I got "Wants a New challenge" from Ilya Kovalchuk. He wanted me to put him on the block right then and there. I refused and made him play out the rest of his contract (2 yrs left at 7.7 mil per). He did not resign and left as a free agent. Ona lark, I offered him a deal, 3 years/$21m and he took it. Now he's back in Atlanta!

I startled my wife when I said "Holy F$&%!!!!" when I read the news item.

Scoring in my game (using lidasdb) hasn't been very unrealistic. The highest point total I've seen was 123 by Spezza in the first year who regressed in later seasons - however, about 15-20 players with 100+ seasons :/ Next 2 years highest points were 103 and 118 (Kovalchuck with 68g), with a much more realistic spread. Maybe 7-8 players with 100+ (four with 110+).

My team was weird, though. 4 PPG players, and the first line was insane with two 110pt players, each of which were higher than 70 +/- - and their stats are not elite at all (antropov and cole).

Defense scoring was normal. Norris went to Edler who had 61 pts in 78 games. Runner up Niedermayer with 59 in 82. 30th leading D was .49 ppg.

Also, question: Does current ability (CA), as seen in the editor, directly correspond to the player's attributes that you see in-game? Like, are they added up and averaged somehow to give a CA rating? Or can the attributes you see be horrid, but the CA be very high, which would correspond to lots of points scored per game?

Does potential ability (PA) have much effect on how well a player plays? for example, steve chaffin has terrible attributes (nothing greater than 10 in technical, 10s/11s in physical except strength and stamina (which are 20)), but his PA is 160, and he's rated as the 3rd best D in the AHL and is putting up lots of points. Same thing was with Tavares in the OHL. His attributes weren't very good, but he had 3 PPG. Same with Doughty in his final junior year, 2.5PPG.

This may explain Antropov's point production and 8.5+ AvR (which is continuing in his first year with Ducks now), who has 164 PA. But then again, Steen has 160 PA and can't produce more than 40 pts and 7 AvR. Both have similar attributes in game except for size, obviously.

potential performance = current ability + attributes (also the hidden ones) + off/def role + size :-k

With a high player potential there is a good chance that he will develop some good attributes and his current ability will reach the potential ability. However, sometimes you'll see a regen with a high ability but low attributes. It's all about probability, coaching.... Of course it's also important how many minutes you let them play and what tactics you use. Steen and Antropov have similar attributes and ability but their size difference (esp. weight) is the key in this case.

To sum up:
Both the current ability and the attributes reflect a players progress and there is a correlation. But the development is limited by potential, off/def role and fixed attributes like workrate.

Hope it helps a bit.:-)

I'd bet 10 internet dollars that Crosby is getting tons of ice-time. It's the only way really.

His icetime:

My tactics:

He plays on 1st.line, PP1, PP1 5v3 and ES1.

I play a slapshot-tactic and use every center as a playmaker.

Your tactics look extreme, though :D

Actually not, I'm trying this out now and my team scores like 3 goals in first period and then they keep their own net clear, just won a match with 3-1.

I got the best PP in the league with 16.2%. I play with Djurgården in Swedish Elitserien. But this is getting too far off topic and should better fit in either the tactics thread or the thread for the Slapshot tactic.

I can make a topic in the tactics thread, and put my tactic up there.

I have a game with Frölunda. Magnus Kahnberg got 91 points one season(39 goals). The next season Jonas Johnson had 62 assists. I won a game 18-1 against Luleå...62-16 in shots. They blocked 38 shots.

Well, I'm talking about game realism. Such a tactic - if the game was a tad more realistic tactics-wise - should be succesfull only in the last 5 minutes of play while trailing by one or two goals. Otherwise the players should be dead on ice after 10-15 minutes. IMHO.

Next season is over, he racked up 202 points this season if I remember correct. Could have been a little bit more, but the top goalscorer was out for 3 months(linemate a little missed).
