Auch!

Its not going well now!

I'm in the 09-10 season. Been rated as the best team in the league three years in a row, have won numerous individual awards, but have gotten bounced in the first round twice, and reached the third round once. This season, I'm a couple months into the season, and am playing .500 hockey.

Perry - Spezza - Ryan
Dawes - Toews - Alfredsson
Morrow - Blake - Clark
Niemenen - Papineau - Ortmeyer

Hannan - Meszaros
Staal - Hamrlik
Kulyash - Clymer

Wiikman
Biron

In the system;
Couture, Esposito, Tavares, Downie, Beech, Hodgson, Teubert, Daugavins.

My goaltending really has to be addressed. My goalscoring is fine, but I can't keep the puck out of the net. I'm planning on throwing money at Kiprusoff during the next offseason.

The strange thing is, last season, I got to the third round, and was one point away from winning the President's trophy. The only difference in my lineup is I lost Redden and added Hannan. If anything, my defense should improve a little while my offense suffers. I can't figure it out.

I don't really have any average prospects anymore. I dumped them all for good ones. And anytime I have a good player I can't use, I dump them for picks. Both Redden and Heatley got me two high first round picks, for example. Also, on draft day, I usually only have 1 to 3 top 5 picks, and nothing else. My farm team has completely dominated the AHL the past couple years, hopefully that can transfer into my NHL team someday.

The top pick for Tavares cost me my 1st and 3 2nds.

I know this is kind of a cheap way to play, but this game is still REALLY hard for me. Once I start pwning, I'll probably restart and try to play more realistically if you know what I mean.

My guess would be that is because you still have an extremely young team. There's no questioning the skill level/potential of your players but overall you lack veteran leadership and playoff experience. Keep in mind players begin to hit their peak around 26, later for goaltenders and defenseman. Also, there are plenty of solutions in goal beside waiting to hope to sign Kipper or have one of your prospects in goal develop.

Yep, the age thing concerns me too.

One thing I forgot, I had Craig Conroy as my second line centre last season, but shipped him out after acquiring Toews, simple made too much money.

And the goalie thing... I think I'm better off spending this year with Wiikman. He's pretty much equal or better than anything available to free agency or trades. His goalie stats are all 16+, and I don't want to be losing any assets in a trade that wouldn't significantly improve my team.

I just started a Penguins Dynasty. My goal for this season isn't to go out and win like I try to with all my other teams. So far I've dumbed a couple of rubbish players and now I'm slowly picking up future core/key players. I'm also trying to hold onto my draft picks and prospects. I plan to dumb Gonchar at the deadline. Basically I'm looking to build for the future win, not now.

I'm playing with the Pens right now too, the first year was pretty much desastrous on the ice, but was pretty good on the second floor actually. I've managed to get some very skilled youngtser to be ready to compete right away in the second season.
In my first year I've managed to get:
-Vanek for Nils Ekman and an 5th rounder
-Bourdon for Ryan Stone, 3rd rounder and 2 5th rounders
-I've signed Patrick Lebeau from F.A (yeah yeah Patrick Leabeau, he managed to get 40pts on my first PP line plus 4th line)
-Marc Staal for Sokol and Soderberg
-Komisarek for Leclair and 2 5th rounders
-Heatley for Gonchar, Malone and Hartman
-Pominville for Talbot
-Gaustad for Butler
-Grabovsky for 2 6th rounders

So i've finished last in my conference (eqal with Toronto but less wins), the only good points were Malkin and Welch who got on the rookie team. I've won the lottery to stay on the top for the draft and I picked Patrik Kane who was more NHL ready than others (also fitted more in my squad since I had alot of good center already).
My big move of the off season was to get Paul Kariya as free agent, I was trying to get St-Louis or Cole first, but failed.

