Good lord...in my sim the Stanley Cup Champions?

Florida Panthers. LOL> Runner up Minnesota WIld.

Panthers playoff rounds

1. Beat Tampa
2. Beat Boston
3. Beat...get this...TORONTO

THen beat the Wild to win the cup.

Wild beat Hawks, Blues, Sharks

Guess we should not use this save to play Panthers in the next challenge, or the Wild. THAT IS TOO DARN FUNNY.

Before I answer.

Packaged Sedins on June 7....offer to all. 16 offers back, and negotiations have allowed me to get 1st rounders from any team in the league. I cannot get Buffalo and ARizona first round picks, but I got Isles first rounder from Buffalo for them.

WHat is interesting...they refused a trade to Buffalo after being disciplined and being ready to move on. STill used NTC for Buffalo. However...they did not for Toronto.

I also put Chris Higgins in the Toronto deal and got the Leafs two first rounders (Theirs and Nashville for them). Leafs finished 8th in east, and have the 15th pick having finished 15th overall. Nashville finished 13th and have 17th overall pick. Decent value, not outrageous. Leafs would likely have to make cap moves, but Buffalo would not.

BTW--it is interesting that Henrik would waive for Buffalo after discipline, but Daniel would not. When I try Arizona Daniel will not waive, Henrik will. LOL

Coyotes will give up Chicago or San Jose 1st and their own 2nd for the twins.

NONE OF THESE TEAMS WILL GIVE UP THEIR STAR PROSPECTS (SIGNED) for the twins.

\
Transactions for Minnesota: Nothing of note, in November they traded Prosser to Chicago for rights to Schmaltz a 3rd, and a 4th
Transactions for Florida: Signed Matt Lombardi (as playoffs ending, never played), Matt D'Agostini in May as UFA...played 9 playoff games. ONly trade was to dump Shane O'Brien for picks.

Stat leaders on teams:

MInn-Vanek 75 points, Koivu 62, Parise 59, GOalie: Backstrom 41 games 2.19 Kuemper 38 games 2.38 avg rating leader Vanek 7.30
Playoffs: Kuemper as starter as Backstrom sucked. 17 games 1.69 avg. Parise 24 points, Vanek 21, Koivu 17. Kuemper 7.71 avg rating led way.

Florida-Jokkinen 60, Boyes 58, Bjugstad 51. Goalie: Luongo 47 games 2.40 Montoya 28 games 2.53 avg rating leader Luongo 7.15. Wow. Terrible.
Playoffs-Boyes 20, Jokkinen 17, Barkov 15. Goalie: Luongo 19 games, 2.07. Montoya 6 games 1.62 avg rating leader- Luongo 7.37

Interesting that Florida and Minnesota did so well with minimal moves (if anything). They do have decent teams but taking away their vets kill them.

So the Sedins are a bit difficult to move? That's good I guess. When you disciplined them did you just give them a warning or did you fine them? I threw out some fines when I was testing the Panthers and it really upset the other players.

For Miller--best pick is a 2nd rounder. Can get Kevin Hayes from Rangers, and a few other decent prospects, but not the studs. I am good with that.

Burrows-3rd and 4th rounders, guys like Slater Koekkeoek from Tampa, Josh Nicholls from Rangers. Not a ton for Alex.
Bieksa-basically top end is same as Alex in trades.
Jannik Hansen the same thing. He brings back two third rounders at best. Will not give up a 2nd for him. Nobody will.

So really, not alot of value in the Canucks outside of the twins that I have left. Edler and Hammer would have brought more I am sure, as would have Vrbata.

But I can see that this team will be full on youth with alot of holes to fill, in particular on the blueline.

I went into a trade window and put in the twins and did "Offer to All". I got NO INTEREST!

EDIT: It seems that doing an offer to all on one, then adding the other Sedin, and negotiating from there works better. I know that the Capitals really want them. I've been able to add most of their younger prospects to a deal and still have them interested. I've got the Sedins offered for Tom Wilson, Liam O'Brien, Connor Carrick, Kuznetsov, Burakovsky, Schmidt, and a 3rd. My AGM doesn't like it but that would certainly stock the team. Too bad the Caps don't have a 1st or 2nd in the draft. I could add that.

Nucks with the lower age on the force trade looks interesting, unless the twins gives back too many assets... i like that we have 2 good young goalies with Nucks without having a stud, both Läck and Markström can probably do the job but they are no Kuemper :P

Twins can get a bit from some teams. I went with the two first rounders Toronto had for them and Higgins. Not something I would do in the challenge. I had lots of interest in them as well.

BIeksa and Burrows bring back not much. Hansen too.

But here is what I got.

Sedin Sedin Higgins for Toronto 1st, Nashville 1st
Bieksa for Slater Koekkoek Tampa
Burrows for Anders Lee
Hansen for Cedric Paquette
Miller for Dmitrij Jaskin

of course from my game cannot tell what Edler, Hammer, Matthias and Vrbata wojld bring in. Because they were already moved.

But my roster will look like this:

Conacher-Bonino-Jaskin
Baertshi-Pacquette-Read
Lee-Vey-Kassian
McMillan-Horvat-Jensen

Koekkoek-Tanev
Sbisa-Weber
Clendenning-Haakenpaa
Statnon-Corrado

*hakanpaa came from Blues in the deal that saw Matthias go. Read came from Flyers in the deal for Edler.

