Running Eastside Hockey Manager 1 on a Mac

Post by archibalduk »

I've seen a few requests for details on how to run Eastside Hockey Manager 1 on Mac OS X and so I thought it an idea to put everything into one thread.

I understand that some users have had success in running the game on the Mac. However, you'll have to appreciate that it is entirely at your own risk if you decide to purchase the game and try to run it on the Mac - you might not get it to work and you'll end up wasting you money. With that said, I have heard of various possible solutions:

WINE
- Guide with pre-built environment: http://www.ehmtheblueline.com/forums/vi ... 78#p183678
- Alternative, more modern pre-built environment (use the guide from the link above): http://www.ehmtheblueline.com/forums/vi ... 26#p184926

OTHER SOLUTIONS
- Play on Mac: https://www.playonmac.com/en/download.html (I've heard a few users have been successful with this software)
- Parallels: http://www.parallels.com/uk/products/desktop/
- CrossOver: https://www.codeweavers.com/products/crossover-mac/
- VirtualBox (run Windows on a virtual machine within a OS X): https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads
- Bootcamp (dual boot on your Mac so that you can have a Windows installation alongside your OS X installation): http://www.macworld.co.uk/how-to/mac/ho ... c-3497251/

EHM:EA Graphics trouble on Mac

Post by Mufred »

Hey, managed to get the game going on Mac via CrossOver (thanks for the topic that linked to that archibalduk!) and have managed to get the TBL rosters working, but can't get any graphic to work. I put the roster in: Library/Application Support/CrossOver/Bottles/Steam/drive_c/Program files/Steam/SteamApps/common/Eastside Hockey Manager/data/database and since that worked I put the graphics in the same place (but of course data/pictures and various under maps instead), but neither facepack, logos or backgrounds work. Anybody have a solution? Should they go some place else? I put them there since it worked for the rosters and in EHM07 they went in the same place, has that changed?

Just to confirm - you put, for example, the NHL team logos in: Library/Application Support/CrossOver/Bottles/Steam/drive_c/Program files/Steam/SteamApps/common/Eastside Hockey Manager/data/pictures/clubs/National Hockey League/ ?

And player pictures in Library/Application Support/CrossOver/Bottles/Steam/drive_c/Program files/Steam/SteamApps/common/Eastside Hockey Manager/data/pictures/players/ ?

And you're using PNG images? (EHM doesn't work with JPGs at the moment)

There's nothing in preferences I should tick/untick? Have checked but maybe missed it.

No, I'm afraid not. They should just work.

Haha, woops, after a while I noticed that some players had pictures...turned out I had just downloaded the 2014-15 Update for the Mug megapack, forgetting the others in 2013-14. So, now that works! Backgrounds however don't but thats a small thing.

It's so easy to overlook things like that! :D

I'm merging this thread with the other Mac thread so users can see that it's possible to get the game up and running using Crossover.

Has anybody managed to get the game to remember preferences yet? I change the auto save and full screen settings and then when I quit the game and start it back up, they change back.

It almost sounds like the game does not have write access to save the preferences file.

I think it might be Wine and the preference file not liking each other because I've used a few of the other free wine packages to install EHM:EA and none of them seem to like saving the preferences file. I even moved the install location of EHM to see if that was causing an issue, didn't work sadly. I was thinking of manually changing the preferences file to reflect the changes I want but I haven't got a clue where it is.

Unbelievable. I just ordered a mac cause it's easier for development (my work) and got rid of my windows laptop. Crying now :'(

I hope we can get it to work including multiplayer, seems like this is exactly the boost the comunnnity needed. I'll try running it on mac when I get it and post my findings.

Well, it should work but there may be a few small niggles. I personally don't mind that at the moment until they bring out a Mac version which I hope Miles and the SI team are considering if all goes well!

In EHM 2007 there was a 'prefs' folder in the installation folder which contained the game settings. However, I cannot see such a file for EHM:EA (neither in the installation folder nor the My Documents folder). I wonder if the settings are now stored in the registry?... :-?

I've now decided to use a virtual machine to play EHM in, it seemed a bit easier plus I had an available copy of Windows from my broken desktop! Installing it at the moment so I'll tell people if it works!

I also tried this...can't seem to get to the database folder using wine...might not be possible

You can access it through steam but it doesn't let you paste the roster file into it

The only way is to be able to get write access to your /database/ folder. It is the only place you can install rosters.

Welcome back! :)

There's no official release on the Mac, but several users have been successful running the Windows version on the Mac: http://www.ehmtheblueline.com/forums/vi ... 17&t=13644
