Call up during olympics

Post by mac-the-mouth »

I just reached the Olympic break during year 3 in the game and with a few roster spots opened up due to some of my players off defending their respective country's honor, I decided to call up some prospects from the minors just to give them 2 weeks of practice time with the big club.

Has anyone else done this and do you think it will help development or is it just better leaving them play down in the AHL? I figured a 2 week stint practicing with my coaches might give them a little boost.

I never really bother bringing them up but I do suggest you check on the waiver eligibility of any players you decide to bring up. You don't want to be stuck either keeping the guy on your NHL roster or waiving him.

Oh yeah, i made sure of the waiver eligibility beforehand. I only called up a couple of my promising young prospects just to see if it would affect anything.

I doubt 2 weeks will really have an impact. At a young age, what the kids need most is playing time, not practice time. So i think than letting them playing AHL games would be better than 2 weeks of NHL practice. May be wrong though :-k

I agree with what Shadd said. Plus, you could be disrupting their rhythm by taking them off the team, and then sending them right back a couple weeks later.
