Local businessmen the Aquilini Brothers have aquired the remaining 50% of the Canucks so they will now have 100% ownership now.
Given that the orca made it's way onto the 'Nucks jerseys due to Orca Bay owning a major share of the team we may be seeing a logo/jersey change for the Canucks in the near future. Between periods of the ANA v VAN game I'm watching on Rogers' Sportsnet (local to Canada for those of you who don't know) they interviewed one of the brothers and asked him straight out if they'd change the jersey now and he kind of smiled knowingly and then said "Well, we're going to consider everything that we should consider changing now that we have full ownership and we'll be considering that and a bunch of other matters to decide what is best for the team." It seemed thought aht what he wasnted to say was "That thing is GONE!! Outta here! His-to-ree!!!"
Aquilini has said that a review of the Canucks jersey will be one of the things management will do. God one can only hope..no more WHALE! Please. I would even take an indian headress over that whale junk, but ....
no FLYING V, Or downhill skate....Or any combination of yellow, orange and black.
Please the Stick in the rink with that blue. And also, Johnny Canuck (Check out Luongo's Vintage mask to see our original Western League Logo)
Oh, and in the meantime find a defenseman with more experience than Krapicek who is not hurt.
Yeah I was talking about him being interviewed between periods but in the TSN article they have a quote too:
Aquilini didn't rule out changing the Canucks' uniform and killer whale logo.
''The management team will be looking at that,'' Aquilini said. ''That's a possibility. There's always room for change if it makes sense and if it's better. Depending on the feedback of the fans, that's a possibility.''
On its own the logo is fine to me. I hate the color scheme of the jersey. Too dark. The logo is also the CORPORATE logo of the former owner company, Orca Bay Sports and Entertainment. What the heck does an Orca have to do with Canucks? Of course, one could say what the heck does a slug have to do with Buffalo or Sabres?
But it is not a hate for me...it is just that its hmmmm okay. I want something that stands out and is nice to look at, and instills pride in the players. The team's players seem to love the Old Blue, Green, and White stick uni's, and usually play well in them. Last nite of course being an exception.
The only reason I dislike it is that it's a corporate logo really as I am seriously anti-corporate logos on anything as major design features... which obviously shows my age
Those of you who know more about the area what do you think would be a good logo to help "localize" the team as I think that is what they will end up going with.
Rink, stick for sure. It has to be. The people in Vancouver have been rallying all the talk shows to have it back since they brought out the vintage jersey three years ago. With the colour scheme from back then. Anything else and Canucks fans are not going to be happy. The difficulty with bringing back the vintage as the A jersey though is marketing. Many have already bought it. Including my son.
Since the Canucks just hired a Nike Marketing guy as our President a few weeks ago, the likelihood is we will see something new for a jersey. I really wish they had the guts to do Johnny Canuck...but it can be considered a prejudicial effort. Of course the term "Canuck" is slang in a bit of a negative sense from the past as well, so anything could happen. Well, almost anything. Canucks still won't score unless they do something big.
The "vintage" version is green and blue isn't it? I know they've reworked it to the maroon and dark blue current colors as well, but people are in support of the ones like the official Vintage Collection jerseys right?
A Nike Marketing guy does seem to mean there will be a total re-invent; but maybe they'l make the vintage the thirds and Mr. Marketing will create a monstrosity for the regular jersey. Just be glad they didn't hire the firm that "reinvented" the Milwaukee Admirals in the offseason.
Yeah on that Milwaukee guy. Did he do the Sabres? Yes the Blue and Green Vintage ones. White with Blue and green trim for the road. Very nice colours. Both the blue and the green were brightened from the original 70s colours and look great. I can see it sticking around as a 3rd/Vintage uni. But what the heck are they gonna come up with? A V that looks like a Swoosh?
I really do think that as a kind of PR move/it's OUR team now kind of thing they'll have some kind of fan involvement. It could be a vote your favorite design or even a sumbit your idea for the new jersey kind of thing. They keep talking about how they wouldn't do anything if it's not what the fans want etc. so that's why I'm thinking that way.
No idea what they'll come up with though... because the stick in a rink in current colors is the current shoulder patch right? So they don't even have that to adapt from as a lot of teams have done for their 3rds... there's the Orca is tied to a former owner's corporate image I wouldn't think we'd see a redesign of that like Nashville did with their more saber-tooth logog for their sin-ugly mustard colored 3rds... I guess the might consider something the former Mighty Ducks thirds with the team name in script (which I like but reminds me of a softball uniform) or the (imho) painfully boring diagonal team name like Colorado's thirds. Who knows.
I don't know what'll be done for the Nucks logo, but i'm a bit afraid to see an other ugly logo on the ice, as it seems to be the new tendancy for some years.
They sure have been wearing those vintage jerseys a lot this season. Is it just me or haven't they worn them for like four games or something already? I love 'em, they're beautiful/classy/understated, everything a jersey should be (and Buffalo's new jersey is NOT...that thing looks like an arena football get-up). I think the new logo should be a medical cross though...
I think because the Aquinini brothers are local boys they'll listen closely to what the fans have to say. They know how loyal the Vancouver market has become but they also know how viciously those fans react to a perceived slight of their loyalty. I think the best first move they could make would be to fire Dave Nonis, though, jerseys aside. Seriously. He sucks.
Canucks are wearing the vintage for 15 of the 40 home games this season.
As for Nonis...jury still out. I am not sure Vigneault is the best guy for the job, nor am I sure about Bulis, Chouinard, or Krapicek. However, he was stuck with a bunch of troublesome spots with Jovo and Bert and their contract situations. I will give him this season to make up my mind on him. We have little to no depth, but that is not Nonis's fault. It was what he was left with when he got the job...partially him since he was in the organization, but ol' Burkie does what he wants, not what others tell him to do. darn Anaheim looks solid though, in spite of their loss last nite.
