Pretty nice performance he is doing for you definetly.

Newyear in my world, and it looks rather good to reach the playoffs this time for me. I am 3rd with 11 wins, 4 losses and 1 tie. Only 2 points behind the leader and the 5th is allready 9 points behind me. We are doing great offensivly, and really bad on defense.

Gary Ammon and Grant Silianoff both have 21 points in 16 games but the biggest surprise is Ivan Morozov, the guy we got a commitment from while he was playing in russia.
Image

With 18 points in 16 games while, due to his lack of creativity, not playing on the PP is pretty nice.

I have Pivonka on a defender spot on PP1 - Pivonka - Grant - Silianoff - Barratt - Ammon and this line works like magic. Powerplay has been my weak spot in the past, but this season so far we are at 32 % success, on the other hand my penalty killing is 72 %. Zhukov is on a mediocore 88.7 % save percentage, though he did record one shutout.

On the managing part we face some real problems, almost no player is willing to commit to Vermount this season. We lost the bonus to be able to offer 1 contract before november so we had to compete for every player with the other universities. We got two rather good and two mediocore player to commit so far Still trying to get two defenders, preferable offensive ones, a right wing and a center. A few very great players are on their last year with me: Evan Barratt, Nick Minerva, Jacob Pivonka, Graham Slaggert, Carson Vance, Maxim Zhukov, Owen Grant and Vladislav Dzhioshvili. Losing all three offensive defenders definetly hurts.

Our two top left wings Silianoff and Ammon are with the USA U-20 at the moment. Sillianoff on 1st line there. Pivonka this seeason is not part of the U-20 national team

This season has by far been the biggest turnaround I've ever seen happen during a season in EHM. Going from bad to good between seasons happens all the time, but to have the kind of breakout we did this season is just insane. I kept thinking it was just a fad and that we'd start being horrible again at some point in the season, but this is what happened:
Image
By late March we looked like a very real contender for the President's Trophy too. But then we ran into some over-zealous opposition goalies that put an end to those plans, and meanwhile Tampa and Washington both ended the season on ~8 game winning streaks, but we did manage to win the West (by ROW as tie-breaker). It was so close at the end there were so many teams capable of catching us down the stretch as we lost 5 of our last 6 games due to facing all goalie prospects that I had no shooting data on and thus getting totally messed up by them being able to put up .93x results against all odds. This is what the standings ended up looking like:
Image
Aside from winning the west we also had a few other nice firsts this season with our first 50 win season and first 300 goal season.

With 2 games left of the season it was all but guaranteed that Pivonka was going to win both the Rocket Richard and the Art Ross, but in keeping with EHM tradition he had a 2 game pointless streak to finish the season while Kucherov scored 5 points in his last two games, stealing both Trophies on the final day of the season. Kucherov also had a completely plausible 6 game streak where he scored 12 goals in March, so that wasn't dumb at all. But regardless I think it would be criminal for Pivonka to not be in the running for Hart this season, he put up 90 (47+43) points in 73 games. By 51 games played he had already broken the RW scoring record for the franchise and his consistency was almost scary, if he hadn't been injured he'd have sailed past 100 points and 50 goals without a shadow of a doubt.

After we turned our fortunes around everyone started putting up numbers, we even had solid point production from the 4th line for once (but we should probably not speak about their +/- as that would require a lot of very creative uses of profanities). Dadonov picked his game up and ended with a quite respectable 72 points (4th on the team) which prompted me to sign him on a 3 year 9M$ a year extension (because we still need a bunch of overpaid guys for the salary floor).

Overall our 1st line put up a combined 232 points (72 - 70 - 90) and our 2nd line put up a combined 214 (75 - 64 - 75) keeping in mind that two of those 2nd line players are rookies, and played the first 1/5th or so of the season on the 3rd/4th line. That's a pretty solid amount of production, I was especially impressed with Grigori Denisenko who really just exceeded any and all expectations I had of him by shattering Joel Eriksson Ek's franchise rookie point total record of 66 points with his 75 this season. He was firmly on the NHL assists leaderboards throughout the season, keeping even pace with Liljegren in that department. With the rule of thumb in EHM being that a forward is capable of about 20 more points per season than he puts up in his rookie season in his sophomore year and beyond; We're looking at a 90-100 point scorer in Denisenko and a 80-90 points scorer in Poehling (whose name I now know how to pronounce thanks to the entry draft last night).