So then I start my second listed as 6th team in the NHL talent wise, after 10 games i'm at 6-4, the offense is pretty solid (3rd in the league), but my goaltending is going very bad, Fleury having a GA of 4+. Hopefully he will replace hiimself and I should be able to clinch a playoff spot this year :)

I'm the Leafs... been playing 5 seasons now

Forwards:

Kovalchuck- Parise- Prucha

Nick Parrish- Grabovsky- Kopitar

Denis Kazionov- Getzlaf- Perry

Battaglia- Hamill- Lewis

Defense:

Tomas Kaberle- Marc Staal

Jiri Fischer- Grossman

Parent- Rafalski

Goalies:

Niitymaki

Auld

In my first season, we struggled to make the playoffs... finishing in 8th with a win on the last game of the season, but then getting beaten 4-1 in the first series

The next season I finished in 8th in the east.. 1 point behind 7th and once again got beaten in the first round

Season 3.. Finished 4th in the east place and won the cup... losing only 2 games in the entire playoffs

Season 4... Finished 4th again... made it to the cup finals but got swept

now I finished 2nd in the east... and I'm on the verge of sweeping the first series of the playoffs

I can still look forward to a great dynasty because my team's average age is just above 25 for the second youngest in the league

For now he's a decent big guy (in 2009). Plan him as a long term development. He could turn 2nd or 3rd liner, depending if you want him to go defense or offense.

In AHL he rocked the league in 2007-2008 with a 100+ season along with Lindgren. If he clicked with the fast finnish in AHL, I hope they'll do the same in NHL. (next season my farm team sucked because they lost their first line :p)

His first season in NHL, stayed mostly on the 4th line and wasn't wonderful (I nicknamed him "blow job" for that :p). I'm now experimenting combinations, so he's has played on the four lines for now...

Playing the flyers, first season.

Finished 1st overall with 108 points.

Just won the Stanley Cup. We swept the bruins and then the rangers. I was afraid of the Rangers, they gave me a hard time during the season.
Won 4-2 against the Sabres.

For the final, I came back from 1-3 down to the Stars.

Jeff Carter was voted MVP of the playoff.

Since I had to restart my game with the update of the 3.0.3 patch from SI, I haven't done too bad.

I'm playing with the Rocky Mountain Rage of the CHL.

Had the Rage finish 1st in the standings in 2006-2007, but saw a short playoff run, because we were taken out in the 1st round.

2007-2008 season wasn't too bad, finished 3rd in the league, 2nd in the conference, and 1st in the division. But just as the season before, we were knocked out in the 1st round.

2008-2009 was a different season for me. Had a hard time all year long, but pulled off a good set of victories down the road. Won the last 28 of 35 games to get 2nd in the league, 2nd in the conference, and 1st in the division. Plus, the playoffs were a different story. I went to the finals, but were taken out once again. Not bad though, 3 straight playoff appearances and 1 finals out of that. I think I'll bring the championship home soon.

Playing with the Bruins, half of the first season gone, leading the Division and Conference, beat the Leafs 9-0 recently :-p
Admittedly after losing 1-7 to them just 2 weeks before.

Boyes is having a surprisingly good year playing on a line with Zetterberg and Bergeron, Kessel is outstanding but I guess that's not that hard playing with Savard and Hejduk.
I feel the team is good enough for the Cup, albeit I've noticed a lack of consistency in my 2 scoring lines apart from Zetterberg and Savard.
Furthermore Jim Vandermeer (picked him up from Waivers) seems to be the weak link in defence.
I've still got about 5m left to spend and I'm looking for a veteran dman to play on my 3rd unit, doesn't need to have any offence since I got Chara, Stuart, Leopold and Campbell for that, but should be above average defensively. Might play him on the PK a bit as well.
Moreover a defensive-minded Center who can also play the wing wouldn't harm, I've really only got Conroy as a good center for the PK unit, I've got a couple of other good defensive forwards who play the PK but all of them are wingers and not really good at Faceoffs. I end up playing Savard or Bergeron on the 2nd PK :dunno:
Any recommendations, especially for the D ? Money doesn't matter that much since like mentioned before I've got about 5m left and I don't intend to keep him, I got the rights to Marc Staal and some solid Russian D prospect (forgot the name though :D)

EHM has been a harsh mistress, but then again I'm more of a quick sim let the head coach do all the work kind of guy. I do intend to flesh out and have a more direct involvement.

It took my fourth season as the Montreal Canadiens GM to make the playoffs, and even then I dropped from 5th to only qualifying in the last week or so of the regular season. After which, I was swept by the UBER Sabres in the first round.

