9th in conference, can't get the team going and Fluery is failing. Lost like 7 OT games already. Quite often we're behind in 1st and 2nd.. not going well.
I'm finding out that what worked very well for me in EHM07 is not working very good at all in EHM EA. That includes my tactics, my lineup and pretty much my whole judging of player talent. Right now I am flat out terrible. Went from middle of the playoff picture in the west to 8th place with 12 straight losses and nothing I do, including letting the coach do all the tactics, lines and game stuff is working. Most of the team has really bad stats and ratings so I'm going for McDavid. Maybe getting him will make me feel better
I have the same problem haha. Although I didn't trade the first season and let Dupuis en Maatta stay on LTIR to make it like real life. I secured the last playoff spot but got trashed by the Rangers 4-1. Currently in June and my AHL team (Wilkes Barre) is in the finals so I have good hopes for next year ;)

I've never experienced such difficult choices in EHM 2007. Kapanen had a great playoff for Wilkes Barre and is generating loads of interest. I've got the following offers:

Colorado: Landeskog (+Archibald and Ruopp from Pens)
Winnipeg: Rackell + Tlustly
Nashville: Forsberg (+Archibald and Ruopp)

I think in real life the Winnipeg trade would make the most sense. Landeskog is a proven player (but with loads of salary), Forsberg is also a great one...

:help:

edit - Decided to trade with the Jets cause even though Colorado is rebuilding it seems stupid that they'd give up Landeskog for a 4 year younger (high end) prospect. Nashville made it to the playoffs and are never going to do a trade like that. Realism ftw ;)

I've just started my first save on this; it's also the first time I've ever done anything to do with hockey.

I should point out: I'm from Scotland, where hockey is pretty much non-existent. I've never watched or played in a game of hockey. The only sport I follow is football (I support Celtic, if there's any fellow football fans on here). I'm a big fan of SI's Football Manager series, which is why I bought this. It seems pretty fun, and hockey looks like a good game.

Anyway, I have no idea what I'm doing. I'm the manager of Winnipeg Jets (never heard of Winnipeg, but it sounds Canadian so I guess I'm in Canada) and I can guarantee that they're about to have the worst season in the history of hockey.

Despite being entirely clueless about what I'm doing, I've managed to win my first 2 games! :joy: I beat Washington Capitals 6-0 in my first match, and came back from 0-2 down to win 4-2 against... eh, I'm not sure. Their badge is an angry dog. So whoever that is. I'm guessing these are good results. Just exhibition games though, haven't
reached the start of the season yet.

It turned out I completely miscalculated the salary and I had to revert back lol. I've undone the Kapanen trade and tried to get rid of salary:

Spaling to Islanders for Casey Cizikas
Kunitz + 2nd to Ducks for Ryan Kesler (I guess they needed to offload some salary too lol)
Dupuis to Kings for 2nd round pick (late)
Scuderi to Blues for 4th round pick
Zlobin + 6th round pick to Coyotos for Vitale (YEAH!)
Rights to Maxim Lazarev (just drafted) to Wild for Jason Zucker

Team for next season:

Perron - Crosby - Hornqvist
Bennett - Kesler - Malkin
Comeau - Sutter - Zucker
Winnik - Cizikas - Vitale

Megna/Sundqvist/Kapanen/Rust as reserve

Maatta - Letang
Ehrhoff - Pouillot
Dumoulin - Lovejoy
Chorney/Harrington as reserve

Fleury - Zatkoff

Should bring a cup!

Another (silly) question: Is there a way that I can set my AI coaches do all the contracts and what not? I prefer just doing the tactics, watching the games and looking at the stats.

Also, I've been letting some spare players go on waivers and teams have taken most of them but my salary has gone up (from about 40m to 42m now) or at least I think it's gone up. http://imgur.com/HZEOE7i that is my finance screen, am I being silly or was a right. If I was right why has it gone up as opposed to down?

Beat Tampa Bay Lightning 5-4, then lost 6-5 to LA Kings to wrap up the exhibition games. NHL starts with an away game against Arizona Coyotes.

I signed Martin St. Louis from Rangers; traded for Drew Stafford and a 2nd round draft pick. I don't even know what a draft pick is, but St. Louis has been my best player in the 2 games he's played, while Stafford was pretty poor for me. My coach said it was a terrible deal, but whatever. I'm a terrible hockey manager, so it fits.

