Well, I had a 19-year-old goalie who got 'Star' reputation because he did a clean sweep in the ECHL awards ceremony -- best rookie, best goalie, league MVP. Minor league awards are way overrated.Systemfel wrote: Jeez, I signed this guy in '07, and he went on a complete tear in Rochester. Think he scored 180 points and won like five trophies. Then his contract expired and when I wanted to re-sign him, he was asking for FIVE MILLION DOLLARS. 5 mil after ONE year in the AHL. Traded his rights to the Avs for their 1st rounder, which I later used to get Crosby.

Just noticed another guy here.
Aaron Marvin, drafted in the third round of the 06 draft by the flames.
The kid is 19, look at these freaking attributes. BTW, this is the 07-08 season.

EDIT: Haven't actually played him yet, so I don't know how good he'll be. Also, his potential is -14, which is somewhere between 90 and 160. I gotta think in my game he got a very high potential. Might not be the same in your game.

Just noticed they're just the same, Sucker Punch. Yours has better stamina though.

I have a couple more I found always pay off in the first year at least. Please ignore the incorrect spelling of players names.
Scott Hannen, His average rating is almost always over 9
Dion Phanuf, A #1 Dman who always has a high rating and gets paid dirt.
Jere Lehtinen, Consistently high rating and one of the best second line left wings in the game.
Paul Karia, Usually has a rating around 7.5 but puts up big numbers.

Eric Cairns is one of my must. He's no superstar, but you'll get a solid 6th d-man, capable of doing PK and fisticuff. He's also pretty cheap and consistent (in my games at least).
Needing young d-men? I usally sign Tim Hambly and John Adams to fill up my farm. They can turn-up on decent back-up and with patience, Adams can play NHL on a regular basis.

I always end up getting Paul Gaustad. I usually have him on my third or fourth lines, hits everything and chips in timely goals, especially on the PK. Even when I set him as a shutdown player, he still rates a 7 or 8.
I also like Andrew Ladd a lot, signed him as a RFA from Carolina, only cost me a 2nd rounder. Having him and Prucha frees up a lot of money to go after the superstars.

LW Alexandre Picard (Bluejackets) is a very good two-way player. In his 3th season, he's playing on my two offensive lines, racking 1 point per game. After his 3yrs $600K has been expired, I signed him for another 3yrs $1.47M. So he's affordable too. In my game he's 24 years old, has great determination(19) and only going to be better.

I never had Gaustad until my current game, where I traded for him in the 1st season when I was looking for grit and size. I still have him in 2011/12, he plays on the 3rd line and 1st PK, consistently getting those 7s and 8s, and he's signed through next season for about $900,000/yr. Comes highly recommended.Powerslave wrote:I always end up getting Paul Gaustad. I usually have him on my third or fourth lines, hits everything and chips in timely goals, especially on the PK. I've got him in my current game too. I'm playing as the Blackhawks. He's mostly a 4th liner and PK guy for me. Once in a while he plays on the 3rd line. Despite this, he's got 19 points in 68 games so far. Not shabby for a guy that's just there for toughness. He's also got 258 hits (leads the team in that category) and a few shorthanded points.Kekkonen wrote:I never had Gaustad until my current game, where I traded for him in the 1st season when I was looking for grit and size. Another Sabre I love to trade for is Derek Roy. This guy is all about "character"! Bravery, Determination, Teamwork, Work Rate... all high stats! Plus he's got nice speed. Starting out he's better as a 3rd/4th line and PK guy but later on down the line he's a decent offensive threat.
I never really paid much attention to Arron Asham before but I picked him up in my current game as well. He's a great 3rd/4th line physical/grit guy.

Yes I can only recommend Asham, drafted him in my previous career with a fantasy drafted Bruins team and got him in my current one with the "real" Bruins as well. Plays on a third line with Axelsson and Curtis Brown, although for some reason his +/- is nowhere near as good as his linemates' he's still good on the PK, not hesitant to stand up for his mates and drop the gloves and chips in the odd goal/assist as well, 25 points this season.
I'm playing right now at this very moment, playoff time and speaking of the devil, this 3rd line has just scored against the Devils in game 5 of the semis with Asham getting an assist