My draft picks:

13th
16th
18th
----
43
53
57
---
103
107
----
133
139
149
----
163

7th is gone, 3rd is gone. Those are deals made prior to the game start. 12 picks though. Should get someone decent. Heh.

We should be forced to drop Conacher aswell since he's an AHL-player IRL and looks like a beast here (1st-liner who can score at a PPG pace) :P I kind of like Nucks for this but maybe we just get too much back from trades? :/ I'm not sure.

I had some really nice deals lined up for the Sedins and then one wouldn't want to go and they'd veto the trade. I just gave them both fines. We'll try those deals again. I did make 2 deals though. Sent Edler to the Avs for Siemens and Hansen to the Wild for Zucker.

Still working at it.

YOu got Zucker for Hansen? Holy sheesh. Not even close to that for me. Wild called it horrible deal 3x.

I just disciplined/fined em all 4 times each, and they would go anywhere, except one Sedin would not go to Buffalo and one would not go to Arizona. LOL

Did you try Severson for Edler?

Lots of value for all the guys all over the league. Noone is not interested in taking on the salaries. I had an offer for the twins from Chicago and it was all picks and prospects.

As for Conacher--we should be forced to waive that guy

I don't think we know.

So I noticed after I did the draft in my sim, that the Canucks had fired Willlie D on Mar 21, and brought in some useless dude. Oh well, will have to live with him to start the season.

I am going to play this one out for a bit, as it really seems fun. Not my challenge team but I am into it.

Sorry. Don't have my save with me. It's at work. I'm also not going to be in work tomorrow. I've got a thing at my boys' school tomorrow, so I took the day off.

I'd say we're currently looking at Wild, Panthers, and Canucks. Was there another one? I thought about doing the Red Wings but even with our dealing all of the 30 plus veterans, they might be a bit much. I believe I had different saves for each one. Ideally, they should NOT be a playoff team but they also shouldn't be a lottery team (top 3 pick... lottery actually works a bit different now). I've used different saves because sometimes a team might overachieve or make some big deals.

Manimal, not sure when we'd start. We had contemplated ending the current challenge early (participating has really fallen off) but not sure how early. Are we looking at another roster update that I should wait for to coincide with the challenge?

Before season even starts in this CAnucks save...Toronto trades Higgins to Anaheim for a 2nd and a 4th. Yeah, they have some cap issues.

BTW...I never got to deal Vrbata, Hamhuis, Edler....but if we use Vancouver be careful with your deals. Now mind you I am not coaching this team just managing it. But this lineup:

Conacher-Bonino-Jensen
Baertschi-French guy from Tampa-Read
McMillan-Lee-Kassian
Sestito-Vey-Pacwhateverfrom Boston

Terrible D-Tanev
SPIZZA-Weber
Terrible D-CLendenning

Lack
MArkstrom

is off to a bang up 0-10-3 start! :-D

I don't think we need to wait for a new database for this challenge tbh, it's all about building from within anyway, start it asap instead ;)

Yeah but if a new database is coming out shortly, would rather have it. Will be even more accurate. Something for archi, B72 and Manimal to decide not us plebes.

Re: Challenge Questions & Feedback Thread

So I've made all the deals I could with Vancouver. I even managed to trade the Sedins together after fining them enough. I've got a couple of my remaining players unhappy because the way I treated people but they're gone.

So here were the deals I managed...

Edler to Avs for Siemens
Hansen to Wild for Zucker
Burrows to Caps for O'Brien and Wilson
Higgins to Lightning for Namestnikov
Sedin Sisters to Canadiens for Bournival, de la Rose, McCarron, and Tinordi
Hamuis and Vrbata to Sabres for Girgensons, Grigorenko, Larsson, and 2nd round pick
Miller to Oilers for 1st round pick plus Penguins 1st round pick.
Bieksa to Rangers for J.T. Miller and K. Hayes

So I was able to acquire quite a lot of assets for my vets. I wouldn't say any are superstars and both my fans and board hate me. I've got a 3 1sts and 2 2nds in the upcoming draft, the best being 10th overall. I've got my NHL roster filled out and have a bunch of guys in my minor league affiliate.

Lines looking like...

Conacher - Miller - Namestnikov
Zucker - Bonino - Jensen
Bartschi - Girgensons - Vey
Bournival - O'Brien - Kassian

Sbisa - Weber
Siemens - Tanev
Tinodri - Stanton

Lack - Markstrom

In the minors I've got... Clendening, Sanguinetti, Larsson, de la Rose, Shinkaruk, Horvat, Grigorenko, Hayes, McCarron, and Wilson (among other lesser players).

Is this too much? I know if was a bit of a pain trading those guys. There was a lot of throwing things against the wall and seeing what stuck.

Wow. Much better than me especially with Ryan Miller. And could get was a 2nd round for him. Of course I did not have hammer Vrbata or Edler to deal and that hurt a ton. That being said team looks like it will struggle a bit especially on the back end. Weber Spizza and Tanev do not perform well from what I have seen in top 4 roles.

Not having Bonino on top line will help a ton if Miller can handle it. Jensen is very inconsistent from what I have seen early on and in flyer challenge he did not play well til year 4. Vey and KassiAn suck.

This is a definite tough challenge. Markstrom and Lack do okay but my team is giving up a ton of shots and chances. Of course I am not coaching and may be different if I was.
