've never been able to have a 4th line that didn't suck and wasn't consistently deep in the - column until I tried this tactic.

What kind of scores are you getting? What's the defense like? I'm using a tactic right now that seems to bleed too many goals and my powerplay is the worst in the league.

Have anyone managed to be successful with a defensive tactic in NHL EA? Any tips for this? Since NHL EHM 2007 was all about offense I would like to have a goalie win an award for a change.

Would be cool to be a defensive team actually :P I might try to turn my Calgary team im playing with right now into that, right now im on 1 offensive line with 3 normal, might work my roster in such a way that i can turn those 3 bottom lines into defensive lines, thanks for the idea ;)

Edit: Actually you made me curious if a defensive style can work in EHM:EA so i will restart a career with CBJ now, the team seems suited for it :)

I can't really figure out if I should go man mark or zonal when playing ES. Or rather I'm having a difficult time figuring out when the benefits of either setup would contribute towards hindering the opponent in creating high quality chances. Any thoughts on this? I specifically want to keep skilled teams from see-sawing their way from the red line to my goal. I sometimes see the deliver 2-3 quick passes that ends in a high quality chance off to one side of my goal, forcing my goalie into a lateral movement and low percentage save attempt. Hope that makes sense. :)

Always use Zone myself. Switch to man very rarely. Man leaves too much open to mistake to me.

Keep us posted. I'm curious about this also.

In fact, I might try the same, since I'm always going full offense.
But finishing the season with 5 guys in my team with over 100 points (including a defenseman) is a bit too much.

I lost like every game and took a million penalties and gave up, i don't have the knowledge to set up a working defensive tactic :D

It's still early in my season, but I'm having a good run with the good old Slapshot tactic with the Habs. It's not perfect, but I think it's a good starting point.

I guess a puck possession game would be suited for this. Try and get a team with passers and great defensive stats. Set passing to low and speed also. Backcheck hard and use a neutral zone trap. In the offensive zone get strong and quick players to crash the net.

I'm horrible. Fleury has 4 goals a game against and 5.74 Avg rating. I can barely stay in play-off race cause I'm giving up so many goals. I set my line tactics to their strengts but it doesn't help :(

Same here. I used Slapshot tactic and had 16 winning streak record with Ak Bars Kazan. Now I'm trying to create new formation because it was to easy to play.