That brings us to the defence, our 1st pairing struggled a fair bit from time to time this season, so there probably won't be a Norris nod for Liljegren just yet. But he did set a new franchise record with 61 points. However a very pleasant surprise came from Adam Fox on the 2nd pairing, who put up 42 points with a +32 rating. There is some argument to be made for having him slot into the 1st pairing Two-Way role next season, but I need to do all my analytics stuff before settling on that.

When it came to the goal-scoring department we mostly scored by committee, with the only two standouts being Pivonka at 47 goals and Nichushkin on 35. I don't know what it is with Nichushkin being so bad in the early stages of every season, but that is an issue and may lead to me needing to replace him long-term. Apart from those guys we had no less than six 20 goal-scorers on the team. So a lot of guys chipped in, with the 3rd line adding no less than 57 goals between the three of them.

Zhukov also really started coming into his own after new years. He started the season so poorly that him being able to work his way above .900 by the end was no small feat. He was such a big factor in us putting together the run we did, and he ended the season with a 40-15-6 record at 20 years of age.

We head into the playoffs as the #1 seed and we're facing the Dallas Stars, which isn't great because we don't do that well against them quite frankly. But let's hope for some playoff magic from Zhukov like we had in our 1st round last season and we should be fine.

Contracts wise we have a lot of stuff ending this season, Boychuk is finally doing his last season for us. He's a - rating machine on the 4th line so I'm not going to be missing him much. That is 3M cap hit walking out the door though, which is a bit annoying. We also have Tlustý's insane 5M a year cap hit coming off the books. He actually had a huge upswing with everyone else and ended the season with 46 points and a +13 rating. But he's started losing his legs already, and there's a lot better scoring talent in our system clawing at a shot to take over that 3rd line goal-scoring role. Again though, that's a combined 8M cap hit out the door. Add in that 5M$ paperweight extraordinaire Andrew MacDonald's 5M cap hit is going off the books and I think you can see a bit of an issue forming here. I've managed to off-set enough of that little issue by giving Timothy Liljegren a 5M a year bridge contract (he wasn't having any of my attempts at a longer deal), as well as Dillon Dubé on a 2.4M a year extension, which sees us able to make the floor without too much issue. But next year we have a somewhat absurd amount of cap hit walking out the door too. So dealing with that will also be fun. It's also not like I can give my young stars deals that are too silly, because I'm stuck with those forever. I did that mistake in Winnipeg and had Ehlers on a 11M a year deal for over a decade. It wasn't exactly helpful, and I'm running out of placeholder players to pour money into dumb contracts for. But Fox, Zhukov, Pivonka and Westerling all come off their entries next year so we should be able to manage just fine. But it's so backwards when you need to try and hit the cap floor early in a team build. In real life you can just get draft picks for taking bad contracts. In EHM you'd need to pay draft picks for the privilege of those same horrible contracts, because the trade AI is really smart *cough*.

