Re: The IIHF World Championships 2015
Just watched IIFH U18 Final. USA won Finland 2-1 on OT. USA deserved their win, no question about it. Still sad to see Finland lose a final.
What's up with Canada getting such a awesome team in a WC this year?

Auston Matthews looks like a beast, broke the record in points for the development team this season which Kane had before him... 20 points more then Eichel last year and same type of player, a lock for #1 next years draft unless Puljujärvi has a crazy season next year

Re: The IIHF World Championships 2015
Only one day remaining! Finland got Pekka Rinne so I'm having positive thoughts about tomorrow's game against the USA.

He might well have but I doubt he would still be drafted before Matthews. I assume Puljujärvi will post around 20 to 50 points in Kärpät next season (without injuries ofc), depending much on his role in the team. Most likely he will post more than enough points for a top 15 pick but top 5 is another thing. Just hoping that he could be our next ''Barkov'' in terms of great development.Peter_Doherty wrote:Auston Matthews looks like a beast, broke the record in points for the development team this season which Kane had before him... 20 points more then Eichel last year and same type of player, a lock for #1 next years draft unless Puljujärvi has a crazy season next year

Sweden has an interesting team but i don't think we will be in the finals, Canada look super strong on paper except for in goal.

I think Sweden will make it to the finals. In the group stage they will end second, then pass through QF over USA or Slovakia most probably, then SF with Russians - that is even match up, and then to finals with Canada.
So far in Czech the odds stay:
Russia - between 3 and 3,4
Canada - 3,6 - 3,7
Sweden - 5,5 - 5,7
Czech Rep - 5,5, - 5,7
Finland - 7,5 - 8,0

I just don't have any faith in this Swedish team, i like it because we have alot of youth but don't think we will make it all the way..

Re: The IIHF World Championships 2015
Drat..I forgot that the St. Louis Blues...in an effort to prove that they are good at something entered the World Championship. However...Kevin Shattenkirk, Peter Stastny and David BAckes refused to play for the Blues thinking they would do better with Team USA.
The Blues then played the Americans in the first round and it was a 12-12 final. Not one St Louis player scored in the game, nor made a save. The Chicago Wolves sent their third string goalie up to the Blues along with Tie Rattie and Adam Cracknell. THey were the only players on the Blues roster to get points.
The shootout went 226 rounds, and everyone except Blues players scored. Because of repetition being allowed Cracknell and Rattie took all the shots.
ut
The game was called because the shooutout caused the ice to melt and no fans were left in the building, except for one lone guy who kept yelling...Why are the Blues playing the Blues????

Really? I didn't think so looking at the lineup...only a couple/few forwards would be part of an Olympic or World Cup teamjhcjobpb wrote:What's up with Canada getting such a awesome team in a WC this year?

That team is a lot better (on paper) than what Canada usually send to the Worldsnino33 wrote:Really? I didn't think so looking at the lineup...only a couple/few forwards would be part of an Olympic or World Cup teamjhcjobpb wrote:What's up with Canada getting such a awesome team in a WC this year?

Re: The IIHF World Championships 2015
Noone is going to be able to get the ridiculous forwards the puck. THe team on the back end is not that strong. Look like the Oilers.
By the way North Korea beats Jamaica in the finals 100000000-0. Kim Jong Un had all the goals of course.

Canada sure seems unbalanced on the back end, not a single defensively SOLID guy... From what's written above, who has been added if anyone?

I'm watching the Latvia-Canada game on TSN, and announcer Gord Miller agrees with you Manimal (though he did qualify his better than usual/maybe best ever with "at least for the forwards")nino33 wrote:The teams from 2013 http://www.hockeycanada.ca/en-ca/Team-C ... osters/CAN and 2012 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2012_IIHF_ ... ers#Canada look as good/better to me (especially on D)Manimal wrote:That team is a lot better (on paper) than what Canada usually send to the Worlds

Finland quite weak.
But the Scandinavian teams start often a little weak the tournaments.

Finnish defense were really slow, soft and out positioned at times.. they can only improve.

Re: The IIHF World Championships 2015
Well it was a game of short margins. E.g. the USA scored twice with hitting the post and Rinne let two goals in between his body and arm which is unacceptable at this level. Then Finland wasn't eager to shoot or just shot straight at the goalie as usual. If the score would've been according to puck possesion, I'd say the game would've ended more like 2-2 but ofc that's not how the game works and the States truly deserved the win.
If we lose to Denmark on Sunday that's another thing.

Germany beat France. The only positive is the victory. Much room for improvement. Edrass very well today. France has very fast and aggressive lines. Fortunately victory!
