Hey guys new to the challenges hopefully you can help me with 1 question that was unclear in the rules...

I understand year 1 you had to trade all the guys before the draft, but in year 2 and beyond is there a window where trades need to be made or can they be made at any point during the season/offseason? Thanks, liking this challenge and my team so far.

You can trade anytime, the restrictions are mainly around the age of the players involved in the trades.

Hey, I'm 13th now! My team is actually almost running at a .500 right now.

Scheifeles' injury seems unimportant and one of the tricks seems to be me upping the shooting frequency for all players. Suddenly the PP and PK started working, giveaways going down, penalties down, shots up and shooting percentage is up. Maybe the lack of shooting made my players do forced plays leading to bad situations? I want to think this was the problem and not Scheifele as it would be a major step forward tactically.

To keep this interesting to play i've decided to slowly trade away every player i have that wasn't drafted by Canucks, in 2-3 years i will hopefully have a team of only drafted players, should be a fun extra challenge :)

LOL. Great move Peter.

Round 3 is St Louis. Took em down in 4 games. Markstrom playing well. But the man of the series was Jensen 5-3-8 in the four games.

Thanks :) Gotta try and keep it interesting. Was going to do the same with Philly but the development bug (or whatever that was) wasn't fixed so couldn't.

Heh. That is funny Vis.

Stanley Cup Final. Tampa comes in having swept all 3 of their previous series. Slamming the Flyers, Sabres and Capitals. Canucks have lost 3 games.

Lightning have a RIDICULOUS lineup led by Bishop, Hedman, Johnson, Stamkos and Palat.

Vancouver 4 Tampa 3 (Jensen Bartschi, Tommerenes, Eriksson Ek) (TB: Mullin Kucherov Palat). Tampa scores 2 times in last min. Luckily Eriksson Ek can hit an empty net, and had made it 4-2 seconds before Tampa scored to make it 4-3. Otherwise...

Vancouver 3 Tampa 1 (Jensen, Virtanen, Stanton) TB: Johnson. Never a game in doubt. Tampa scored 5 min into third on their 12th shot of game. Ended game with 14.

Vancouver 2 Tampa 0. Eriksson Ek (EN) and Nelson. This game was back and forth all night. Bishop made 33 saves, Markstrom 40 for the shutout.

Vancouver 2 Tampa 1. Eriksson Ek. Morin. Palat for TB to make the ending tough. Tampa outshot Vancouver 19-3 in period 3 trying to come back from 2-0. Markstrom shut them down

CANUCKS win the Cup...again.

Meh... This brings me back to the beginning of the challenge where I had to choose between two trades:
1. THe one I picked, brought in Filip Forsberg and Seth Jones
2. would've brought a whole 1st line to my team - O.Palat, T. Johnson and N.Kucherov.... maybe should've picked this one instead :s

Grigorenko is my first line center at the moment, and surprisingly copes decently with the role. I even think the first line is more consistent now.

Very glad to have season 1 done and over with.Finished 30th, so not many highlights.
Saad, Runblad and Beaulieu were all pretty good, both Marksrom and Lack , well not so much.

I think I got the most enjoyment out of watching the mess in Chicago caused by the Sedin trade. They moved out Richards,Bickell, Keith,Versteeg,Hjalmarsson, and Seabrook. Finished in 1tth (okay still way ahead of me).
Then fired both the coach and GM

On to the draft hopefully we’ll get the #1 pick

So we made it all the way to the Stanley Cup Finals but we lost to the Penguins in 6 games. It was a good run! We beat the Flames, Oilers, and Avalanche on the way to the Finals. One bright note of the whole off-season has been Werenski. He played the final two games of the regular season due to an injury to one of my regulars on the blue line. He played very well in those two games and stuck around throughout the playoffs. He'll be a part of the regular roster next season. Chychrun played 5 games when Stanton went down for a bit but from what I saw of him, he just isn't ready for the NHL yet.

Just getting some of the season awards for the guys in junior. I see that my 2nd round pick in 2016, Josh Anderson, beat out my 1st round pick in 2016, Chychrun, for Canadian Player of the Year and Canadian Defenseman of the Year. My scouts say Anderson is a defensive defenseman with 1-2 potential and compare him to Edler with a bigger frame.

Wow. He has looked horrible in all of my games so far. He is a very good player right now in real life, and will be a solid shut down guy with some offensive upside in some kind of pro league

Merkley has come a long way in my game as well. With Minnesota, and his screen shot looks pretty much exactly the same as what you just showed. I have so many young centres that are 2nd line and below capable. Scheifele, Rakell, Horvat, Petan, Eriksson Ek, Connor, McCann. I really want a #1 guy but am having trouble finding one where the trade value works.

I have everyone over 26 ready to go out now heading to season 4. I cannot bring myself to part with Vey.

Dillon--bringing some good value from other teams.
Morin-Great value
Markstrom-just okay value.
Tanev-pretty much 4 stars from all teams.

