Re: Next Challenge?
Yeah, i also like the drafting aspect the most in this. Maybe we should allow the option of trading down for this challenge? but only for other draftpicks, might have to do some testing on that though.

If we have the American challenge, can we please change their AHL affiliate to the Rochester Americans

Re: Next Challenge?
For next challenge I suggest to avoid that rule about hidden attributes.

It was an interesting idea but I'm not sure if I'd want to use that again. Are there any people who really want to use the hidden attributes again?

Re: Next Challenge?
If/when the game has better support of hidden attributes (draft screens, roster screens etc. having the scout reports and sortable), then sure. But in its current state, it's very frustrating to sort through players.bruins72 wrote:It was an interesting idea but I'm not sure if I'd want to use that again. I liked it more than the last couple of ones but I tend to agree, we need Riz to fix a couple of things before it will be a main mode.

Re: Next Challenge?
I agree. It is something that we do "once in awhile", not all the time. I am still wishing I knew what happened with Bo Horvat. He went from being my 2nd best rated player in the first season of the challenge (not including goalies) to my absolute worst through 20 games in season 4. I have no clue why, because I cannot see what happened with him. But he rides the pine for me now with the lineup I have.

Re: Next Challenge?
The mode got so much potential and could quite easily get fixed so that it could be a regular challenge thing.

Re: Next Challenge?
You should write up your ideas for how the hidden attributes mode could be fixed and then post them to Riz. You never know. It could be something he'd work on.
So for the next challenge I think we'll go with the all US born team we had discussed. I'm not sure which team yet. I'd like everyone's feedback on what rules we could include for this one.

Re: Next Challenge?
I have no idea how to do this though, i really like the idea. I like the trading aspect of the challenges that we've had lately, but at the same time it might be way too many trades to make to get an all american roster, maybe you have to set the team up beforehand? I'm not sure.

I am pretty meh about the all US roster myself. But then again, I did not plan on participating in the next challenge anyway.

Well, most stuff is already written on the SI-forum, so it is not like he hasnt heard it. I am pessimistic about it though.bruins72 wrote:You should write up your ideas for how the hidden attributes mode could be fixed and then post them to Riz. You never know. It could be something he'd work on.

Re: Next Challenge?
If we are going with the all-US challenge maybe we can incorporate the fantasy draft? Maybe b72 starts a draft (with prospects) and save after X (10? 15? 20?) rounds then share the save and we continue from there, then we screenshot the draft afterwards to make sure everyone used the save then go from there. Would mean we all have the same core but everyone has a say on where to take their own squad. I think remaking a squad to make it all-US is too much work and using the fantasy draft would make it alot easier for everyone involved.
Edit: If you can save mid fantasy draft? Just got a bit unsure after i wrote this down and can't check right now.
Edit2: If you can't save mid fantasy then i propose b72 takes a team with some decent American prospects and finish the fantasy draft without including prospects in it then we have to trade all our non-US prospects for US-prospects.
Just spitballing ideas here

Re: Next Challenge?
Without opening up the most recent DB-
Some random throughs: Since it looks like from google (don't have the DB open) most NHL teams have less than 10 Americans, I don't think trades (even with limits) is the best way to go. IMO that makes the first two seasons all about your trade ability. Maybe we do like the Winnipeg Jets Challenge and put up polls on Americans to fill out the roster/prospects? (Don't know how much work that was, but I'd rather see a bit more of the old 'run what you have' the first season, and it would hopefully get people interested).
Or- take an early start date with ANY team (realistically, unless it's the Kings with Quick, or the Wild with the two old boys, there aren't many teams with enough impact Americans to matter which one is picked), and we have to do trades with at most 2 parts per side (2 players, 2 picks, pick and player), with limits on picks we can give away. One thing I did like about old challenges was that random PA's would be a part (guys with -9's for example weren't all the same).
Last random thought- clear a team (release them all) then we have to go and sign an American squad from the free agent pool. We may end up with similar teams, but odds are high that no one outside of the super studs could win it all that first year.

Re: Next Challenge?
There's some interesting ideas being tossed out here.
If anyone needs extra time to finish up the Bruins challenge, let me know and I'll extend it. I'm busy this weekend and won't be able to set things up yet. I'm also probably going to be busy the first day or two of the work week, so we probably won't see a new challenge launch until towards the end of the week.

Re: Next Challenge?
I would really like to see a challenge with the default EHM roster, with all the player attributes randomized. Sim till the end of the first season, and then all the rebuild rules apply. That way, nobody can go fishing for young players they know will develop into stars.

Re: Next Challenge?
I did a quick check and as i suspected it's impossible to save in the middle of a fantasy draft, that's a shame since i liked that idea

Re: Next Challenge?
We're just about set for the next challenge. It's going to be the NY Rangers with an All-American team. Manimal is making the DB changes for me and then I'll start a new game and share the save so that everyone will have the same PA on their youngsters. Rules will be very minimal. No more than 2 assets coming in or going out in a trade. No trading in the first season. No UFA signings at all. You can only trade for US born players. You can only draft US born players. That's about it.
