Standard signing, individual player question thread

This is more useful for those of us that GM our AHL teams, but I've recently taken more interest in my farm clubs, and there are two players I target in every game to add to my minor club.

Cam Keith (Peoria Rivermen) and Chanse Fitzpatrick (Binghamton Senators in default db, now a free agent, and is such in the TBL db). They both seem to perform well above what their attributes suggest, can kill penalties, and get points on any line.

I've signed Chanse Fitzpatrick a couple times and you're right. He's a good AHLer and after a couple seasons he makes a nice 4th (maybe 3rd on a weak team) line character player. I can't say that I've ever signed Cam Keith though. I'll have to keep an eye out for him.

So since we are on good AHLers I have a couple. If he is in it (I don't know why but doesn't show up in all of the games) Carlo Dirienzo is good. Another one is Keetley. They both can easily start in the echl and in a year or 2 are quality starters in the AHL. They generally top out about there though.

I'll give one name too. Dustin Johner is great underrated player. Original DB he is under Panthers contract.
Great playoff player with high vision, workrate and consistency. Can easily reach NHL level.
In my career Johner is in my ECHL team and he's average rating is almost 9.

I just realized I forgot to give Keetley's first name its Matt. He also will have to initially be signed by your AHL club as the Flames still hold his rights.

Keetley is a great pickup if you need organizational goaltending depth. He starts with Medicine Hat (I think), but is always released. I frequently pick him up and either start him in the ECHL or as a backup in the AHL. In most games, he can typically be a reliable starter in the AHL, but if he has even a mediocre season in the American League that first season, the Flames sign him just before the AHL playoffs (so they don't lose his rights). I've lost a couple of Calder Cups because of this

I've actually had him turn into a top notch NHL backup in the mold of Manny Legace (not a bona fide starter, but can play like one for long stretches).

My Asst GM thinks hes great. Scouts like him. Editor says his talent is at 150 which is pretty good. I'm always able to grab him and usually do, but he always seems to underperform. Anyone have any luck with him? What do you do to make him perform?

I do not want to have a separate thread for every player in the league. This really does not fit with prospects or with the tactics ...so I have decided it belongs in the players you want to acquire thread....and have renamed that thread the official player discussion thread...good or bad.

I love how all players are individuals. This post is a tribute to two of my foreign players for Espoo Blues in the Finnish SM-liiga.

Jeff Szwez has been with my team since the start of the game (it's season 2009-10 now), and he has always been a reliable fourth liner. Every time I try to give him more responsibility, he starts getting rating 6's and disappears almost completely from the stats list. As long as I keep him in the fourth line, he will keep getting good ratings and score the occasional point. He plays for a very low wage - I could, and would, if he asked, easily pay him triple his current salary. His current Avg. Rating would've most definately been higher if I wouldn't have promoted him to more ice time to cover for first or second line injuries.

Doug Christiansen on the other hand is an indispensable third line defensive player. I have the third line matched against the opponent first line, and Christiansen is the shining star of my defensive core, and pretty much makes the other two players (Arto Kuki and Pirkka Ahola - a promising 17-year old regen) click as a very formidable defensive line, despite his attributes not looking very defensive. I first tried "Douggie" as a defender, because he can play both positions, but he was terrible at that role!

if you are in the AHL and want a pretty decent Goalie, you should check out Magliarditi. i think with him splitting time with my starting goalie he finished 27-7-2 with a 2.48 GAA

That line gets me about 80 to 100 goals, and about 200 points.

This is so true. I started with Long Beach and Magliarditi lit me up every time I played Las Vegas. So when I was promoted to Houston and in need of a Goalie, I brought him in. Great Decision. He is 13-5-1 right now, 93% SvPct and 2.70 GAA.

Frogren is a good 4-6 dman and pk player, ronnie sundia same thing but he is 38. but he is worth it. most of the other european hidden gems i have also... i like looking in the swedish,finnish,russian and greman leagues for players to bring over..

i normally use the leafs as my nhl team i treade pretty much everyone other than kronwall, antropov,poni,pogge and few of the unsigned talents but everyone else is traded for top talents.... i just won the cup after my first season now it's time to rebuild... i'd say my team right now is a all euro team other than 3 canadians and 1 american

first names would help. frogren is a great 5-6 and can be put on the pk. on my team right now he is in the ahl as i'm trying out my 2 way contracted players. in the ahl he is 1-2 dman and can become a monster of dman. i find when signing euro players 1-2 years in ahl helps alot.

The only one I had success with was Linus Videll. He had a decent 1st season playing mainly 4th line but played on both 1st and 2nd lines as injury cover.

Trouble is after his 1st season he now wants £2.5million and its not going to happen! lol

Why do my scouts and coaches always hate him so much? Yet he has good defensive attributes and always does a good job for me.

Take a look in the editor. His potential is low as well as his offensive role. And that's what a good scout will see. He only plays well because of his 220 lbs and bottom line role.

Ronnie will come over if you offer more money or spice up the deal... if that does not help then just use the editor and move him to your team...

i basically run a european team in the nhl and as i only sign or draft euros... it's a little weird but it spices up the game for me...

kim staal is nice 4th or 3rd liner but he can be a 1st liner in ahl

if you want cheap good 3rd liners europe is the answer but as for 1st and 2nd lines their are few and far between unless you draft them.

Seems like with the newest patch alot of solid prospects get the cut from their respective teams.

IF you shortlist a bunch of prospects early on, you could end up improving your system pretty nicely for free.

I added James Neal, Keegan Dansereau, Ole Kristian Tollefsen, Logan McMillion and Brodie Dupont.

All of which look to be very solid depth players down the road. Tollefsen can become very solid.

I know this doesn't really fit into this thread, but it's a simple question, and doesn't fit in any other.

Is there anyway to see a list of players who have become free agents in a given summer? The game will list info about all the big name UFAs, but for roleplayers, I often don't find out they're available until after they've been signed.

Any tips on finding depth UFAs?
