I have searched for answers to my inquieries, but have still remained confused.
As I am quite new to the game and still don't understand exactly all the intricacies of the NHL, I have a few questions which I hope you could answer:
1. When does a player become eligible for waivers?
2. How about for the re-entry waivers?
3. I am currently stuck with 2 of my best prospects, at their farm teams, but suddenly eligible for waivers and re-entry waivers. So now if I want to recall them I will most likely lose them to other teams and still count half of their salaries to my cap. Is there anything I can do to avoid that? Or do I have to trade them away now?
Thanks a lot.

Point 1: If you find the player you want to send on waivers, go on his info, and it will say, example: 24 days since last cleared waivers, players will need to clear waivers again should they spend more than 30 days with that team (i believe), also, if a player has played more than 40 games in a season, it will count as a season accrued (played), which means if you want to send them down they will need to clear waivers.
Point number 3: I have never had this, i hav had players in my affiliate, and i was able to call them up for nothin, but i have been able to send them back down, i tohught re-entry waivers only applied if they had been put on waivers before, have you done this?

To make clear the situation:
I'm with the Kings, ready to begin season 3. The players in question are Pushkarev and O'Sullivan. For the first 2 seasons they have not been on waivers. I had them on the roster for some games (perhaps more than 40) and towards the end of the season 2 I sent them back to the affiliate club with no problems. Now at the beggining of October I noticed that they are both eligible for waivers and re-entry waivers. If I try to call back one of them, he must clear waivers.
I have another 3 players on my affiliate club who have become eligible for waivers, but not for re-entry waivers and that is alright.
So, when do players become eligible for re-entry waivers?
Is there a way to keep the 2 prospects?

During the offseason it is highly reccomended you bring up your prospects from the farm. Then the waiver issue not there most times. Summer is the season to bring guys up.
If up and want to send down to farm..training camp provides some leeway there. You can send down without waiving up til about September 17 or so I believe. Not 100% on that one.
Anyway...prospects like O'Sullivan will definitely be taken on reentry waivers away from you. You will need to wait til next season to bring a guy like that up if you need to be on reentry. Sorry...but that is the way it is.
Age matters...seasons in AHL matter, NHL experience matters. After 2 years...I make sure this type of player makes my team..cause I know I will lose him on waivers. If he can't make it...traded he is.
Even during the massive t-camp waiver period O'Sullivan and Pushkarev will be taken. Leave on the farm or deal em.

I traded O'Sullivan to the Ducks and got Bobby Ryan (I gave up picks and another player, also). The irony is that he went straight to their farm team so probably they have to put him thru' re-entry waivers sometime. Who knows, I might get him back...
And I also think Ryan is a good player to have in return (plus he is still exempt from waivers).
