Toronto Maple Leafs Draft 1
Toronto Maple Leafs Draft 2
I drafted this team not really concerned about the first year. I spent some of my higher picks on guys like Pogge, O'Sullivan and Backstrom figuring that I'd be set for the future. I was also very happy with the young defensemen; Campoli, Seabrook and Syvret, that I was able to get later on. Ari Ahonen and Ilya Zuboz look good, and I have a very strong farm team.
Horcoff - Jokinen - Afinogenov
Bell - Zetterberg - Kotalik
McAmmond - Belanger - Hunter
Hagman - Fisher - Donovan
Kaberle - Rozsival
Regehr - Seabrook
Vaanen - Berry
Miller
Belfour
To my surprise, this line up, after 20 games, is in first place with an amazing 15 - 5 - 0 record. I suppose I shouldn't really be all too surprised, but with the talent that I left on the farm team (Vanek, O'Sullivan), I am. That top line has been doing wonders for me offensively, the second line has been pitching in as has Hunter and the Miller/Belfour (mostly Miller) combination has been solid.
As for the farm team, they're very young and skilled. With a 10 - 4 - 1 record, they're tied for second in the AHL. Vanek has been lighting it up and is second in scoring, with Stastny, Penner and O'Sullivan all pitching in as well.
I've really had no reason to try and make changes to this team. Phoenix placed Jagr on waivers, and I was tempted to go after him, but with little cap room and no real spot to put him, I passed. Same with Kasparitis. The only moves that I have made up to this point are just to add some more depth to the Marlies. I added Jillson, Woywitka, Ritchie, Meyer and Orzsagh all through waivers, promptly placed them back on waivers and sent them to the AHL. All have been doing well.
Overall, the entire franchise is in very good shape. I'm under the cap, in first place, my farm team is doing well with a young lineup, Pogge is doing well in the WHL and my foreign players (Ahonen, Zubov, Backstrom) are all doing well. Let me know what you all think. I'm very pleased with the team.

Season 1 is done. Lost Kipper to injury in game 5 of the FINAL. And Forsberg in game 1. Thankfully Morrison had just come back. Anyway, Brent Johnson cost me game 6, so Danny Sabourin who had been practising with the team replaced him and played great. Won game 7 in OT with Danny in net. Goal scorer: MATTHIAS OHLUND. This guy is awesome in the game if you play him 30-35 minutes per game. EVERY SINGLE GAME!
Notes: Kipper scored a goal in the 1st or second game of the season. Cool.
Forsberg sucks in reg season, horse in playoffs. Cheechoo sucks period...TRADE FODDER FOR SURE!
Drury, Mo, unreal,. Seidenberg stepped up in playoffs. Kim Johnsson did not. Regehr was decent. Ohlund amazing.
On to year 2...not now. Now is bed.

Booger gets suspended everytime he laces up his skates for me.joehelmer wrote:Derek Boogaard has recently been banned for 6 games, because of violent behavior. I have no idea what they are talking about.![]()
He had five or six games left on a suspension at the end of the season. For whatever reason he was allowed to play in exhibition games for me (I'm not 100% sure of the rule there, but I don't think that should be allowed), and he'd wind up beating someone up, getting ejected, and having extra games added to his suspension. He was up to 25 games last I checked.

Games 1-20
Major Transactions, Events and other Observations
- Traded Mike Knuble for Ossi Vaananen
- Traded Per Johan Axelsson for Nicklas Havelid
- Called up Boogard who continued to pull us out of a small slump between games 12-15. Much hilarity ensued.
- First line is always producing with Forsberg and Jagr 1st and 2nd overall in the league in points. Cole is around 14th.
- Trading Knuble, allowing me to move Michalek to the second line, was the best move I made offensewise. Michalek had 8 points in 3 games after being moved up.
- Nicklas Havelid is an excellent two way defenseman.
- Leopold is out for 3 months with a fractured shin. (Caused me to trade for Havelid)
- How the hell is Cairns leading my team (and the NHL) in +/-?
- Nabokov started all 20 games in my first set without breaking a sweat...
Current Roster
Cole - Forsberg - Jagr
Smyth - Lundmark - Michalek
Pandolfo - Halpern - Clymer
Boogard - Robataille - Vrbata
Havelid - Martinek
Vaananen - Brewer
Kasparaitis - Cairns
Nabokov - Bryzgalov
Injured Reserve
Jordan Leopold
Bench
Tomas Kloucek
Paul Ranger
Ruslan Fedotenko
AHL Update
Record:
11-3-1 (First in AHL)
Key Players (signed to NHL contract):
Peter Fournier (8-11-19)