Rest of the guys I can move Kenins, Stanton, Tommerenes not so much value.

I will be looking for a top level LD (Trouba on right side, do not need anyone there), and a top level C, as well as a younger goalie to stick in the minors when I dump Markstrom. 19-20 year old kid who can play as my 4th goalie.

My projection for next year looks like this:

Bartschi-Eriksson Ek-Jensen
Nelson-Scheifele-Vey
Shinkaruk-Rakell-Virtanen
Roy-Horvat-Neubauer
Petan,

Muller-Trouba
Tommerenes-Tanev
Pedan-Clendenning
Rasmus Anderssson

Demko
Nedjelkovic

But you will note....there is no traded for guys in that lineup. And it still looks pretty good to me. So we shall see on June 16th or so what I get for some of them, may not move them all. But absolutely for sure Dillon and Markstrom are on their way out. Leaves the rest to stick around maybe.

For my youngster--one of the 5 C above will be going, and it will not be Eriksson Ek.

Team needs are exactly what I am looking for. I Think that is the first time in EHM That this has ever matched. :-D

End of pre season 2019 and my squad is set, i traded Weber to make room for Subban. This is most likely how i will line up to start the season:

Bärtschi-Blugers-Puljujärvi
Kreider-Horvat-Jensen
Shinkaruk-Samuelsson-Virtanen
Blomstrand-McCann-Hartman
Cassels

Samuelsson will alternate between the 2nd and 3rd line while Horvat and McCann will alternate between 2nd-3rd and 4th until someone takes that #2C spot. I'm probably trading atleast one of the players not drafted by Nucks during the season and Marner will be in the lineup when that happens, he starts in Utica though. Other call ups are Barber and Vilkas.

Klefbom-Lindgren
Kylington-Andersson
Reinhart-Subban

Orban, Tryamkin and Provorov are my call ups here.

Demko-Markström

Probably trading Markström during the season and then McDonald will become my backup for the season.

Edit: I have big hopes for Vilkas (my pick #16 2019), hope he has a good season in Utica, his defensive stats are already really good (15 pokecheck, 17 positioning, 13 bravery, 14 work rate.) add to that his 20 determination and 20 strength.

Aww my 40 Game stats didn't save. Probably my screw up....I know I typed them in. rubbish..

I'm at the 60 game mark, can I just upload 0s for the 40 game and just take a hit on the points and continue?

Draft done, and the Vancouver Canucks have a MAJOR trade to announce

To Buffalo: Zack Kassian, Ronalds Kenins, Jakob Markstrom and Brendan Dillon
To Vancouver: D Noah Hanifin, G Frederick Beaudry.

Yeah the fans loved that one. LOL. I think that is all the wheeling and dealing til after July 1. Still on the market: Stanton, Morin, Tanev and a younger player.

Killing myself laughing at NHL awards.

1. Vezina- BUFFALO SABRES goalie Jakob Markstrom. Runner Up: Vancouver Canucks Thatcher Demko. All because I traded Markey....
2. Jennings: Demko wins.
3. Lady Byng--Bartschi for 2nd straight season, runner up Jensen.
4. Conn Smythe--Winner was Jensen Bartschi in 2nd and Bishop third.

5. NHL 1st All star team
Goalie-Thatcher Demko

6. NHL 2nd All star team

Goalie-Jacob Markstrom.

7 NHL All Rookie team

Goalie-Mackenzie Blackwood Toronto. LOL.....never laughed so hard. Demko is 1st all star goalie, Jennings winner....and does not get all rookie team? Too funny.

Defense-Adam Clendenning (Third in ROY voting...Demko not even in top 3. LOL.

Hey Peter are you giving Samuelsson any special teams time? And how do you set your third line to play in terms of offensive/defensive and whatnot?

I've found Samuelsson to be incredibly fickle and haven't quite dialed him in, though his stats are "solid" mid range across the board, save but for his 19 and 18 faceoff and hitting I think it is.

I got Samuelsson on the PK and last season i had him on normal mentality high backcheck while i had Shinkaruk on normal normal and Virtanen on offensive normal. Had a pretty low forecheck with that line, worked well... Samuelsson wasn't amazing though but he was solid.. Shinkaruk carried that line with over 60 points.

My PK went from atroicious the past 3 seasons to over 86% after i acquired Samuelsson though :)

Edit: It's not like he was amazing for me though, under 40 points and only 6.66 Av R.

Ah cool, thanks.

I forced myself to give him offensive, second line time, and a bit of PP to begin with and he was just awful. So took him off PP and he was a bit better with fewer minutes. Didn't put up many points I don't think (don't have the game open now, and had sent him down to help Utica in the playoffs when I took my stats screen, whoops).

However, started S3 the same way, he had a terrible 6.05 average after a few games. Decided to throw him on the third line and PK instead, and as you mentioned, he played much better. Just interesting to see how everyone plays and develops, and how everyone utilizes players. Thanks!
