2008 Idea

Post by B. Stinson »

I'm playing EHM as I speak, and was just struck by an idea that I think would be pretty cool.

So, I'm Reading of the ECHL and have been one of the top 2-3 teams this season. I just got a tidbit in my news saying that Florida is expected to go all the way with little opposition. I, being one of the best teams, was offended. So, I thought I should scout the Everblades to get better intel. on them so I can better beat them or use some of their ideas to better my team(I like to relate these management sims to military management as much as I can ;) ). But then I realized that scouting the team will do nothing in giving me info on them. What will, though, is going to their tactics screen and checking out what lines they're using, as well as what tactics they're using... which is where my idea came to me: Normally, GM's can't navigate to a team's "tactics screen" and find out how they play. They need to send a scout out to that team to take note of what that team does. So, what about the ability to scout a team's strategy in EHM(not like the quick pre-game ones we get right before we play a team)?

What would happen is, we send a scout out to scout a team at any time, and he would watch a handful of their games. Then he would return back to me with his notes, which detail the lines and strategies used in each game he watched. Then, like any other scouting trip results, we can possibly save the report for later reference. Basically, it would be like scouting nations/leagues/regions, except instead of the results being players and their info, we would get the team's strategies and line-ups used in the watched games. And of course, they would get old after a while, and we would have to "update" ourselves by scouting them again.

It may be difficult to implement, and with the problems the game is facing right now it may not fit the plans... but I think if this made it's way into the game sometime, it would be much more fun than getting freebie intel. on other teams by simply looking at their tactics screen.

It would certainly make the game more challenging which is always a plus in my book.

I like the way you think, Stinson.

Really good idea B. Stinson =D>

I suggest you to post it on SI boards. ;) Maybe they won't have time enough to implement it for EHM08 (but maybe they will, as they seem to make miracles sometimes), but at least they'll have this good idea for a further version ;)

Also agree thats a great idea!!!

Actually, in EHM05 it was easier to see how the opponent is playing, going into their tactics screen, but now (with all the sliders i guess) its harder, right???

Would be good idea to implant it in the next version!!!

I believe that you can scout teams in FM in a manner similar to the one you suggested ( but on FM you can still go to their tactics screens and look as well) so it may not be that unlikely to be seen in EHM soon.
