I have this one goalie that is a retread goalie (consistancy 16) who came with 3 positioning. I had him up to 5 positioning, and now he went back to 3, in the same year. What the Dickens?
He's been my backup for a year, and he's had to play 34 regular season games cause my regular goalie got injured. Then he got injured, and when he came back his positioning was down to 3 again.
He's still young, so it ain;t from age.
Any ideas anyone?

What are you doing to him with practice? How long was he injured? I had Kulyash who's 26, he went out for two weeks and lost a couple points off stickhandling almost as soon as he got hurt. It should come back around once he gets practicing and playing. Although having a 23 year old riding the bench isn't typically good for his development...

He was injured for about 10 days 2 weeks, can't remember exactly. His practice is standard intense goaltending, medium everything else.dybbuk wrote:What are you doing to him with practice? He ended up playing 34 regular season games and playoffs till the conference finals where I got beat. It was about halfway through his 34 games he got injured and the positioning points went down. They have no come back. Even into the next season.
I sent him back to my AHL team for now.

Positioning is important for every player, but yes, it is critical for goalies. Reason is simple: if you're not in the right position at the right moment, you're useless and pretty much can't do anything.
If a forward is out of position defensively, it generally means the opposition will enter the zone more easily. If it's a defenseman, it gives a better opportunity for a shoot. But when the goalie is out of position, he just can't make the save and it ends up being a goal.
A player with a bad positioning means that you can totally forget him defensively. So when it comes to your very last defensive presence (ie your goalie), you know you're in trouble.