Playoff Update: First game of the Dallas series rolls around and I had forgotten Elliott played the last game of the regular season before I went to dinner. He ends up starting game one for us and breaks his finger in the first period. At least I dodged a bullet by having him take the injury over Zhukov, right? Well, sort of. We end up winning the first game in OT. The 2nd game rolls around and Jaro Halak plays like a golden god in goal for Dallas (who have a silly stacked roster in this save). We lost the game, the series is now tied at 2. Game 3 rolls around and we get off to a good start, then in the second period Zhukov fractures his wrist at the same exact time that Dadonov sprains his wrist. Don't even ask how in the name of rigged events that happens. We're now in Pittsburgh territory, say hello to our third stringer Austrian goalie Mickael Rauter, who's so good we've missed the AHL playoff two years in a row with him in net. We're doomed, clearly. As it turns out Jaro Halak forgot goalies are meant to make saves, so we still win that game. The series is now 2-1 in our favor, but we are fielding our third stringer and whatever you call your 4th goalie on the depth charts against Halak. To the surprise of just about no one Halak becomes amazing again this game and our Austrian gentleman does not. The series is now tied at 2. But wait, there's a very obvious pattern here! Halak is amazing every other game and useless every other. And he was useless in the first game, which means we have to win in 7 (assuming his SV% is rigged to keep following that pattern). Guess what? In the next game Halak is useless again! There is hope for us yet. We're now up 3-2 in the series with a shot at ending it in their barn (but we won't because Halak will certainly become a god again), and that was exactly what happened. 3-3 it is, but clearly Halak will be useless again in the next game, so no sweat. As it turns out Jaro Halak is the most consistently inconsistent playoff performer in the history of consistently inconsistent playoff performers, and we get 6 goals past him to take the series 4-3. I love it when blatant rigging works in my favor for once. Oh and Denisenko also got injured, because apparently all our players' wrists are made of glass...
Image
That may just be the most stupid playoff series I've ever seen. It even rivals that one final series against Tampa I had with the Jets.

Now we just cross our fingers Zhukov is back before the next series starts, because Mickael Rauter had a .853 in that series and I sincerely doubt we'll get past San Jose with that.

San Jose proved too much, we lost the first two games at home mostly due to still having to use our third stringer. For game 3 Elliott was back and he put up insane performances two games in a row to get us back to a 2-2. But Martin Jones was disgusting against us, he was overperforming his previous SV% by over 5% for the series. Elliott couldn't keep up the performance in his 3rd game back and we were against the ropes with the series at 3-2, and Zhukov just came back to fitness so as a last ditch effort I changed our shot targeting and put him in net. Jones did go back down closer to his normal SV% for that game but Zhukov phoned in a .800 performance and we lost. Really though with the absurd injury situation it's a miracle we even made it out of the 1st round. It's a bit hard to foresee Jones being weak against low shot targeting for the previous 16 games to suddenly be amazing against it now, but sometimes that happens. 6 games really isn't enough to tell for sure though, since it can just as well be a hot streak. Changing to targeting 5-hole did bring him down to .900 from the .94x+ performances he was putting up the previous 5 consecutive games though, so in hindsight maybe we could have made something happen if I switched sooner. But being too trigger happy on swapping targeting for a goalie does more harm than good a majority of the time in my experience, so I went with the more conservative approach.

Regardless I'm pretty hopeful for next season after seeing what we were able to do after new year. Maybe the game will be so nice as to stop injuring my goalies every 2 seconds and we can make a real attempt at a cup run next season. Now that we're actually winning I've started to look more at the details of some of our players stats and Eriksson Ek sadly is racking up waaaaay too many PIM (which is why I think the Sniper(Phys) role is garbage tier) and he won't be the long term solution for our 1st C. It's too bad there's no way to tell a premade prospect has that variation of the Sniper role until it's too late.

Boston University again won the regular season like every season so far. Silianoff has been able to clinch the Topscorer position of Hockey East. Unfortunately in the playoffs we were elimated in the first round against Massachusetts Minutemen with 2-3 after overtime. ALways have been close matches during the season against them. Well still a good season for us and Maxim Zhukov has been runner up in the Mike Richter Award. Coming season will be a lot more difficult as i have not been able to get star players to commit and am losing a lot of strong players.

Several players that i did not expect to perform so good did it this season .. Morozov 28 points in 30 games, Lafrenière 22 points in 32 games despite only playing 3rd/4th line and PK during most of the season, Ahnelöf 14 points in 30 games - played 4th line and PP2.

New commitments for the upcoming season:

LD/RD Joel Horton defensive defenseman out of Lakeville Minnesota has played 60 games last season with Lakeville South in the Minnesota High School Hockey. He is a defensive minded hard hitting defender who needs to work on his consistency.

C Marcelo Colville two-way forward out of Muirkirk, Ontaro. 28 points in 57 games with the Dryden Ice Dogs in the Superior International Junior Hockey League. He is a strong two-way player who needs to improve his consistency.

