NCAA Prospect Question

Post by Iceman90 »

Greetings all.

I know that a team's prospects need to be resigned 2 years after they are drafted, or their rights are lost. Anyways, it's May 3rd and I just got the notice in my game news that I need to resign 3 of my prospects before their rights are lost. Anyways, I was expecting to get 5 notices, as I have 2 guys who are playing NCAA but are drafted the same year.

Is the rule different for NCAA players?

I think NCAA players right last for 4 years. I'm sure someone here can give you a for sure answer though.

You are correct, Joe. US College player rights are good for 4 years. I have heard, though, that the game doesn't reflect this and college and european players rights are with the drafting team indefinately. I haven't been that far into a career yet so I don't know if that is true or not.

I'm not sure about the game, but yes, a player drafted before he gets to college can play 4 years and have his rights retained by the NHL club.

I have lost rights to college players in the game - but it takes longer than 2 years - I don't remember how long, but I would assume that it is 4 years as in real life.

Well, I lost the rights to Colorado College's Billy Sweatt after two years. :-?
But I did get to keep the rights to Nick Petrecki, a fellow 2007 draftee (signed him in 2010).