Presently playing .464 hockey 14 games into the regular season. Alex Pietrangelo is doing great in his rookie season, and was named the NHL defensive player of the week for the last week of October. Latendresse and Grabovsky are still being waited on to start showing their solid potential, though I know more direct involvement from myself would gain some better results. I presently have the most stable goaltending yet in free agent acquisition Miikka Kiprusoff and young Al Montoya.

Second year with the flyers.

Signed Daniel Sedin while injured during last year. Signed Zedhnick as a free agent.

My lines are not fully definitive yet. I'm still wondering where to play Forsberg. First or checking line? I'm having more sucess with him on first line though.
And Sedin is balloting either in first or second line. Last game i won 8-1 with Forsberg and Sedin on first. I think i'm gonna give a shot like that.

I lost my first 2 games and i'm 2-2-1 at the moment.

I’m in the 2009/10 season with the Bruins, and we’re the defending Stanley Cup champions. The key to the 2009 championship was getting Joe T. back to Boston when he hit unrestricted free agency; it looked like there were a lot of places he’d rather go (both the Rangers and the Wings had their board veto the signing), but back he came. After an Art Ross, a Hart, and a Conn Smythe (and the plus-minus award, in case someone cares), I don’t think he has any regrets. The other award winners in the team were Vezina-winning goalie Hannu Toivonen (who had an awesome season; he led the league in shutouts and GAA, was near the top in save percentage, and had an average rating around 8.50) and coach John Tortorella, who won the Jack Adams (and yes, we also got the President’s Trophy).

The 2009 play-offs were a bit strange: the top 3 teams in the West all got eliminated in the first round, and the eventual West champions were the 6th-seed Kings. The moral final of the season was the East championship series, in which my Bruins defeated the Sabres in 7 tense, hard-fought games; the Kings managed to take the 4th and deciding Cup final game into double overtime, but they had no chance in the first three.

As of mid-November 2009, the team looks like this:

1. Phil Kessel - Joe Thornton - Bobby Ryan // Brad Stuart - Zdeno Chara
2. Angelo Esposito - Patrice Bergeron - Anthony Stewart // Denis Kulyash - Shaone Morrisonn
3. Kaspar Daugavins - Aaron Marvin - Jim Craig (= Travis Zajac) // Frank Gordon (= Matt Lashoff) - Mitch Maunu/Matt Smaby
4. Blair Betts/Ryan Hollweg/Peter Bilodeau/Maxime Talbot - Georges Laraque

GK: Hannu Toivonen - Konstantin Barulin

This is a younger team than the cup-winning one; Brad Boyes was the 2nd-line RW, but he and his 3-million-dollar salary had to go, because Kessel and Ryan were hitting the end of their rookie contracts and they wanted (and deserved) a raise. Erik Cole was playing LW on the 2nd line in the cup-winning team, and he even agreed to take a small pay cut to stay in Boston. However, he had a very poor start to the season, and the fool GM from Hell realized that a) some additional cap room would be nice, b) Cole has a tendency to lose at least 20 games each season, and c) the Coyotes were using Peter Mueller as a 4th-line center with no special teams duty, and they didn’t think he was all that hot a prospect. Maxime Ouellet, who had developed into a dependable second-string goalie, was also gone the second Barulin (the runner-up for the AHL goalie award in 2008/09) agreed to a cheap 2-year contract extension. Defenseman Mark Stuart was also dealt as a pre-emptive move – his contract would have been up in the 2010 off-season, and he was already making a million a season.

In the minors, the best prospects are Mike Neal, Peter Mueller, Kirill Tulupov, and Justin Pogge (of these, Pogge may never amount to much but the others look terrific); I also have 7 picks in the first 3 rounds in the 2010 draft.

I’m only in mid-November in 2009, and the cup defense isn’t going quite as planned. We’re 4th in the East, so the team isn’t playing badly, but it’s nothing like the dominant force it was last spring when everyone seemed to get hot at once. Kessel is now scoring like there’s no tomorrow (he had an 18-game point streak from the start of the season), but nobody else is playing exceptionally well. We’re only 20 games into the season, and Thornton has already missed 3 games due to suspension; he’s getting a point per game, but I’m expecting more. Bergeron is doing that too and he isn’t playing with Kessel and Ryan, so a little shake-up may be in order. In goal, Toivonen is struggling; his GAA is above 3, save percentage around .890, and his average rating is nearly one full number worse than last season. Barulin’s numbers are actually better, so I’m contemplating giving Toivonen a couple of nights off to see if that helps him find his game.

