The rookie problems?
I am seeing in some others forums there's a rookies problem arround the years 2010... Well, because the unfaking and the patch 2.0.2 was out i started my real career and i want to get from the Q to the NHL so it's gonna take sometimes... hehe...
Well, is it true that good players like Kovalchuk, Spezza and Heatly come naff or in some games they still lead the leagues arround those years? And is it true that there's no stars rookies that appear in the game anymore too?
Cause that would sucks badly!

I can't tell you if things are going so wrong, as i'm only in my second season, and i play in europe.
By the way, i heard there will be an other patch, version 3.0.3. I hope this rookies issue (and other issues) will be fixed... And the sooner the better, as SI guys will also have to think about develloping EHM08...

I'd give this one my usual SI Official Boards Caveat: take everything said on the SI Official Board that is not posted by someone with an official role at SI with a grain of salt and a healthy bit of skeptecism. I know for a fact since I'm one of the actual external testers of the game that Riz has personally been working directly on tweaking problems with player development and that he claims to have resolved most issues in that regard for the patch that is out right now.

Yeah, there is a lot of complaining of the style "I had 10 first-rounders in 2013 and it's now January 2015 and NONE of these guys are stars --- THE GAME IS BROKEN!!!!".
I've just started January 2010, so I can't really comment; if I see a huge drop in technical attributes in a season or two, I'll tell you. And when I complain, something is broken, you can take that to the bank.

I'd assume no... the reason it did so last time was that they updated the database with that patch. So since there I assume won't be any additional database changes made this go-round I don't think it will overwrite the db again. That for right now is just a guess however as I have no idea what will end up being included in the next patch.

Just go see if Heatly, Spezza and Kovalchuk have good skills...Kekkonen wrote:Yeah, there is a lot of complaining of the style "I had 10 first-rounders in 2013 and it's now January 2015 and NONE of these guys are stars --- THE GAME IS BROKEN!!!!".

I haven't had a problem with developing players at all since the patch came out. I have some really strong young talent that, pre-patch, went nowhere (I restarted my career after the patch for this reason, actually). The drafts have been pretty good for a couple of years now....there's at least two or three players that could hack it in the NHL in each draft. Some drafts are deeper than others in this regard, but that's just realistic as far as I'm concerned. The first one I went through post-patch was a weak one, but that's accurate to real life too...last season's draft was by no means a spectacular pool of talent.

The work in this area isn't over either btw, Riz is still tweaking and testing the player development system which is obviously a very complex thing but he did tweak the whole spectrum of development and specifically address and test for making sure drafts had decent talent pools with the latest patch.

I understand what you are saying Alex but again it gets back to the fact that declaring this a "bug" even is too strong and saying you are not going to play the game anymore because of it is not a rational, fact based decision.
I try to only say things that are I know to be fact based, that I've heard them directly from Riz in testing and are revealed to be true as detailed in the patch changelists in order to not have people acting on something someone said from their game and everyone assumes then affects every player in every game which it simply doesn't.
In SI's in house testing they run multiple games out several hundred years and in each game compare thousands of players to the rest of the league and to the other results of other games to actually get to if something needs to be remedied and if it does they change something slighty and repeat again to make sure that any results are ONLY due to the changes made; if it was done any other way the results people get from the game would be all over the board and the game would never have gotten to where it is now.
So, people can choose to listen to people on the SI boards who aren't always the best sources of info and are often citing what happened to them with a few players in a certain game they are playing. Then as things go through the boards a game of telephone occurs where one person says something and the next person repeats it but with a bit of a change or what they thought they heard, or what someone else said someone someone else said they heard someone say... originaly it affected three people in their game but it soon becomes that it affects every player in every game and the game world implodes in 2010 or 2011 or 2012 (when convenievently people aren't even at that point in their games) but since someone said it on the board and they aren't to that point ot have their own compariosn it has to be right, right? So they then agree this is a game killing 100% certainty. Thankfully SI knows better.
So I say listen to Chicken Little if you want and believe the sky is falling and deprive yourself of playing the game and continue to pass things on as certain fact when they are no more than rumor.... or try to figure out what is fact, what is fiction and what like in this situation contains a nugget of conditional fact that has transformed itself into something that it really isn't via hysteria and the crazy attitude often prevalent at the SI Boards and join in the game is broken chorus.
However at TBL we'll continue to only go only by actual fact and I will continue to stay out of such discussions because as you can see even when I do speak only from actual fact things still become twisted so it's better I not say anything isn't it?

I may only have got to 2009, but old vets like Jagr and Shannahan were still improving when they were with my rangers team. Jagr got a 147 point season first time around, Shanahan was only about 60, but both of them had ratings that were IMPROVING! I dropped Shanahan when I accuired St. Louis on a UFA and he retired shortly after. Jagr played for a second season with me a recorded about 110 points, before I dropped him before season three when Lundqvist and Staal both wanted 2 million more than last season for their contracts! (they had been on rookie deals! less than 1mill!).
Still I find that all my players are improving as long as I keep in some decent coaches.

I hope the fix this problem pretty soon, I have some really good prospects that I'd like to develop into NHL players. The last patch seemed to be a massive undertaking with many different areas of the game being affected. This bug (if it is a bug) seems to be limited to one area so hopefully it comes out relatively quickly. I still play the game regardless, none of my prospects are declining but rather have been stagnant for the past few seasons. I also hope that the patch doesn't overcompensate, with every team having multiple sure-fire stars in the making. My first rounder (2nd overall) in his second pro season doesn't seem to have what it takes to be a first or even second liner and I'm fine with that, just as long as every team has the ability to develop propects whether or not they are "boom" or "bust."