LD Riley Leach defensive defenseman out of Canton, Massachusetts. 60 games with North haven in the High School Leageu Connecticut. He is a strong two-way talent with a strong desire to win.

C Adrian Chouinard two-way forward out of Perth, Ontaro. He scored 34 points in 59 games playing for Fort Frances Lakers in the Superior International Junior Hockey League. He is a fantastic two-way talent who rarely has a bad game and produces when the heat is on. He is probably the best player we got to commit this season.

G Bronson Levesque a butterfly style goaltender out of Saanich, British Colombia. The guy who shoudl replace Maxim Zhukov. He is at home at the big stage. A highly aggressive player. He had a save percentage of 92 in 28 games with Whitecourt Wolverines in Alberta Junior Hockey League.

LD Mitchell Menard defensive defenseman out of Toronto, Ontario. He scored 21 points in 46 games playing for Fort Frances Lakers in the Superior International Junior Hockey League while recording a +/- of +14 and 12 Take-Aways. He is a strong blue-line presence who brings his A-game every night.

Well the Vancouver Canucks signed Grant Silianoff, so we lose our best player. Oh well ... he scored 87 points in 66 games with our team and led us to the playoffs last season

Well the loss of star players and not getting good signings definetly shows in the season preview ... we went from 3rd to 9th, so we should not have anything to do with the playoffs this season. But we will try nonetheless. We were able to sign three UFA who did not play in pro or major junior teams to bolster our grid. But they are of course mediocore.

Sucks to lose players to the NHL like that, I'm quite familiar with it from the CHL. Except there you at least have a shot at getting them back for a year or two, but it makes planning a roster a nightmare.

At the end of last season Nichushkin picked up a recurring Hip-Flexor strain, that was pretty much the last nail in that coffin. I decided to opt for forfeiting my 2nd trade of the year to be allowed to trade Nichushkin for Carolina's 2nd+3rd rounder for this year's and next year's draft. It was pretty much the only way to get rid of a player that high profile without the board getting too cross with me. Samuel Fagemo and Viljami Ruusunen are both looking like they will be NHL ready for next season, so our need for Val was diminished and I really wanted to ship him out before his injury started to lower his trade value.

Again we had a draft without any too exciting top end talent, partially because I didn't draft until pick 33 and only had that single 2nd round pick. But I think I may have struck some sleeper gold in the form of a player type I don't usually draft that often. But there was a Defensive Defenseman who plays a strong two-way game in the draft. His tech still looks quite Stay-at-Home to me, but despite being a late round pick all my scouts say he's a #1-2 guy and my Assistant GM has him firmly at the top of my depth charts (above our Austrian goalie that's being compared to a poor man's Ben Bishop).

Our first pick was a bit of a risky one though, but we really need to get solid Two-Way centers to run down the spine of our team with the realization that Eriksson Ek is probably not going to spend too many more years with us and Poehlings quite appauling defensive stats for the first season. Jankowski has really blossomed as the 3rd line Center, so it seems like I finally found his level. But that means we need 1 Two-Way Center and probably 1 Two-Way LW, or just 2 Two-Way Centers. So to work towards that I picked up Robbie Carroll out of Brandon Wheat Kings, his anticipation and creativity are at the bare minimums I consider draftable. And he has had some injury concerns (fairly injury prone, 5 injuries in 4 seasons) but he also has my favourite role for centers in the game (Center:Allround) and is a two-way talent. He's considered a 1st line talent by all scouts and is mostly being compared to Sean Couturier. He's also decently speedy and has quite well-developed technicals.

With our 2nd pick at 63rd Overall I decided to pick up another Two-Way/Defensive Center who I also contemplated at 33rd Overall. Clinton Brenton out of Swift Current Broncos is also a Center:Allround, but with a Defensive game rather than a Two-Way game. The risk in this pick is that I'm not sure I'll be able to get his offensive production up to acceptable levels. But if that's the case he will take over as our new residential BP specialist and center the 4th line. Having a guy like that is never bad, and his upside is 2nd-3rd Center if the offensive production is there. He's considered a 1st line talent across the board by our scouts though and being compared to Jordan Staal and a more talented Sheahan. His Defensive mentals are quite good, and he's got quick feet.

