Hi all. I've played this game for a while now but have recently started a new season after my roster got to be kind of rediculous... which is the reason for my post. Is there any way at all to turn down the trades in the game or at least turn up the game trade difficulty? Almost every day there are some crazy trades happening around the league to the point where a roster is almost unrecognizable at the end of the season.
Another thing I would love would be some gameplay rules created by someone here so I can follow those and not be tempted to pick up brendan shanahan off waivers or sign lecavalier, sakic, jack johnson and numerous others at the end of the season when they become UFA's.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Need help with realism...

For a good challenge, try the "Hide Attributes File" in the downloads section. It will allow you to play without being able to see player attributes, and you'll rely solely on your scouts opinions of your players.
As for rules on how to play, I remember there was some discussion about it somewhere, but I can't remember which thread...

1. I too would (biased-ly) suggest the hidden attributes method. It's certainly not eye-candy, but the fun is unmatched, in my opinion.
2. As for the rest of your questions, I don't think there's any need for special rules. Some simple self-discipline and 'realism awareness' should be all you need to avoid taking advantage of any of the game's loop-holes.

Yeah, it's still there in the pre-game options.archibalduk wrote:Does EHM still have the "use real name" option when starting a new game? I'm sure it is still there (I've never used it) so that could help make things a little more challenging.
Though, I find it to be quite hokey. It basically gives an alias to each player. So if you know anyone beyond just their name, you won't be fooled by this option's effects.

Yes, it does still have the "use real name" option when you start a new game. You're right, that would make things more difficult if you didn't have name recognition. If you really wanted to make things hard on yourself, you could combine not using real player names along with the hidden attribute bit. Then you would totally be working off of what your scouts tell you and what you see in the game.
Another option is to use a team in a league you are not used to. That makes things a little harder. I know when I play Canadian Junior teams, I'm usually only familiar with one or two players per team. Plus the attribute ranges are different than what I'm used to (the NHL).
As for keeping trades realistic... the only real option is to exhibit self-control. Don't make those crazy trades. The computer might go for them but you don't have to agree to them. You can't control what the other teams do but you can control your own.
