Newgens and Regens question

Post by catcherjul »

Hi guys, I saw at some places in the forum that there was a problem with the draft's talent after the 2016 draft. I also saw somewhere that when regens start to be brought in the game, the draft start to be interesting again. I'd like to know when those one comes? Are there some generated right after the first season so they start to appear in the draft around 2020?

Thanks if you have the answer because with the 2017 draft talent, if it always stay the same, it'll get boring very rapidly

I'm not sure, but could be you've read an old post from days of Early Access, where the game and the database were still being tweaked and tuned. There may be better and worse draft years, but there's plenty of good real players to draft in the earlier years as well.

Regens appear as soon as a player retires to replace the retired player. So you'll see them in the draft quite quickly. I'm not 100% sure, but AFAIK North Americans appear in the game at age 14 and Europeans at 16. So for them to become draft eligible would take a couple of years, or more.

I'm not sure you can believe everything you read! HaHa
I've actually read the exact opposite of what you've read (i.e. some say the early drafts are fine, it's the regens that are a problem; I'm looking into the long range regen talent via some testing right now actually)

Based on 07 my understanding is regens "return" after a player retires (and the time from retirement to regeneration was different between NA/European players). The new EHM doesn't use the same regen system as EHM07 did (I believe it's a combination of the 07 system and FM's newgen system), so I'm not sure if details about functionality have changed.

I've never "regen hunted" before and never looked into things with testing so I don't know the answers to your questions, but I'm sure they're in this 07 thread http://www.ehmtheblueline.com/forums/vi ... gen+search and there's also this thread regarding EHM:EA http://www.ehmtheblueline.com/forums/vi ... ilit=regen (where you'll see a couple people saying they've found regens, but no screenshots to support the claim)

Actually all players under age 23 have a variable PA (Potential Ability), so it doesn't stay the same.

Many players have a PA of -15 (110-190) and -14 (90-160) and such players might be busts, average at best, good/very good, or stars/superstars.
Even top players have variable PAs (like a McDavid/Eichel or Matthews/Chychrun) so they may be "OK" or "good" or "very good" (and for some, like McDavid, superstar potential is there).....most of the know/talented players would have PAs like -10 (170-200), -9 (150-180) and -8 (130-160).

There would aslso be some potential NHLers with a -7 PA (110-140) and a -13 PA (60-130).

ALSO coaching, practice, playing time, on ice success, injuries and more can affect whether a player reaches their potential or not

The 2016 draft is massive with talents. And trading for 1st round picks are quite simple, so I always trade for early picks to get Matthews, a winger and a D-man . In my opinion, none of the draft after that, until the regens appear are worth much

Thanks for all the answers guys and what I can understand is, nobody is sure yet but at least some of your experienced good drafts after the 2016 one so it helps me to continue my game!

I kinda misunderstood your original post, but I'd go with Nino's answer. The drafts aren't overly predictable, since each game you begin will be slightly different. Sure, there are years where the odds of getting better players increase or decrease, but to automatically call certain draft years bad, is not knowing how the game / database works.
