Couple questions: faceoffs,Under20 scouting,& widescreen
How does a player increase his face off ability? is there any specific training that helps?
How do I scout a tournament like the world Jrs? I have tried about every possible way.
Is there any way to get the game to play at a higher resolution? My widescreen LCD native resolution is 1680x1250.

1. This is just an "educated guess" of sorts but I've always thought that faceoffs would fall under the 'tactics' category.Grave77digger wrote:How does a player increase his face off ability? is there any specific training that helps?

2. You have wait until the comp starts then it will show up in your 'Assign Scout' menu like the NHL Entry Draft does.
3. No, the game is fixed at it's standard resolution

I'm not sure I follow your reasoning on that though since there is never a time in any NHL game in whihc a defensmen takes a faceoff. So I think if anything it is an offensive skillThundercleese wrote:I'm pretty sure that faceoffs are considered a defensive skill and therefore are trained in the def. skill schedule.

faceoffs are constantly being worked on. Players work on at least 5-6 techniques in practice so they do not become too predictable. Soccer players are usually the best faceoff men, because they are so great with their feet. Peter Zezel was one of the best all time because of soccer. Drury is the same. However, one would think that the Euros would in general be the best at faceoffs if this was all there is to it. Speed ( I mean quickness not skating speed), reflex, hand-eye coordination and strength are huge in this skill.
In terms of EHM the best faceoff men quite often are very strong defensively. Sorry Minty but I have always thought of faceoffs as more defensive than offensive skill wise. Don't know why but I have.
I think the game though trains for it in both categories. I only say this becuase I have Conroy in the game who I have trained exclusively offensively and his faceoffs have improved. I also have Madden who I train defensively only and his have too.
Then again, now that I think about it, I have Drury too...and his faceoff skill goes up in general training. So could be that it is tactical? Hmmmm..Nice answer, cover those bases. Tactical set to medium in all 3 groupings. I should be a politician.

I don't think there is any specific training program that makes faceoffs improve (even if not really logical...). From what i've seen yet, the guys that improve the more in faceoffs are the ones that make the faceoffs, and sometimes some young players, who have a natural devellopement. It doesn't seem to be based on practice.
And yes, faceoff attribute is under the defensive attributes in EHM07, but it was considered as an offensive attribute in EHM05...

Need for a deeper game manual
The game manual really needs to improve for the next version. Most of the info to really learn the game I have found here, not in the manual.I would not have a clue as how to set up practice without the manual that was written for this forum. The game is very deep and the manual is very shallow.I hope the next version of the game covers all aspects of the game so that beginners will not be so lost.

We do our best here to help beginners (and others if needed, of course
). By the way, i've never seen a lot of manuals that cover a game really well...
Not that annoying for a FPS, but far more for a management game, that's true.
You should also access to the in-game tips here:
(main EHM folder)/data/hints/english.cfg (or whatever language you want)
You can open the file with notepad.
Hope that helps

I actually kind of like the vagueness of the manual in this regard. Sure, it's a pain if you're just starting out and especially if you have no previous experience in EHM or other SI games, but it does add a certain realism. If you know exactly what there is under the hood in this game, you'll know what to do and what the consequences of your actions are; however, in real life you judge your actions by the results they produce, without necessarily knowing whether the results came about because of or despite what you did.
Kind of reminds me of the case of my favorite CRP, Planescape: Torment. The manual for that game gave away very little about the universe it was set in -- and for a good reason.

I know I have seen it before but thought nothing of it because I had OOTP but for 20 bucks I am willing to give it a shot.