After a rough four seasons, first two didn't make the playoffs, third was swept in first round, fourth won division but lost in first round, my Canadiens franchise is going strong in season five.

I'm just finishing up December 2011, and I've been in the top five overall for three months now including a week at number one. I let the coach handle games, and am really impressed (This is the farthest I've gone with a franchise) with the reality I faced in having a lacklustre team where I've had to work towards the future and hope it pays off. Here is my current roster with ages in parenthese:

G
--
1: Miikka Kiprusoff (35) 2: Al Montoya (26)
Hot Prospect: Anthony Peters (20, third on depth chart)

D
--
1: V. Voinov (21) 2: A. Markov (33) 3: A. Dubinin (22)
4: A. Pietrangelo (21) 5: T. Laakso (24) 6: M. Ljunggren (36)
Hot Prospect: Jared Cowen (20, already second on my depth chart!)

LW
--
1: M. Bell (31) 2: J. Jokinen (28) 3: J. Slater (29) 4: M. Grabovsky (27)
Hot Prospect: Bobby Cole (19, fourth on LW depth chart ahead of Grabovsky)

C
--
1: P. Forsberg (38) 2: J. Spezza (28) 3: P. Lindgren (24) 4: A. Esposito (22)
Hot Prospect: Ben Maxwell (23, fifth on depth chart and destroying the AHL)

RW
--
1: M. Hossa (32) 2: G. Latendresse (24) 3: J. Tootoo (28) 4: M. Lehtonen (24)
Hot Prospect: Evgeni Dadonov (22, fifth on depth chart)

I actually have two careers going (had to pass the time until I could purchase the full version somehow).

In my first one, I'm starting April in year one with the Chicago Hounds in the UHL. I'm currently in 2nd place and have locked up a spot in the playoffs. My only problem is my starting RW just got injured for 3 months and I can't put him on IR :dunno:. I have a player who was on my team earlier, but was cut, and he's agreed to a contract, but my player salary is currently 341K. The cap is 345K and my budget is only 330K, so I can't sign the backup unless I put the injured player on IR ](*,). Maybe I'll just sign him and be over the cap until I get told to dump salary.

In the other franchise, I took a job with the Saskatoon Blades in December of the first franchise I started in Chicago. I took over with the Blades in 5th place and guided them to a plus .500 record the rest of the season and a spot in the WHL playoffs. We lost in the East Conference Semis. Just starting year two and was undefeated in pre-season play.

I've been taking a short break from my Bruins blog team and trying out the Vancouver Giants. I've never played outside of the NHL (and using the AHL affiliate as a puppet), so it's quite a new experience for me. It's interesting because you have to constantly keep your team fresh and always have an eye towards the future. Of course, it's taken a while for me to adjust to how you evaluate talent in the WHL. The scouts seem to compare every player to one of a half dozen different NHLers. So that doesn't really help. In my first season I made the playoffs, third in my division. I made it through a couple playoffs rounds, losing in the round before the Presidents Cup. Everett ended up going on to win it. I just ran my first midget draft. We'll see how that turns out. I've also lost a handful of my best players to the NHL (plus they would've been overagers). I'm going to play them some more this week and then next week I'll go back to my Bruins team. Overall, it's been an interesting change of pace.

The WHL is so much more difficult to manage than the OHL and QMJHL.

I've played all three and the bantam draft for WHL where you draft 14 year olds who aren't eligible for 2 years is kinda problematic.

A lot less players actually make the NHL too so you are stuck with useless overaged players you can't trade for a 15th... :-(

So the WHL doesn't allow you to play the 14 year olds but the OHL and QMJHL do? I know you're only allowed so many young players and so many overagers in your lineup at a time in WHL. I didn't know it was only 16 year olds and not 15 year olds. Hmmm. I might have to give a team in one of the other junior leagues a shot if they allow you to use the younger players.

The 15 year olds can play, not the 14 year olds.

I think I just worded it poorly. :dunno:

In the OHL you can't even draft 14 year olds.

15's can play wih a full visor and a neckguard...Not marking them as a target or anything eh? Pooor kids. So in EHM Make sure you target these kids in the WHL and baptise them with stick marks on their cage.