It may not look very good right now. But unlike some of you, I didn't neglect prospects, and didn't go way over the cap.
My payroll is under $40 million for now, which gives me some room to make some moves later on in the season as I see fit.
For now, the lines will probably look something like this:
Madden-Morrison-Alfredsson
Schaefer-Conroy-Clymer
Pettinger-Cajanek-Grier
Immonen-Pahlsson-Ouellet
Bouwmeester-Schultz
Vishnevski-Dandenault
Matvichuk-Tanabe
Brodeur

Two things.
1. I drafted a few prospects, and the only one I ended up keeping was Leiland Irving. Don't ask me why. I just did.
2. In the 2007 draft I picked on the advice of this scout I hired, Mike Rooney. He is a 20 in both potential and ability judgement. Not sure about him though. But then I got a trade offer instantly after I drafted one guy in the 4th round. Some Russian I had never seen before. Rooney loved him though. Then I got 5 more offers, including some bonafide players like Derek Morris, and yes, Simon Gagne. I turned them down. I have to see what this guy is like. Sheesh,.

Season 2:
Nice squad, too bad cannot score on pp.
Start with
Modin Forsberg Cheechoo
Ekman Morrison Sullivan
Gaustad Leino Hagman
Hodge Betts Grabovsky
Boogard C Adams
S Niedermeyer J Smith
Ohlund Regehr
Siedenberg Kwiatkowski
Barinka
So I have exactly the same record as last season in 1-20. Exact. PP is a little better, PK is a little better. But not bloody much. Scotty was supposed to help both a ton. So far, only a little.
Kiprusoff
Sabourin
Traded for Scott Niedermeyer who came relatively cheaply. Fedotenko and a 1st round for 2007 (just before draft).
Let Sami Kapanen and Chris Drury go to Free Agency cause I knew I had Leino (signed him in Jan), and Grabovsky could play.
Signed Gaustad cheap, and C Adams even cheaper as replacements. Gaustad is an amazing skater, great pk guy.
On the farm: Pascal Pelletier is lighting it up in Rochester, 14 goals 14 assists in 15 games. Wow! CAlled him up for a few and had 2 assists in 3 games. Pretty good, but when Hagman and Grabovsky came back from injury had to send him back down. Great help he is though!

Well, so far my Senators are 3-0.
A 2-0 win in Toronto, a 3-1 win in the home opener against Toronto, then another shutout for Brodeur with a 3-0 win over Buffalo.
Only 8 goals for. However, only 1 goal allowed in three games. Schaefer had a hat trick in the 3-1 win vs. Toronto. Brodeur has a 0.34 GAA and a 0.989% save percentage.
The PP started off bad, but then improved. It's at 13.3% right now.
The penalty kill is at 100% right now.

I have a dilema now.... For some reason Montreal decided to traded Brodeur and since I had it on my short list I guess they offered it to me ..... After Long negociations I managed to bring it a point where the deal will not put me over of the sallary cap while keeping in line with the trade pick rules. So now the question is should i go for it or not ? Here is the Trade i have to accept or reject
MTL: M. Brodeur ( 5 Mil)
For
OTT: P. Bondra (2.5 Mil) , D. Aebisher ( 1 Mil ), Ottawa 1st Round Pic in 2007, and a Prospect whose name I can not recall.
I know Brodeur + Hasek will be a super Golie 1-2 and with Hasek in big need of a rest ....
So what do you guys think ?
