Trophy Robbery

Post by Systemfel »

darn it!

The trophies in my Avs game were just handed out and I was robbed like CRAZY.

Paul Stastny, 85 pts in 80 games with a 8.33 average grade, was the runner-up to the 74-point Anze Kopitar who had a 7.76 average grade.

Brad Richards, 80 points in as many games got the Lady Byng, while Joe Sakic, 120 points in 80 games, wasn't even in the top-3.

Sakic was also the second-highest scorer, only two points behind Marty St. Louis, and had the second-highest average grade in the league with his 8.87. Scott Niedermayer, 70 points and a 8.17 average grade got the Hart while Joe was snubbed from the top-3 once again.

[/end rant]

Anyone else been robbed like this?

Edit: This is nuts. Sakic excluded from both All-Star Teams!

As Minstrel said sometime ago about a similar post:
Minstrel wrote:I'd really rather not have these negative SI Boards type threads here. It's a complex game, it will never be perfect. But discussing only the negatives of the game gives people the impression that the game sucks, which it doesn't. We like to promote the game not tear it down by pointng out one example of where it screwed up when it rightfully gave the trophy to Madden and runner-up'd Lehtinen both of whom have won the award before. See what I mean? So this thread can only go in a negative direction and we don't want to have that hovering negativity about the game here so I'm going to close this thread.

I'm of course not saying you can only say glowing things about the game, but starting a thread saying "We all know that there are problems with who wins awards." promotes a negative view of the game. It could make people think that all the awards given out by the game every time are totally wrong and that that is common knowledge and undisputable truth. Well even in your own example it did give the award to the right person didn't it?

So if two other people have some 3rd place nominations they think are bad they post here too but that doesn't say anything about the thousands of correct logical decisions for awards the game did make over that time from users who haven't seen any problems in their games so don't chip in to a negative thread.

So framing it in a way that makes it sound like every person nominated for all of the 100+ awards are broken works against us as a site as we are here to support the game. If people get turned off to the game they get turned off to TBL and we don't want that happening.

I hope you understand what I'm getting at here.
But I know that can be frustrating, but that's only a game afterall

Lady Byng Trophy, is presented each year to the National Hockey League hockey player voted to have shown the best sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct combined with performance in play. Maybe Sakic had alot more minutes in the box than Richards. :dunno:

Shawn Horcoff won the Art Ross with 111 points. His average rating was 9.12. Was he even a Hart nominee? Nope...

Was he by far the best player on his team or did he have a good supporting cast. The Hart should go to a player who carries his team almost single handedly rather than the best player ie Most Valuable Player not Best Player

I have always seen that most players tend to get somewhat passed up when it comes to the trophies at the end of the season.

Unless of course they get the trophy based on their stats completely.

I myself have had plenty of people not win awards. Even though I know that they full and well deserved it, you know?

All in all, just keep playing the game and try to enjoy it. You might lose and win some stuff, but no reason to stop playing.

Thomas Pock won the Norris Trophy while he spent his entire season as a left wing.

Sure it's easier to get the amount of points he did as a LW,but since he's a defensemen, he got the trophy.

I've had Alex Tanguay scoring 47 points in the playoffs and lost the Conn Smyth to Martin St. Louis who had 31! Btw, I lost in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals. I could have accepted it if St. Louis had been outstanding in the final series but he wasn't... I think he had 5-6 points while Tanguay had 12! But if you doesn't win, you can't get the Conn Smyth...

Btw, have anybody had a defenseman winning the Conn Smyth? During my 20+ season with different saves I have never seen it happen...

I had Drew Stafford win AHL player of the month just days after being demoted had 1G 4A in 3 games, meanwhile Dylan Hunter won rookie of the month (a award Stafford is also eligible for) with 30 points during the Month.

Also saw a recently demoted player play in the AHL all-star game while still on waivers, without skating an AHL game.
