We're almost out of the playoffs, so maybe Canada will have Crosby? That would be sweet to watch.jhcjobpb wrote:SWE vs. CAN sounds very interesting!!

I don't think Pens will let Crosby go (even if he wants), but I think that Canadian roster may look much better than during Olympic year

Anže Kopitar has more or less decided to play for Slovenia in Ostrava, it should be official tomorow morning. I'll be there for the games Denmark-Belarus, Slovenia-Slovakia, USA-Belarus, Finland-Slovenia and Slovenia-Norway. I'm a bit disappointed not to see Russia, though. But it will be a great expirience, as it's also my first WC

Re: The IIHF World Championships 2015
Finland also managed to land a few NHL players (it isn't so common for us to land more than three): Aleksander Barkov and Jussi Jokinen from the Panthers, Leo Komarov from Maple Leafs, Rasmus Ristolainen from Sabres and Jyrki Jokipakka from Stars. Still looking for that NHL goalie though which could in theory be any of the following three: Tuukka Rask from Bruins, Kari Lehtonen from Stars or Antti Niemi from Sharks. Rask would presumably be awesome but I assume he won't come since not making the playoffs with Bruins was probably a huge letdown for him. After him I'd personally choose Niemi since Lehtonen's level of play varies too much and he has already seen several WCs while Niemi has only three international games.
Either way I'll be waiting anxiously for the event since we have a great team for our standards now.
Which of course means nothing as last WC showed...

Gutted that Kim Hirschovits isn't in the Finland squad...did he retire from internationals? Glad to see Huhtala there though, he was always one of my favourite Blues players.

Yeah, just thought with him having the kind of year he did he might have been in with a shot of making the squad.jhcjobpb wrote:He has never played for Finland in World Championships. Kind of fits in this thread, GB are 2 games from promotion from Div 1B. This was the GWG (in regulation): https://instagram.com/p/1jIFHSLEYJ/ Crazy time to try that at 2-2 against the tournament favourites!

Finland might not get a NHL goalie this year.
Niemi, Rask and Lehtonen said no.

Re: The IIHF World Championships 2015
I'd say he isn't physical enough or that he's too inconsistent to be in the team. Either way I think he had a shot but this year just wasn't the time when Finland would've been short of centers. And I wouldn't say Huhtala will surely be there this year (again) either but we'll see. Possible Liiga players to make the team would be Joonas Donskoi, Joonas Kemppainen and Lasse Kukkonen from Kärpät and Olli Palola from Tappara.MontySteelers wrote:Yeah, just thought with him having the kind of year he did he might have been in with a shot of making the squad.jhcjobpb wrote:He has never played for Finland in World Championships. We also got Tuomo Ruutu from NJD but like CJ said; don't think we'll have an NHL goalie this year. Our goalies will probably be Juuse Saros from HPK, Liiga (Predators draftee, the WJC 2014 hero), Atte Engren from Atlant Mytishchi, KHL and probably Mikko Koskinen from SKA St. Petersburg, KHL who has had a big season (and is also tall in length

GB missed out on promotion, they lost a bit surprisingly to Lithuania. South-Korea finished first.
The Netherlands relegated, which is probably the best thing what could happen for us. One step back, before making two steps forward.

Re: The IIHF World Championships 2015
Our problem was goalscoring by the sounds of things, plenty of shots not many of them quality goalscoring opportunities though. I think we missed Clarke (injured) and other players such as Dowd, Shields & Lachowicz didn't really step up. Still, silver is better than we expected going in and with a new coach hopefully we can push for gold next year. Not sure who is dropping down yet from 1A, but we performed well against Poland before the tournament so I'm hoping its them.Satyr wrote:GB missed out on promotion, they lost a bit surprisingly to Lithuania.
