Just to reiterate the challenge rules...

The rules for the challenge are as follows...

  • No trading in season 1!
  • Trading opens once the 1998/1999 Stanley Cup Finals are over. After that, you're allowed to trade at any point the NHL allows you to.
  • You may not trade for anyone over the age of 25. You are allowed to keep your older players and resign them though.
  • Trades can not include 1st round draft picks or unsigned prospects.
  • No more than 2 assets can be involved on either side of a trade. This means you're allowed 1 for 1, 2 for 1, 1 for 2, and 2 for 2 deals.
  • UFA signings are not allowed!
  • Waivers claims are not allowed!
  • You may re-sign your own RFAs and impending FAs at any time. ie If your team currently owns the NHL rights to a player, you can offer them a new contract.
  • Non-Playing Staff may be hired and fired at will.
Yes i know.. But the "unsigned prospects." say to me that is a player who never been contracted, not a player who been on a NHL contract and is RFA.
I want a penalty before i continue to play. Maybe put him on waivers or trade for a 7th pick?

We'll just tack on a penalty to challenge points. You can keep the player.

Sad day in the Tampa as we lost game 7 in the SC Final. We were leading the 3-2 but our team still lacks the experience, I guess. Plus, Patrick Roy just put the Avs on his back and dragged them to game 7 and the Stanley Cup eventyally.

Since we can't trade for a experienced vet to lead our youth we'll be locking to add some hard working and influencial players, be it to out top or bottom 6.

I don't think anyone else in this challenge thinks it's sad as they can't make the playoffs even. :-D

But yeah losing in game 7 SC final is pretty sad.

Wow SC final eh? That's impressive. I've had the joy of picking #4 (Zetterberg), #1 (Gaborik), and #1 (Keith) haha. :\

Just finished the 2002 draft. Our biggest decision came in the 1st round - we were holding the 19th overall pick.

When the Lighting were called to the floor - we have our mind set on a couple of promising youngsters like J.Hudler, J.Pitkanen and J.Boychuk but one of our scouts was really set on picking the unranked prospect - Z. Parise...

After some hesitation, Tampa bay decided to off the grid a picked the Z. Parise 19th overall, time will tell whether we made the right decision...

Tbh, that was season 4. Two seasons of drafting top 10. Plus, season 1 is the most important draft, as I got most of my depth there.

Edit: On the other hand, I'm pretty sure I've ruined Vinny's development...

I'm already convinced that Vinny was a bad roll in this save. He was falling to 6th on the prospects report by my 20/20 AGM by the start of season 2. He has barely improved halfway through season 2 as well. I'm actually seriously considering sending him back to the juniors again to see if can jumpstart his growth.

Here are Vinny's stats with me after 4 seasons

I think, he might've gained one acceleration but otherwise, I think, his stats are the same as season one.... :help:

Unranked? Really?
Wanna hear more about this from the others. (as you have the same save). That's not what I won't in this DB for that kinda of player.
I'd accept it if he was IRL never drafted.

I've done my utmost to keep the balance between keeping this DB realistic and good for the gameplay. I don't want anyone to draft Lundqvist & Zetterberg in Round 7 like they were IRL.

Wait a few years.. you know those ain't bad players. 8-)
___________________________________________________________

You all have the same save so your Vinnie's should be the same. Well training is the only thing that will help/or get worse, but I mean the Potential Ability for that guy should be the same.
I'd suggest for you who goe far into the future to be quiet about these thing, as it will help/guide the other players playing the challenge.

m0fownz0r: Or maybe you're a great tactician (which you clearly are) but bad at training players. :-D

I think my Lecavalier stats are a lot better than yours but I have him on the top line. I only usually run 3 lines though so he gets plenty of TOI.

Yeah, it's probably me. Like I said, I leave the training to my HC. I also had Vinny play up and down the line up.

Another journey to the playoffs ends bitterly as we fall 0-4 to the Islanders in the 2nd round.

We managed to somehow beat the Devils in round one, without Marleau and Zetterberg, both on IR for at least 2-3 weeks at the time. Marleau became the hearth and soul of this team as soon as he arrived.

Anyway, since the turn around for this challenge isn't that high I rather play the 98DB on my own now than continue playing as single participant in Season 6.

Well, that was painful. Just finished season 2: 1st and 4th quarter we were near .500. In the middle... just ugly.

Big moves:
Steve Kelly for JP Dumont- clearly for the future. Kelly had little more potential, Dumont had a lot more, so hopefully that works out.
Puppa to MTL for Garon. Garon was listed as having potential, and Puppa was overpaid, wanted a huge contract and I thought I could move on. This was the start of one of my big spins, so clearly he was important.
Tucker to EDM for Grier: I had it with Tucker. Decent attributes, leading my team in 2 minute penalties and minus rating. I also had a serious shortage of right shots, so Grier fits that bill. May not have been a good deal, but we all know that point where we are just tired of a player underperforming, and this was the best deal I was offered for Tucker for a season.
Dykhuis to wings for picks (only 4th and 6th)
Clark to PIT for Skudra: I think my hatred of what Hedberg did to the Penguins caused this trade. (See if this sounds familiar: A goalie plays the best hockey of his life in a deep playoff run in Pittsburgh. The Penguins then decide based on two months to throw all long term goalie plans out the window, then the guy can never be that good again and damaging the confidence of the fragile previous starter). Aubin and Garon weren't looking too good, drafting a goalie will be too many seasons (3 or more) before he's good, and with no FA's, I have to either give up a lot, or try to get more average backup level guys and hope one develops.

8 rookies made their serious debuts: Aubin was decent in goal, Sedin and Streit had 47 and 46 points, the rest (Lydman, Vinny, RIchards, Mara, Pahlsson) were about 15-20 point players.

My lines are very fluid with this group, but here is the group:

Brunette-Peca-Richer
Zaumner-Langkow-Grier (sometimes Nazarov)
Sedin-Richards-Renberg (sometimes Nazarov)
Andersson-Vinny-Pahlsson (sometimes Nazarov)

Cross-Kubina
Mara-Streit
Lydman-Skopinstev/Bannister

Aubin/Skudra
Garon

Around the league: Tanguay had a 40 goal rookie season. The big three in goal were Hasek, Beeer and the Bulin wall. No shock that the Blues won the Presidents trophy around a great defense.

Goals for the draft/offseason: Pretty much sit pretty. I have the long term 12 forwards (if they develop), and 5 of the right 6 defensemen, so unless the right guy springs free, it will be a lot of sit and hope for development.

Heading in the 3rd season !

My lineup :
Tucker-Savard-Renberg
Zetterberg-Richards-Selivanov
Zamuner-Lecavalier-Langkow
(Sharifijanov)Pahlsson-Bégin-McCarthy (Nazarov)

Poti-Kubina
Lydman-Dykhuis
Mara-Zyuzin

Fernandez - Toskala

Average age : 24 years old
Zamuner is my oldest player at 31 years of age

NHL preview :
MIN 22nd
CBJ 26th
TBL : 29th
WIN : 30th

Winnipeg having a hard time. They drafted H.Sedin and he isn't signed yet and we are in the 3rd season. At their second draft, the took Lundqvist 2nd overall, and friggin Mike Smith at 32nd overall :dunno:

Hopefully my team can do better than season 1 and 2 :)
