Flooded with news items

Post by Danny »

Hi folks, it's me with a ridiculous problem again :D

So I'm playing in the NHL, have a fair amount of good scouts and am obviously scouting the most interesting European hockey markets as well as the NHL drafts and some junior leagues in North America. The problem I'm experiencing is that now my scouts are reporting a ton of players and it's cluttering up my news item screen, it seems like I'm not able to filter those scout report news items either. Sure I could select a different category at the top of the news screen but I'd have to go through every category every day manually if I wanted to filter the scout reports out. I'm not really interested in them, I prefer to check them just before a draft, or when I want to trade a prospect and check his potential before acquiring him or getting rid of him. Any advice ?

I am sure there is something on this somewhere..but you can filter the reports.

For scout reports..select the one that just requests occasional updates when you assign the scout...not the ones with just over a ccertain # of stars.

Yeah, choose recaps and then you can go into the scouting and select which ones you want to add to your shortlist.

Another thing to keep in mind is that it's good to clear your shortlist after each season. You might still have a ton of news items coming from guys who have already been drafted by other teams.

Thanks for the advice. No I clear my shortlist quite often. Could you please elaborate a bit on
"For scout reports..select the one that just requests occasional updates when you assign the scout...not the ones with just over a ccertain # of stars."

and

"Yeah, choose recaps and then you can go into the scouting and select which ones you want to add to your shortlist"

?

I thought I had already tried every option that's on the scout assignment screen without success. Unfortunately I'm stuck at work for another couple of hours so I can't test it.

When you assign a scout to an area, to reduce the number of news items, got to the "recommendation updates" section and choose either 'only recap of findings' or 'no recommendation updates'.

I always choose 'no recommendation updates'. What happens is the scout goes about his business scouting players, and you get a news item when he starts, and ends his search. 'Only recap findings' will give you occasional updates, I'm not sure how often though.

Setting the scout to "recommend 5 star players only" will also reduce the news item clutter dramatically. There just aren't all that many 5-star guys.

Yeah I was aware of that but when scouting the draft I want as many reports as possible, just not as news items :)

Even if you have only recommend 5 star players only, they will still report on the lesser players, they just don't recommend them to you in a news item, so that won't affect the # of scouting reports you get, just the # of news items.