The 3rd pick at 118th Overall saw us pick up Offensive Pointman Pierre-Paul Mosey out of Guelph Storm, he's considered a #1-2 talent by all our scouts and is being compared to a more talented Daley (who has started to lose his legs quite badly by now) or a Josh Morrissey. Overall I didn't like this guy that much, he's got some decently sized holes in his mentals (but 17 teamwork stands out as very good). I'm essentially banking on him having enough of a PA that he will get PA based mentals growth. If that doesn't happen I don't 100% know if he will play for us, or just end up being a trade piece some years down the line. Regardless, getting #1-2 caliber talent at 118 is pretty much a no-brainer. ISS had him at 57th Overall.

Our 4th pick is where I went for Defensive Two-Way Defenceman Alf Christian, formerly of Regina Pats Midget AAA team. I went over his details earlier, but this is what he looks like just after the draft. If my Assistant GM is to be believed this guy is going to be quite the steal:
Image
His defensive tech is already more or less where it needs to be to be able to handle defensive duties in the NHL, but his feet and his offensive prowess needs to grow a lot to get him to be a Two-Way presence at the NHL level. Looking forward to seeing how he grows though.

With out 5th pick at 178th Overall we went for Swedish Two-Way Playmaking Center Gustav Hoffrén. He's being called 2nd line talent and being compared to Krejcí, which is insane if a 178th Overall guy can reach those dizzying heights. This draft really had a lot of potential sleepers in it. His two biggest flaws currently is his skating and his Work Rate, but hopefully he will get those to an acceptable level in a few years, and with some discipline.

Our final pick of the draft went to Defensive Two-Way Winger Chad Hajdukovich, he's a guy who is in his 2nd draft year. But he's also being scouted as 2nd line talent with comparisons to a poor man's Janmark. Regardless of that he's currently already good enough to be a 4th line Defensive forward with quick feet. His creativity needs some love, but that will happen with time and experience.

Overall the draft went very well and I managed to get players who are of different roles than what we already have on the team. Hopefully that let's me start to fix our defensive issues, now that our offence is starting to fire. The one "miss" of the draft was a goalie that was meant to go 161th Overall, I was looking to pick him either 118th Overall or 148th Overall. But Minnesota grabbed him up 97th Overall, so I guess they saw what I saw too. Which is a consistent starter potential goalie, just to torture myself I decided to look him up in the db (since I can't trade for him it won't affect any in-game decisions), and it turns out my scouts were all drunk when they scouted him. So I guess I have Minnesota to thank for stopping me from picking him, since his PA was 138. Speaking of goalies our Austian gentleman is now 198cm tall and starting to look almost as good as Zhukov, unlike Zhukov he's not consistent though. But maybe he will be a very solid backup after all. Not that his little playoff stand in filled me with confidence. But he's only 19 so that's kind of to be expected.

Awards are now also over, no Norris nod for Liljegren as expected, Pivonka didn't get a Hart nod either. He did at least win the Lady Byng though. Grigori Denisenko picked up the Calder as expected, considering how incredible he was in his rookie season.

Nightmare ... yes kind of but i really like it. It means you have to plan for such a thing happening. I never have played a career as long as this one and i am still very motivated with Vermount :)

I feel like disciplining Maisonneuve for violent behavior might be in order after a game like that. His dirtiness has to be quite impressive, and I think (but haven't tested it yet) that if you discipline a player for violent behavior after a game like that you can probably get his dirtiness to lower if you're a bit lucky.

I disciplined him for non profesionalism ... which was the wrong thing i think. he feels he is treated unfair. Shortly after that he has been injured for two weeks. He is still unhappy, but gets less penalties and scores a few goals now (8 points in 9 games for me - 4th best scorer on the team, but having played 4 games less than most others). He has almost no agression and Scout report card says determined, strong character, relaxed ... well kind of true: he has a strong will and was determined to play ugly and relaxed about the consequences.

