And how many points in the playoffs?...
Btw, even if he doesn't perform well in Carolina, he will a spot for just half his cap hit. Maybe still too much bucks according to his most recent productions, but it might worth a gamble. And in case he produces like he used to do in Boston, it would be nothing less than a huge steal. But obviously, i doubt he will perform that well again.
So it's potentially a good move for the Canes IMO. And at least not a highly stupid one.

Systemfel always has the counterpoint.
And if anyone thinks he is gonna do anything in Carolina...maybe they can provide some justification for their view. I have plenty that says he won't...Montreal, Chicago...and yeah I include Edmonton because even there he was so in and out and so inconsistent.
It is sad players like him and Kovalev rely so much on their skill sets and refuse to give 100% all the time. Occasionally, for a game or two they show some heart..then they get right back to being lazy again.
Sorry, but you gotta hate the guys who have all the skill in the world, and refuse to show it each and every time out. Guys like Alex Burrows, Adam Burish, Dallas Drake (who is an ahole), Milan Lucic, Byron Ritchie, Tim Taylor...would kill for that kind of skill, and work their butts off for less than 1/2 the cash. Samsonov is a snot nosed little dufus. Hate that kind of player. Thinks he is entitled to everything and does not have to work to get it.
Anyway, enough from me on this. Sergei sucks. Period. Always has, despite his point totals in any city. Points are not the whole game. Wonder how many times he cost his team in Edmonton or Boston? I dunno, but I bet $1000 it was more times than he got points or did good things to make up for it. Useless piece of trash.

I mostly agree with you batdad, and hate that kind of guys too. But with the long-term injury of Williams, the Canes were in a urgent need. Samsonov will probably don't bring all what's needed on the table, but he didn't cost anything from a trade point of view, and only half his salary counts toward Canes cap. And once Williams returns, they should simply waive Samsonov and let his lazy ass sit in the AHL.
So globaly i don't see it as a really bad move. It would have been horrible if they traded for Samsonov, but picking him on re-entry waivers to replace an injured guy is not that bad.
And well, i think he has what it takes to perform on the 4th line
Maybe not in the NHL though...

SHocking...JFJ got fired. Such a shock. Let the selling begin. How the hell is Fletcher going to handle this? Think the Wings will send him Chelios for Sundin? Cause we all know Cliff hates prospects and picks. So he should handle this situation real well.
Antropov, Wellwood and Steen for who? I know...Marchant.
And then finally just to top things off:
Tlusty, Tucker and Kaberle for Fedorov, Foote and Peca.

I don't think Sundin would be happy playing 3rd line minutes behind Dats & Z. I would be widdled if they pulled the trigger on a trade like that and steal the twins thunder this season.batdad wrote:Think the Wings will send him Chelios for Sundin?
Now the Jackets could seriously use a center like Sundin, but not Tucker. They are stocked at the wings. Could you imagine the damage Nash could do with a decent #1 center? Or, put Zherdev on the other side as the playmaker and let Nsh & Sundin shoot, shoot, shoot!batdad wrote:Tlusty, Tucker and Kaberle for Fedorov, Foote and Peca.

I wasn't serious either. THN's story on it had Fletcher conceeding that with the cap, drafting took on a huge importance. So I wouldn't look for him to trade away too much young talent. It was kind of understated that one or more of McCabe, Kubina, and Kaberle are the main trade bait. When asked about the NTCs, he replied "there are ways around these things". But all in all, Sundin is their best bait, but the one they would least like to move unless things really go into the crapper. I would like to see Columbus pick up a bona fides #1 center, but one a little younger with more of a career ahead of him. Although, Sundin (if he could be signed for another 2-3 years) might give Fritsche, Brule or Brassard enough time to fill the role. I would like it better if all three were back in Syracuse developing rather than in the NHL being stunted. JMHO.

Watching on TSN.ca for trade rumors, i've seen one that i really don't believe in. Tanguay out of Calgary (nothing wrong with that, he doesn't perform as expected) for a true n°1 center (probably the main need for Calgary). The names rumored to come are Olli Jokinen (Iron Mike worked with him when he was in Florida) and Mats Sundin... Although i'd really like it, i seriously doubt it will occur. Tanguay is not doing bad at all, but clearly doesn't produce enough to deserve his 5M$ paycheck. However, Sutter is usually pretty good on the trade market, so let's see what he'll pull out of his hat...

I don't see Huselius moving. He's playing pretty well with Iggy. In fact, it's on Iggy's demand that Huselius was put on the top line instead of Tanguay, and since, the Flames are winning more. So i really don't see him moving for now.
Tanguay? I don't know what to think about him. He has some nice talent, but simply 'forget' to show it most of the time. Not especially a lazy guy, but he just seem to wait for a declic... that he'll probably never have in Calgary. And 5M$ is way too much on the second line, so bye bye Mr. Tanguay.
Then if the Flames can bring in a real n°1 center who works well with Iggy and bring more stability in the defensive zone, they could go very far... But that's just "ifs" for now on... Will be fixed in less than a month...

Best wishes to Richard Zednik and his family. That was absolutely gruesome. Twice Buffalo fans have seen this type of horror now. NOt something I would ever ever wish on anyone. At least Richard seems to be doing okay.
Now...maybe just maybe a neckguard would have helped this? Maybe it should not just be kids wearing them? I dunno.

Oddly enough, one of the linesmen during the Flyers-Rangers game got sliced by a skate, too. One of the Rangers tried hitting a Flyer into the boards right where the linesman was... the Flyer's skate came way up from behind as he fell forward, and the blade got the linesman's face.batdad wrote:Best wishes to Richard Zednik and his family. Didn't look minor, either. Blood was immediately draining from his face when he went down, and then while he was skating around to try and break up all the ensuing fights.

Oh my god!!
I just saw it on spanish TV (and that means something bad....sadly they show hockey only when a big fight happens or when something like this occurs) and it was impressive...
Get well soon Richard!!!
Well, I know a lot of people think different, but shouldnt be wearing neckguards and visors be made mandatory by the league??
...just asking...

Never will be. The guys are adults and fully capable of making their own decisions. My guess...eventually a visor rule like the helmet rule will come into play where it will be phased out and vets do not have to wear them. We will have a Craig McTavish of visors too.
But neckguards--another story. Not sure you will ever see them. They are restricting, and very uncomfortable for the guys. Everyone (even kids) try to get away without em.
USA Hockey does not even have a neckgaurd rule for kids. Hockey Canada does. But USA just says they "should" wear them.

Zednik did really well to make it back to bench skating, and the team doctor could well have saved his life, but that was pretty darn bad. How the hell did Jokinen get his skate that high!?
We have to wear neck guards up until 18, but thinkin of things like this, i know its very rare, but i may carry on wearing them, maybe there should be a market for a neck guard like goalies have, so it isnt uncomfortable? Who knows, could be millions in it
