It is, of course, too early to say the final word, but I really liked this:
About 2 weeks before the 2011 trade deadline:
I get:
Al Montoya
NY Rangers (AI) gets:
Aleksey Yedeshko
4th round draft pick in 2011
Yedeshko is an Ukrainian regen, a D-man drafted in the 2nd round (38th overall) in 2009. He came over in the summer of 2010 with high recommendations from my scouts; I sent him to Owen Sound in OHL for the season, and there he was just awful, and now he appears to be well on his way in the dreaded 'long-term project -> useless bum' transition.
The 4th-rounder turned out to be 120th overall, as I won both the President's Trophy and the Stanley Cup. (Ahem!)
Al Montoya filled in for an injured Niittymäki straight from the plane from NYC. I gave him a total of 11 starts, in which he went 7-2-2, had 1.80 GAA, .935 save %, and 3 shutouts with a 8.09 rating. To top it all off, he signed a 2-year extension worth about $1,150,000 a season.
