Ha! I was actually watching this game live and the announcers got quite a kick out of it too. It was an icing call and I guess technically they can whistle it without his having touched it but I think there was like 2 seconds left in the game or something... it's pretty entertaining if you ever get a chance to see a feature with the linesmen/referees mic'd up, they have a lot of fun with the guys when it's not all just arguing calls etc. Some of the guys are pretty funny actually.

I actually did laugh out loud when I watched that clip.

As for funny refs, we used to have a linesman here who was an awesome skater. Fast as heck, and he occasionally did mock figureskating moves when fetching the puck.