On and Maisonneuve got more than half his total PIM of the season so far in this one game

New Year is here ... as expected a hard season for us and at new year we are only 9th. but as it is pretty close we are only 5 points behind the 4th. It is the defense that's making big problems, as i have scored more goals than any other team in the league bar none. Ashley Lafreniere is leading the league with 27 points in 17 games. He scored at least one point in every game so far. Ashley has developed really nicely and as he is undrafted, maybe he is not good enough to be considered by the NHL or AHL.

Image

Unfortunately our defenders are lacking a lot, and so a mediocore goaltender is suffering in just about any game. Gary Ammon is again with USA U-20. He has develeoped into a great allround offensive player so i am sure we have to expect to lose him in the offseason to the Penguins who drafted him in the first round of the 2020 draft. Although so far he has not been watched by any team.

Only three players will end their college time this season: C Bryce Misley, RW Walt Gaudreau and D Jesper Kokkila. Misley is our team captain, but those three players are no stars of the team by themselves. A center and a RW allready commited to our team. We had others commit to our team, but had to withdraw the offer as we realized they had played in WHL and so are not allowed to be part of our hockey team.

That is one weird looking Power Forward, don't think I've ever seen one with that low hitting ever. Also that looks like a crazy game, did any of those goal explosions lead to that silly bug where you see multiple goals in the same highlight, and see the whole highlights once per goal scored in it? I had that happen with the Jets once, 3 goals in the same highlight. Then that same highlight replayed 3 times in a row:S

I'm also at new years after a small delay due to a tree feeling like taking out a power line causing the whole town to lose power for 3 hours today.

The season started as usual by now (8% shot conversion, .87xSV%, 5x% BP) but after the game got that out of its system we had a breakout season from Liljegren, maybe not offensively but he's currently topping the league with +35 rating and 7.92 AvR. Looking like a Norris for sure if he keeps that up. Pivonka has sadly declined a fair bit attribute wise at the end of last season and over summer, and is refusing to gain it back currently. I'm hoping he just gained outlandish amounts of playoff attributes and is stuck at an age gate for CA gain. But it's troubling to say the least, at least he's scoring at PPG pace. The name of the game has been scoring by committee this season though, as we finally have 3 scoring lines and a decent enough production without horrendous - ratings on the 4th line. Poehling really isn't growing as I've expected and my scouts are starting to slowly backtrack on their comparisons, but at least Samuel Poulin has finally started growing this summer; Maybe he will be the 2nd line Center we need? For now he's in the Q playing his 4th season for Rimouski.

This is what the standings look like at new years, pay no attention to the amazing BP% we have. Remember it started from about 54% and it's slowly working its way up. Because we hate October for some reason.
Image

We still have absolutely no presence on the goalie leaderboards, but at least we almost have two horses in the Art Ross race, and Liljegren is rocking the +/- rating leaderboards:
Image
The goaltending is slowly but surely improving though, our Austrian gentleman in the AHL is looking like he's about the same level of talent as Zhukov. Quite the steal. Zhukov is now quite comfortably above .900 (finally) which is enough that we have a pretty solid shot at winning any game, which wasn't the case in previous seasons. We're actually starting to have a positive record against the Ducks, which is good since we will be near guaranteed to meet them on our way to the Conference Finals until Perry and Getzlaf decide to up and leave them.

To give an idea of the scoring depth we have now in our 5th season as a franchise, here's our stats at New Years:
Image
We had to deal with a 2 month injury to rookie Defenceman Daniel Matejcek for a fair portion of the season so far. Alf Christian is far from ready to play in the NHL just yet at 18, but I wanted to just give him a little taste as a 5-6 guy while Matejcek was out. There wasn't really a better option in the AHL anyways, we're kinda stacked on raw offensive defenceman in the minors. Our limited pool of two-way defenders are currently on loan in their respective CHL teams, so can't really call on them. A somewhat annoying theme this season is that our 3 snipers (Pivonka, Ruusunen, Fagemo) are all pretending they're playmakers. In the minors Fagemo and Ruusunen both had a 4:1 Goal-to-Assist ratio, and Pivonka was obviously scoring for fun last season. But this year they all have more assists than goals for some reason (part of it being the 8% shot conversion situation). Ruusunen has really picked up his scoring as the season went on, but I'd really like all 3 of them to have a bit more of a shoot first mentality. It's not uncommon for rookie snipers to playmake a bit more than usual, but I'm not sure what Pivonka's excuse it.

