Pretty good weekend for both Lightning & Flames, some unexpected victories. Probably better for the Lightning, as they won in the league. Both now trailing the Storm in the conference standings though
Nice goal from Mokshantsev this weekend: https://youtu.be/KXK_g0CCxf8?t=9m5s

Mokshantsev's goal was very nice...
... but ultimately Watters is EIHL player of the week.

MK are looking pretty good! Kearney has proven quite the signing.
I feel Guildford were lucky to come away with two points this weekend. Yesterday's game against Manchester was really scrappy and we were fortunate Manchester gave us so many opportunities on the PP. We really need one or two bigger players as we're getting pushed around in every game - just as many predicted.

Flames just need to wait for the 5 minute powerplays when playing the Stormarchibalduk wrote:MK are looking pretty good! Kearney has proven quite the signing.

Sounds like a fantastic performance this evening though, to beat the Devils 6-1 away. Looks like the Devils have started a bit slowly.
For the Flames, I really like the look of Ackered & Craige, and Ben Davies appears to be enjoying his role with Guildford. He didn't really shine for the Blaze and only really looked good for the Clan on the PK.
Ackered & Lidhammar also appeared to appreciate me wearing my AIK t-shirt pre-game.

League's looking pretty good this year so far, although a bit early days. I think the Patton conference could be really competitive.

You are getting a huge thumbs down from me for wearing such an atrocity.

Go home and burn it right away!

I've been really impressed with the quality of the team we've assembled, as well as the early performances against some big teams.archibalduk wrote:MK are looking pretty good! Kearney has proven quite the signing.

Re: The British Hockey Thread 2017-18
I've seen the Belfast and Manchester games via the online streaming services. Other than that, it's whatever highlights packages teams put online. Thankfully many teams have streaming services now which means I'll be able to watch maybe 25-35% of games.
I doubt I'll go to any games this season other than (hopefully) the playoff finals weekend (assuming it doesn't sell out). It just ends up costing too much with the flights and hotel. I was looking at going to Nottingham and Manchester last minute but it was around £400 and £300 respectively for flights!... Maybe I'll be tempted to go to one or two games but I'll need to book ahead when the flights are cheaper. It's just that autumn/winter here is hit and miss with sea fog and I always seem to get the bad luck!

An interesting insight into some of the T&C's of EIHL contracts: https://assets.publishing.service.gov.u ... -11-17.pdf
Heatley was earning £365 net per week, but also got a flat, a car, and he was also on an MBA (£17,280). He also got his brother (Dany) to buy his hockey sticks by the looks of things

Re: The British Hockey Thread 2017-18
Interesting! That works out at £447.15 gross per week according to The ListenToTaxman Calculator for the 2016/17 tax year. So that's £1,937.65 per month (gross) or £13,414.50 for the season (gross) which is equivalent to £23,251.80 per year (gross).
Assuming rent at £800 per month (net) in Manchester, that's £3,114.13 (gross) per month, £21,559.50 (gross) per season or £37,369.56 (gross) per year (see here). Whilst it's a very decent salary if you were paid that all year round, the 30 week salary does make a big difference (the average salary for a person working full-time in the UK is £27,200).

Was MotM too (not sure how they went with him, maybe a slightly ‘fashionable’ choice)

He scored a nice goal a month ago only for it to be chalked off because one of his teammates swore at the ref before Kirk scored the goalAlessandro wrote:I'm back to UK hockeyfare, this time I talked with 2018 draft prospect Liam Kirk: https://thehockeywriters.com/liam-kirk- ... nhl-draft/

Another one for Kirk today, Sheffield have had some injuries and suspensions recently so he's getting more ice time.
Edit: now on a 4-gane point streak.

Re: The British Hockey Thread 2017-18
Annoying how you cannot choose what seat to sit in for the playoff finals weekend. I tried different blocks and it kept wanting to put me right at the top. I ended up getting a seat with the Belfast fans near the front. However, it's near the benches and so I'm a bit concerned the view might be obscured. The arena's seat viewing page isn't working and so I'll have to wait until April to find out...
