Need help with trades

I have problems trading important players(first 2 lines) everytime I try to trade someone the other team financial staff refuse the deal.I tried trading Alex Kovalev(4.5m$) for Gaborik(4.5m$),injured for 2 weeks, they refused.I tried putting all my good prospects and they still refused.

Kovalev,Schremp and Malkin for Gaborik, and they refused...What the Dickens?

Like Minstrel told me i checked the contract length, they both end up in 2009, they both are 1st line RW, It's really getting on my nerves now.

What's the prob?

EHM rarely lets blockbuster trades like that through.

How are you suppose to get star players? Free agent? There's no way to trade 1st line players? Kovalev for Gaborik...it's not like trading Crosby for Ovechkin.

I forgot to say that there's no salary cap and floor. Right now im trying to trade Marian Hossa for Kovy and the Sedin bros(to let Malkin and Perry play...)and they still don't want.

There's no way the AI should trade Gaborik for Kovalev straight up. Gaborik is 9 years younger of the two; would you give him up for Kovalev?

As for the everything-and-the-kitchen-sink for Gaborik, the AI just doesn't go for these types of deals. They don't happen in real life, so I don't think that is such a big deal. And would you really give up Malkin and Schremp for Gaborik?

I was trying to trade Kovalev and H.Sedin for Gaborik, then I just tried putting Patrick, Malkin and Schremp to see what I'd need to give for a 5stars player...I'm not stupid enough to trade malkin, Patrick and Schremp!
What am I suppose to give for a good RW?I thought Sedin bros and Kovy for Hossa was a pretty good deal for them...

The only way that teams are willing to part with key players is when they're toast in the standings later in the year. Sometimes even that doesn't work--if a player is untouchable, he's untouchable, it doesn't matter what you offer. For example, if the Penguins offered the Flames Crosby, Malkin and Staal for Kiprusoff and Phanuef, it's not gonna happen (same with if the situation was reversed). Teams build themselves around certain players and giving up the foundation of your team is never the right way to go.

I think the only way you can get a 5-star player in a trade is by offering another + maybe draft picks or something in return. Even that doesn't always work.

I was able to trade Ryan Garlock, Adam Pineault, Fredrik Modin, and the rights to Ryan Wilson for Ovechkin and Steve Eminger just days after the 2007 draft. Timing is very important. I couldn't even get them to consider trading Ovechkin up until that point. Right after the draft Washington and a few other teams approached me about the availability of Wilson, so I started "wishing". Obviously, I was stunned when they accepted. At the same time, I had a few teams that were really hot on Vitaly Karamnov. He was a center I drafted early in the second round with killer skating, good face-offs, and shooting. I was able to get Ryan Getzlaf for him, straight up. I had offered much more for him in the past but they never bit. It was all timing. Everyone was hot for a prospect I had and were willing to give up more for him.

It really is all about timing a lot of times, that's the big x factor, but it always pays to do your research as well. Compare contract lengths, team finances, strengths/weaknesses, their declared "goals" and other info from their declared needs on the trade screen, all those things factor in.

Unlike 'console hockey' trading just matching up the players and stars won't get the deal done. The stars are just a guide that indicates what the team thinks of the player... those are affected by contract/finances/their team needs etc. which is why a team close to the cap wouldn't take even a superstar and would probably show that player as a one star player, because for them he has no use.

Trades are tough to execute for stars in EHM and that's the way it should be. The only mutually beneficial trade I've been able to pull of so far is trading Bryan McCabe and a scrub for Brad Richards. It helped that the game overrates McCabe so much though

I have tried making plays for Marleau, Leopold, Carter (jeff) and Ladd and have been turned down at every end. Mind you this was August I was making these trades.

Ladd is pretty hard to get for me unlike NHL 2K7 when I could get him for John LeClair (yes that's right) straight up. While it's funny, it's definitely not realistic in the least

So I am a little shocked. I am playing the Blue Jackets challenge. In year 2 43 games in....David Vyborny is asking for 5.4 million per season. He will be UFA at the end of the season. Yeah, right I will pay him 5.4....sure.

So...I decide to list him as available...and the NYR come calling. Their offer for Vyborny: Petr Prucha and Cory Sarich. AND CORY SARICH.

That offer alone almost made me do it, but I negotiated...so I end up with the accepted offer of:

Mark Staal, Cory Sarich and Petr Prucha for Vyborny, Montador, and a rubbish ass prospect...so yeah...HAPPY DANCE!!!

BTW: I also got Nigel Dawes from these morons for Ville Leino straight up! Leino is so great he led my team in giveaways. And in the ability to get a point every 5 games. Bye Bye Ville..but traded him more because he wanted 2.5 mill...I could only sign him to a one year to get him to come over.

So yeah. Wahoo! Great trades.

ah, the power of retaining rights.

i have leino and he had a couple good years, then a 45 point season. he wanted 2 mill per year so i decided to hold out and wait for arbitration. well the arbitrator ruled 450k contract so i was quite happy i didnt give in and sign him earlier.