no there was no such bug

Lafrenière did slow down his scoring in the 2nd half of the season but it is still short of phenomenal. With 5 games to go he has scored allready 39 points - more than 1 assist per game.

That's some pretty crazy production. At least at the NHL level you don't see that often, but I guess College has a wider skill range.

Well 7th isn't that bad, and although the board wanted a playoff appearance they are pleased with me again. The defense definetly is not up to par. ALso i realiced I have almost no RD but plenty of mediocore LD. Definetly a part where we have to change a few things. Unfortunately we have managed to get NO Defender commit to my team this season. Ashley Lafreniere ended the season with 42 points, 3rd best all time and best assist-giver all time since i am here with 33 assists in 34 games.

Gary Ammon has been signed by the Penguins, I feared as much after his great improvement while being on my team. In 67 games he scored 75 points (38 goals, 37 assists) for my team. So again we will lose quality.

Commitments for the upcoming season:

C Brad Sauter defensive forward out of Rossford, Ohio. He plays defensive first and thrives in big games, which is what we need. Not a great producer of points in the USHL though.

RW Giffen Ashton two-way forward out of Eriksdale Manitoba. He likes to show offensive ability who needs to improve his decision making.

We will definetly have to look if a usable UFA is available

He won the assist category of Hockey East by a margin of 5 assists.

A lot of the assists came the same way - he won the faceoff to the winger positioned behind him and the winger one-timed it to score.

And I like college as here there are really different players. In the NHL differences are so small most of the time with greens all over the place. Here in college a green value is outstanding

I did get some very solid UFAs that did not play anything professional. Not as good as Ammon but solid 2nd/3rd liners with potential

Yeah, I've played most my hours in 90-120 PA European leagues, so I'm used to dealing with lower end players. But really apart from the worst players in lower leagues generally being slightly worse (relative to the best ones) than in the NHL the difference isn't that big. Besides it's not the shown attributes that make a player (other than mentals and to a lesser degree speed), it's the hiddens that make a player good/bad. The value ranges of hiddens in the NHL is the same as in lower end Euro leagues. It's part of why someone like Tyler Kelleher can be a star player in the NHL in EHM. Actual skill level doesn't really matter, it's all about the intangibles. But those can be the exact same in a 100 PA and a 190 PA player, causing a much smaller difference in performance between those outlier than you'd see IRL. It's a pretty big issue as it makes building completely unrealistically good teams way too easy. The constant rotation of players in something like College does somewhat limit that, since you can't keep that amazing team for long.

The regular season just ended in Seattle, sadly Zhukov decided to be horrible in the last few weeks of the season. As a result we go into the playoffs with horrible morale (despite winning the West, because that doesn't give any morale boost, obviously). That poor run down the stretch also meant we lost out on the President's trophy by 1 point. This is what the West looked like at the end of the season:
Image
Jyrki Jokipakka is going to take home the +/- award with his impressive +61, he's started to lose his legs towards the end of this season though so he's more than likely getting close to being done with our organization. Elliott announced he's retiring at the end of the season, and Pivonka has finally stopped his mental breakdown and started to gain back some attributes.

We had quite few injuries for being us this season, but the ones we had were bad. Matejcek (who isn't injury prone at all) had a 2 month injury in the early season, and got a 1 month injury in the last game of the regular season. Viljami Ruusunen had that 2 month injury in the middle of the season that really put a damper on his shot at the Calder. He's been scoring a lot after he returned though, so that's a nice sign.

This is what our Player stats ended up looking like:
Image
Everyone really chipped in this season, and we had some nice performanced from AHL prospects who had to step in for injuries. I was especially liking Trevor Zegras performance on the 4th line when Ruusunen was injured and Volcan had to fill in on the 2nd line for him.

