Problems with editor and TBL's database

Post by gamblor »

It seems every time I want to make some changes to the 1.5 TBL database it crashes on cretin dates during a season which has been posted before here. I have re-started a new game a few times with the same problem happening on different dates so if anybody knows the editor well could you please let me know what I can and can not do with it so I don't have to keep re-starting the game over and over again.

Here are the changes I sometimes do with the editor before I start a game.

Changing player rates (I don't see how this could be a problem)

Changing NHL contracts (just reducing the ones that are over four years or more since the sim usually only signs four max)

Changing team names (not very much just a few here and there)

Changing junior player contracts (I play with the WHL mostly and have been assigning players from US college hockey back to the CHL league that they where originally drafted. I could understand this being a problem if I am not doing the editing right on these players)

That’s basically all I do with the pre-game editor. Since the UK site is gone I thought I would ask somebody here who knows the editor well and can help me out with it. If something’s don't sound clear I will explain them better.

Thxs,

Changing team names has been known to have an unbalancing effect on the game. But these errors usually occur while starting a new game, not mid-game.

That's all I can think of :dunno:

Mne visits these forums every so often so maybe he'd be able to shine some light on the issue.

I agree with Tasku but, as he said, it should only be a problem when starting the game so it sounds like that's not the issue.

I think editing the junior player contracts is the most likely source of the problem. If possible, you could check each one you've done. I haven't had any experience of editing junior player contracts, but are there any age or roster limits that may be causing problems?

Not that I know of but then again I didn't code the game. The players I edited are between the ages of 16 to 20 since I believe is the limit for the CHL.

I only moved one player back to their drafted team playing in US college hockey like Okposo to Everett, Van Riemsdyk to Brampton and Perron to Lewiston and any other top prospect back to the CHL. I also altered their rates more since they are a little low for me. Yes! Mne is the guy I need to speak to about this problem if one of you can get a hold of him for me or can let me know how to contact him would help.

ok I found the problem it was the editing NHL contracts that was making the game crash in November 18th 2006. I edit the others and left out touching the NHL contracts and did a few tests. Simmed on vacation and both time's it passed the date with no crashes. Just wanted to let others know that editing NHL contracts can be a bad thing with the pre-game editor unless I am doing it wrong. Question is how did the person that created the TBL database edit in his updated NHL contracts with out getting problems?

What exactly did you edit in the contracts?

I reduced player’s contracts in the NHL that had been signed longer then 2010. So every player that was signed over the 2010 mark was changed to expire on that year so they could be possible free agents. The simulator sometimes only re-signs players to at least four years max I have seen in my games. I didn't like the way players like DePietro was signed for the rest of his career that’s why I changed them but it messed up the database pretty good so I have learned not to use the editor for that purpose any more..

That doesn't sound like anything that would cause a crash.

That's strange... :-?

Sounds really weird, I have updated thousands of contracts and never encountered any errors.

Yeah I know but it did on November 18th 2006 on my game many times even after I re-installed the database again and tried to edit a second time around with it crashing on the same date. Very weird stuff. I found mne2 on the SI forums and he said he is going to re-create the problem and see what's wrong.
