I do hate cheaters. But we do not yet know what it was he took. Could be anything. however, as a player I have never thought much of Sean Hill. Decent player, but has been seen to do Brad May like cheapshots.
I will reserve judgement until we know what he got busted for. If it was Rhoids. Dude gets anything and everything he deserves and his career is likely over.
I saw the topic and thought "What the Dickens?!?!" I hate to see this kind of thing. I hate to see guys get bad reps for taking cold medicine and I hate to see guys who use performance-enhancers to cheat. There's nothing good about this, no matter how you look at it.
20 games is an awfully long time...has Hill been disciplined for this before?
20 games is the first time offender suspension for the NHL-NHLPA drug policy. Anything on a list of banned substances the NHL and PA have. 60 games for 2nd offense, and permanent ban (2 years later can apply for reentry) for third offense. This was done..so the NHL and PA could make a policy public at the time of the baseball-senate hearings in the USA. To show a strong stance compared to the other sports. I agree it should be tough and am happy about it.
That being said...although it could be any of the banned substances in the NHL --the NHL is way less restrictive, than say the Olympics (Berard, Theodore) so it is likely not anything good.
It has been said that the NHL's banned drugs are so limited...that anyone who fails an NHL drug test is a complete tool...So would Mr. Hill please step up into toolville? We shall see.
Bill Daly to be on TSN in moments....during 1st intermission Buf-NYI.
And shocking...Daly is not saying anything, except explaining the process of test...b test...appeal...appeal denied. Oh well...some day we shall know.
And here is the inevitable....TSN questionning whether Hill should have played in the games at the end of the year. The conspiracy against Montreal and Toronto in the NHL??? HAHAHAHAHAAHAH now that is funny. A conspiracy against Montreal and Toronto making the playoffs,...starring the NHL superstar, and super druggie Sean Hill..Oh for crying out loud.
Next thing you know it will be a conspiracy against the Rangers...by the NHL. Right.
Note: I know...not a conspiracy...but to suggest that Sean Hill caused the Leafs to get waxed by NYI and caused the Devils to lose to the Isles in a shootout...causing the Leafs and Habs to miss the playoffs is almost akin to saying...
"Dany Sabourin's win against (whoever he beat) was the reason the Vancouver Canucks won the Northwest Division title. Christ I hate TSN sometimes.
Wow, 20 games is like 2-3 months of the regular season. Guy in the English Premier League got 2 years for a first offence and it wasn't for a performance enhancing substance.
Very different standards between the two leagues.
PS> Not saying which I think is better, just highlighting the difference
Yep. Huge difference. The 4 leagues over here (MLB,NHL,NFL,NBA) just have not dealt well with the drugs issues. At least now football, baseball and hockey seem to be paying at least some attention. Some day...I hope they get it right.
I don't follow soccer all that much, but haven't La Liga and Serie A given fairly light penalties (= a couple of months) for this in the not-so-distant past?
Well, what the spanish soccer league respects, yes, there have been three cases of doping more or less recently:
The first was Aguirretxu, the second Gurpegui and the third Giovanella (who has retired after that).
In all three cases the ban was two years at least and in all three cases it was their first offense. If they play again and get caught again its over with playing soccer in the spanish soccer federation, so I think its not that light...
There have been cases for example in baseball where certain elements/contents of protein drinks/supplements contained banned substances and the players didn't really know until it showed up in a failed test. There are a lot of things you can buy off the shelf here in the States that would get you fined/suspended for taking.
So while people will assume once they hear "performance enhancing substance" steroids that may not be the case.
