I just got totally hosed. That bug happened with the scores. I was losing 4-3, then suddenly, about 5 minutes into the third, it became 2-0 Pittsburgh. I managed to tie it up and send it to overtime, but lost.
I've been out of the loop for a while, has anyone figured out what's going on when that happens?

(most scouts were changed)
Hockey News NHL Preview picked me to finish 10th.
AHL Roster starts with:
2 G's (with a 3rd assigned to the ECHL)
6 D's (with an additional 1 sent back to junior)
15 F's (with a 16th sent back to junior)
I have Reserve List room to add one more, so to be safe I'm thinking of signing one of my D prospects so I have 7 assigned.
After October 16th, I will likely be looking to make at least a couple more roster moves, although overall I am quite satisfaied with the remake of this team in the first 12 months.
Players I may look to upgrade on:
Trent Hunter, Garth Murray, one of my defensemen, backup goalie
I've got a bit of salary room, so if I can find someone looking to shed some salary, I might be able to make it work.
My personal goal is to win the Stanley Cup this season. Injuries may be the biggest thing that could prevent that (and my lack of coaching skills!)
HArtmans--Judging from your roster above, you need to go back and read the rules. You do not have a player eligible to be your homegrown on that roster. Coleman is not eligible. Please go reread the rules. Thanks

No. But he does count for homegrown if he is signed.
ACtually now that I think about it...B72? Does he count to the farm team numbers?
According to your previous answer to one of my questions, Anton Lander does qualify as he was signed immediately after being drafted.
Unless I am misunderdstanding the answer you provided earlier.
Please let me know. I've gone a long ways in the game based on this info and would hate to have to go all the way back to June.
Thanks.

YOur roster says season 2, Anton Lander could not be drafted by you until just prior to season 2. He is not a homegrown, unless you wait til season 3. You must have him under contract and playing junior or farm team for a full season before you can use him as a homegrown. No way we answered any question about that any other way. If you think we did, then you read the answer the way you wanted to. You did not read the whole answer. Only counts as homegrown if he meets all homegrown criteria. For season 2...LAnder or any other 2007 DRAFT PICK CANNOT meet those.
Basically for everyone out there...for Season 2 of this challenge, the only guys who will be eligible for homegrown are unsigned UFAs you got signed and delivered to your team as a contracted player PRIOR to Training Camp 2006 in game, or players such as Blake Comeau who are already Isles contracted at game start.
Please do not make us have to babysit this. It is very simple. If you go slow and read the rules properly.

As I previously indicated, this is my first challenge.
I did not read the answer the way I wanted to, I read it the way it was written.
I am not expecting you to babysit, but I did ask the question and was provided an answer on it previously. My apologies for misunderstanding.
I am sorry that you feel that I am in some way taking away from your enjoyment of the challenge. It was not my intention. On the contrary, having been following the forums for some time, and playing the game on my own for several years, I thought now might be a good time to participate.
I hope I was not wrong in that assumption.
Thank you for providing additional clarification on this issue. It shouldn't happen again.
PS I am a 40 year old financial planner, who has LIVED hockey his entire life. This game is the ONLY COMPUTER/VIDEO game I play. Please do not treat my as a snot nosed teenager looking to get his rocks off beating up everyone in some forum. I apologize now if this offends anyone, but it is not intended to.

So admittedly my team has played very badly to this point.
I have dumped all the so called top players on this team for younger cast-offs like Greg Campbell, David Clarkson and Marc-Antoine Pouliot.
My resulting roster has left a very defensive minded group of 20-somethings.
I decided to go with a defensive tactic with board play and lots of backchecking.
Since the biggest changes, calling up Okposo and dumping Guerin and Sim, my team has actually improved. My PK in the last 3 games is over 90% and I am allowing alot less scoring.
Hopefully, this will get even better when Dipietro returns and I am finally able to trade Witt for MORE prospects.

YOu likely could have upped that to monster size proportions. But of course, JT probably had not signed yet, so you could not move him
I once picked a Euro kid in the 6th round. Calgary liked him so much they made an offer the day after the draft.
I negotiated and got Dion Phaneuf for him. This guy....never played in the NHL.

