I don't think that is what this is all about gents. I don't think Calv has that kind of control over the players (could be wrong). I thought it was also a "make-a-player then see what happens" type of thing. If no team has a desire for a players services they are going to sit. I would also think that we are going to start to see some player retirements soon of those who haven't been able to stick at the NHL level. Most players are in their seventh to maybe even tenth pro season. Nothing lasts forever.

Heh. I actually thought my guy should have retired 4 years ago. Christ, he has only played 2 games in 3 years. And I don't complain. I tried once, it did not work. End of story. He gets paid to sit in the stands and watch. Maybe he is a scout?? :-D

You can choose to play it like that, however there are some that see this more as they are acting as that. IE if they are sitting cause the coach is a blockhead they may demand a trade. As far as my guy is concerned, I would guess he priced himself out of the marketplace. The year before he was a point a game center. I was just trying to get his behind off the couch.

I understand your point t-bug, but I'm not certain that Calv has control over the individual players. He would have to have control of many, many teams in different leagues. How would he get a FA to sign with any team? Is there a way to do this? If so, I would love to know that secret. :D

He can jump in and out of control of teams. This could represent player initiative. Like for example, if an NHL player would like to be traded, Calv can jump into the team and put the player on block, and we pretend he requested a move.

Same thing could go with getting signed to a specific team requested by the player - the player offers his services. If it was a bad move for the team, the AI will make sure your player gets no ice time, so you have to look for a team that actually has room for your level of talent.

On another note: I agree with Hyp, it's more fun to let the game play itself and see where you end up. Then again, I understand it can be frustrating if you're a free agent for a whole year, or something like that. I think there's room for both ways - each can play however they want. So far I have had no reason to request anything.

On a completely other subject: I think I made my player a bit too well balanced. He's not great on any aspect, but is equally strong all-around player for SM-liiga atleast. Which is fine, but a bit boring. I should've made him either a good defensive forward or a sniper, not a bit of both.

Oh well, maybe next time. ;)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't this entail creating a GM and effectively booting that team's GM? And once Calv has done whatever needed doing and "jumps out" doesn't that leave that team in the lerch sans GM and upset the overall balance of the game?

I'm not trying to be a nit-picky pain. It's Calv's game and he can run it anyway he would like, I'm just curious as to how he is choosing to run the the game or if there are way of doing things that I haven't figured out yet.

Yes, I think that's how it's done.

I don't see a problem with it, since we're only following individual player's careers, not the whole game.

I'm trying to do as little 'meddling' as possible, but if people are on a free for too long I'll sign them to a club.

Geoff Dinnes:
Played 52 games with 16 goals, 25 assists, -4, 22 PIMs and an average rating of 7.25
Wanted by Chicago Blackhawks & Tampa Bay Lightning
So is it a contract year for me? Or is it just trade interest?

You've still got 2 more years on your contract, which is going up to $5.6mil a year

The stat pics are up: http://www.flickr.com/photos/25602012@N ... 309963970/

Clearly it wasn't a good season for the point scorers, with none in the top page of the NLH players whereas Matthew McCormick was rated 7th by save %

My player may not be the greatest but I do have some pride in the fact that I'm a better performer in the playoffs than in the regular season.

Hey Calv, I noticed I'm now with Carolina. Was I traded to Carolina or did I sign as a UFA?