I'd just like to apologise to any Jets fans here for murdering your team.

This draft I had the 2nd overall draft pick and the 14th overall draft pick (Blackhawk's draft pick). I drafted both Noah Hanifin and Oliver Kylington. However, I'm not sure if I should give them quality minutes with the Coyotes or let them play in the juniors. What would be the best option?

I know that in EHM 07, some young players benefit more from playing with the big club.

Prospects develop slower in EHM:EA then they did in 07 from what i have seen, so i would not let have them in the NHL right away... And their attributes have not been altered to counteract that yet either so yeah, leave them in juniors :P

I am enjoying the game! I used the 7.3 rosters as Phoenix and I made one trade...moving Doan and Erat + a couple picks for Couture from SJ. Doan was doing well for me, but I felt a younger player would be better as the team is rebuilidng. Actually its funny because all the players moved in the deals have had a similar impact and none of them is over a 7.00 AvR. My Yotes though are 5th in the standings and we are almost at the January 1st mid-season rankings for the draft.

I am contemplating starting over with the main database for the game however and seeing how that works.

Off season acquisitions:

Acquired Jon Merrill and Damon Severson from the Devils in exchange for Brendan Burke, 2016 2nd round pick, and Kyle Chipchura (Was kind of surprised that went through)

Acquired Jonathan Huberdeau, Nick Bjugstad, and Dmitry Kulikov from the Panthers in exchange for Lauri Korpikoski, Sam Gagner, 1st round pick of 2016 (New York Rangers), and a 2016 3rd round pick. (Doubt this deal would go through in real life, but both sides deemed it fair lol)

Signed Justin Williams as a UFA to a 5 year contract (Had 36 goals for the Kings).

I think the Airzona Coyotes can be a playoff team this season. Acquired both Scrivens and Kuemper at the start of my tenure, Scrivens was the Starter, however midway through he started to struggle and Kuemper took over from there. The last 8 or so games of the season, Kuemper really stood on his head (Even against playoff teams). The guy was playing like a Vezina Trophy Candidate. If he can continue to play like that on a consistent basis next season, we might be able to sneak in.

which tactics do you use?
I´m into my first season with the Coyotes and after around 40 games i´m still tinkering around with a fitting tactic.
Team ranked 25th in the league, Boedker leads the league in scoring with 63 points and every goalie not named Rask, Quick or Price totally sucks (my top 3 right now are Dubnyk, Talbot and Gibson)
Playing right now with:

Boedker - Arcobello - Gagner (all guys from this line are in the top 35 in scoring)
Saad - Hanzal - Doan (close to no scoring from this line despite same offensive tactics as line #1)
Korpikoski - Vitale - Beagle (normal tactics - no scoring)
Bickell - Cizikas - Bollig (conservative normal tactic - no scoring)

OEL - Stone
Bartkowski - Gormley
Moore - Klein
(Bartley)

Dubnyk - Talbot

PP is ok - PK sucks big time

Intended to semi-tank anyway but i´m just wondering if i´m too dumb to create a proper tactic or is it just the massive game engine flaws (4GA in 1 minute, happened a few times, useless goalies, no star player in the top 10 in scoring, etc...) :dunno:

When I just started my tenure, I didn't really tinker with the tactics (laziness and because I wanted Noah Hanifin, lol). Honestly, in the 1st year the Coyotes are supposed to suck. I would just tank and try and get McEichel, but that's just me.

But right now, in my 2nd year as GM I'm having the team play an offensive minded game.

Currently sitting 1st in the Western Conference! :joy:

So i have started a game with Maple Leaf.
And Phil Kessel are on fire. I think the game need some twiks here and there so the scoring is not that high.

Its weird that we've seen multiple Toronto games with those numbers, but in my games I've never seen a guy over 120 points by the end of the year. I've seen guys at 2ppg until about 20 games in and then things normalize which I like.

Signing John Gibson on an offer sheet with just a 1st and a 3rd as compensation is the steal of the century. Really liking the balance between speed and toughness in my squad.
Signing Gibson and Radulov turned my awful Sabres into Stanley Cup champions.