I think I may have forgotten to mention I traded away Adam Fox for the Ducks 2nd and 3rd round picks in the off-season. His "impressive" showing from last season was actually almost entirely down to the fact that I had a little experiment where I played him as a netfront guy on the PP (if you want to get a Dman a lot of points, that's probably a good trick to use). That's where almost all his points came from, and I really wanted to move Westerling over to take that 2nd pairing Offensive Dman role instead of his Two-Way 1st pairing role. He wasn't great this season, but he's been unhappy all season because he's a whining little baby that can't handle getting disciplined for poor performance. He's going to RFA this off-season and because this game is amazing that will make him forget all about that and be happy to resign with us in the summer. His personality issues aside he's a pretty good player and I want to give him at least 1 more year to prove himself offensively before I look into a possible trade.

Yes the constant change is really fun for me :)
and don't forget in my world the head coach is responsible for training and tactics. All I do is getting the players to play for me and chosing which player is dressed and on what line they are playing.

i would wait till 1st november to start signing, else it is a little like cheating as the other colleges start offering in november. the players will join you in august the following year. UFA join right away even during the season. I also set myself a rule to not offer contracts to players which have played in WHL, OHL or QMJHL. The game would allow you to get those players.

Also look under future transactions, a few players will commit to you in the future according to the config file.

amazing thanks for the advice, I signed some scouts. I have a scout in BCHL, USHL, NAHL and one with the US National Team Development program. I signed on UFA Jonathan Duschene just a depth dman. But I like the rules you set for yourself I'll try them out

I haven't played EHM much last week but I'm through my first training camp with the Pens. I've played 6 pre-season games to evaluate my team as best I can and I think we got something there. Not something worth a playoffs run but they definitely have more good prospects that I thought they had. So the rebuild might not be as long as I expected it to be. It's still gonna be tough though, even the pre-season ranking is putting us dead last again.

Since I decided to not sign any UFAs or do trading the team is REALLY young as alot of prospects are already playing with the team. Most of them even played last seasn. I've got 10 players in the line-up under 25 years old and 4 players at 27 years old.

Here are my top prospects:

Joe Sertich LD Despite his bad determination I'm seeing him as my futur #1 dman. I hope his development is not over!

Johnny Brooks C With him it's the work rate that worries me but I can't deny that at 22 years old he already have good attributes! Probably the replacement of Crosby as my #1 C.

Samson Masson C/LW/RW Masson got aquired from the Avalanche in a trade. I really like this guy attributes and I hope he improves his overall shooting/stickhandling.

Like I said when I took over the team my main goal was to get past the post Crosby era. At least with Brooks and Sertich I seem to have a good duo to start with. I also have 2 prospects in the AHL that are wingers that I hope will be good. With this I could at least have a futur 1st line maybe.

In the net it's something else though. I currently have 2 "okay" goalies but not starter material. First of all we have Zachary Sawchenko who is 26 years old and he was their starter last year and will be mine by default this year too. He has alot of green but "backup goalie green" if I can say so. Next we have Micke Anttila who is 23 years old. IMO his left column is started material but his right column is well, horrible material. :D He was horrible last season and I can understand why. So getting a good goalie will be one of my urgent priorities as they don't have any in their prospects pool.

So like I said I don't plan on making the playoffs and I sure hope we can finish in the bottom 5 so I can draft well again. At least the past AI has drafted better than I expected so it's going to help me a bit. I also dismantled my nine-o/Shindigs tactics to be sure I'm not going to get some extra wins because of those tactics. :D Anyway the team is too young to try those tactics and I prefer my players to be a bit older to implement that. My first season is going to be an "observation" one.

I've set some rules though to make things a bit harder because only via UFA I could easily rebuild the team since the AI is letting go tons of good players each year. No UFAs signing, I can try to steal some RFA under 25 years old and trading is allowed but only for picks or 25 years old players or less. I can trade out whoever I want though except Crosby right now, as I want him to retire with me.