I'm in the offseason, tried signing Afinaganov and Pahlsson but I didn't get either of them.. Plus I was full to the brim with contracted players after signing all those players the Islanders had the rights too.. So I used some of my depth to pick up the scoring RW and gritty 3rd line C that I missed out on in free agency.
Matt Bradley (Making 1mil and was probably going to be a scratch in favor of Hollweg and Battaglia)
Jesse Joensuu (Despite having a 17 in Determination, his stats did not increase at all, even during the off season intensive training)
Greg Moore (Was probably going to stay with the big club after dominating in the AHL, with an 8.74 avg, but you gotta give to get, and I need to keep a roster spot open for my HG. I also don't want him taking time away from the mass of young players I signed to play in Bridgeport)
for
Brian Sutherby
and shortly after that, I pulled off a massive deal to get a big scorer.
Josh Bailey (I really wanted to give him a shot, but I had a lot of depths and the scouts didn't see him amounting to much, so I had to let him go while he still had value)
Fabian Brunnstrom (Was going to play for the big club this year, and the scouts said he had 2nd line potential, but he had a 2mil price tag and wasn't going to get minutes over Bergy and Tambs.. You gotta give to get)
Troy Brouwer (Another young player who was going to get a shot with the big club.. it's a numbers game, and my HG gets priority)
for
Brad Boyes
I gave up some big pieces to get these guys, so I better win some games!
Oh, and my homegrown will be Jeremy Colliton. He is 24 years old, so he qualifies, right?

The reason batdad is getting upset is because he and I are the mods that have been handling this challenge and so far there has been a ridiculous amount of problems with people not reading the rules or not understanding them. We have spent far too much time figuring what the heck people have done and trying to correct the issues. You're not the only one we've had this issue with but when you say that we told you it was okay to do something we know obviously isn't okay... it's frustrating.hartmans wrote:As I previously indicated, this is my first challenge.

Go to the post in the challenge forum that says Official Challenge 12 Rules. Find the section on homegrowns. It says...
So that means that a player that you select in the 2007 draft is in no way possible to be your homegrown player in season 2 (the 2007-2008) season. For a player to be your homegrown in season 2, they must have already been under contract when you start the game. If you're following the rules, you start your game on Aug 30th 2006 and there is no way possible to get a player to agree to a contract and join the team by September 1st 2006 so that they will be eligible to be your homegrown player for the 07-08 season. We would never tell you otherwise and the challenge rules state this clearly.2) be a player drafted (he cannot be acquired by any other method) by your team AND he has been in your system for over one full season (i.e. he must be signed and present on your roster no later than 1st September in the season prior to you nominating him as your Homegrown player. He may, however, be loaned back to a junior team during this time)

2 star guys? Usually they're not much to speak of. And these prospects, are they under contract? If they are and you're just looking to shed Streit's salary, I guess you could do it. I would think you could get much more for him though.Peterman5000 wrote:I was just offered 3 2 star prospects for Mark Streit.
Logan MacMillan ranked as a top 6 forward down the line.
You guys think I should pull the trigger?
John DeGray and someone else.

Thank you for the clarification. And I understand the frustrations that must go along with modding a challenge such as this. I speak from personal experience on that issue as I manage a number of new financial representatives and know the challenges you must face.
All I was trying to express was to try not to be condescending in the replies to questions from people who have clearly indicated they are new to the challenges but are willing to learn so they can participate in more in the future.
Turning them off by not providing clear answers when questions are asked, or adding a condescending tone to a reply will not encourage more participation in the challenges.
I look forward to continuing this challenge, and I hope to do well (while operating within the challenges rules). I am vary aware there are strict rules to be followed, thus the reason for asking the questions I did initially. I am also aware of the reporting requirements, and prepared to have my games and results peer reviewed to ensure I am abiding by the rules.
Good luck to you and batdad and everyone else participating in this challenge.

Read my next post. Pittsburgh finished 6th worst, so they moved up to #2 (selected Schenn).
I got Tavares. Didn't get as lucky as when i drafted him with my Atlanta franchise. Ottawa held onto his rights, so i sent him back to juniors, rather than play him a uear in the AHL like I did the last time I got him.
