Future Projects?

Post by Sbufkle »

Although the WHA mod will take a while< I normally like to have another idea for what I would be doing after my current work is done.

I have already committed to finishing facepack for 1980 mod, but thats more or less scannign cards and chopping them up, I wouldnt mind thinking beyond that even.

Now, I would like maybe even if peopel need help with a mod to help out. Although Id prefer graphcis I am getting experinece with the data facit for EHM.

I was trying to think of something different, like NHA mod from turn of the century or even an RHI mod. In both cases you woudl have tottally new players and the potential of something really different... but limited data on both ends.

Anyhow.. anyone want to toss soem ideas around or want soem help when Ill be free more in say 2-3 months?

I would think another historical mod might be nice. Even if it was an NHL mod that's not so far back in past. What about a mod to take us back to the last time the league expanded? I can't remember exactly but Nashville, Atlanta, Columbus, Minnesota. I think they added 2 at a time. How about the first season that those teams participated in the league? That way you wouldn't have to worry about filling out extra teams. The only problem I can see is that it might be a HUGE project if you really want to do it right. Even though we'd be using the default starting year (2006) in EHM, players' and non-players' birthdates would have to be adjusted, players attributes re-rated, and so on. Like I said, it would be huge but it could be interesting. Plus, it would be great for challenges. Imagine a challenge when we were starting with an expansion team? They'd have a terrible starting roster and we'd have to really build the team. This would be awesome!

I'd certainly be interested in something like rosters from the mid-to-late 90's. IIRC, Nashville came one year, then Atlanta, and then a couple of seasons later Columbus and Minnesota were introduced.

As for birthdates, I suggested to Neil (aka mne2, the author of the PreGame Editor) that the ability to increase/reduce every players' year of birth at the touch of a button would be a useful feature. He said he'd look into it so it might be worth keeping an eye on any developments there (his website is www.eastside-uk.co.uk ).

That would be a great asset to modding if mne2 could incorporate that into his editor. Just think how much easier that would make a project like the one I suggested? WOW! Anyhow, if something like that could happen, I'd like to see a mod for the year Columbus and Minnesota were introduced. We could really have some fun with a challenge using that.

I thought about doing a mod set in the early 90s (maybe 92-93 when the Senators and Lightning joined?) similar to my 79-80 mod. But I couldn't get myself motivated to do it so far. Maybe in the summer when I need some form of hockey fix :D

If somehow, that the boys at EHM UK they could somehow export all the data like teams palyers ect in a format where it could be manipulate3d in excel then reimported, it would make modding STUPIDLY easy.

A program is all arrays of data, and becuase the data can be pulled out to the EHM editor, I feel theres no reason why it cant be exported into excel, or notepad then excel by delimitation ect. In all my modidng and professional game making, data of this type has always been able to be torn out. ESPECIALLY becasue its not hard coded to main exe and alreayd being modded!

If any of you have tried to change a city with EHM editor and have to go through hundreds before you fins it.. the idea of export, open, input dats, save, import is much easier.

Any of you guys have pull witht he big dogs at EHM UK where such a request might be taken more seriously?

I know Archi has spoken mne2 (the guy who made the pre-game editor) about some changes he'd like to see made. He pops in here once in a while too. Have you tried contacting him (either via PM here or maybe through Eastside UK?), telling him about your mod experience and what you'd like to do? I really think top notch mods are going to be the way we keep this game alive.

one idea i have is maybe for a fictional mod. with OOTP i play in a fictional Lord of the Rings baseball league. I think it would make an interesting hockey mod. A orcish enforcer playing with elvish goal score. it would take some work, but it would be fun. MEHL Middle Earth Hockey League. It would kinda be fun to have one of the Junior leagues to be the MHL - Mordor Hockey league. I would have to learn more about modding EHM07.

I really wish they gave it the options OOTP8 has

That's a darn interesting idea. It would make it so much easier to work on a project/addon - using the Editor involves a lot of navigating between screens and clicking, whereas using Excel would be simply involve tabbing and little, if any, navigating. Plus, multiple users could work on a project at the same time and then collate their data into one. 8-)

I've posted over at the SI Games forum to tell them of you idea. Here's the link: LINK

I've tried posting over at the Eastside UK Forums before but have run into problems with the site (it wouldn't post my messages).
