Searching in Saved Game Editor

Post by thatsarap »

I have the 2007.0.4 version of the Saved Game Editor - which is the latest one available I know of - and I've searched the forums but haven't found anything covering this.

Has anyone created an add-on for the Saved Game Editor that enables you to search within it? Say for instance you want to separate all coaches from players, or search for players based on a given birth year. I know you can separate free agents and players by team. But the current editor doesn't allow you to search within the database - unless I've totally missed it.

Any help here would be greatly appreciated! And if it's not available, might it be something the creators of this wonderful tool consider for a potential update?

Thanks.

No, I've never heard of any add-ons for any of the editors. :dunno:

It's not possible to create 'add-ons' for the editors. In order to add the same filters as what is on the pre-game editor would mean quite a big re-write of the editor and to be totally honest - there isn't much i can add to the editor and so to be honest it just isn't going to happen.

When I saw the "Tools" tab in the Saved Game Editor, I thought the author(s) were leaving room to add to the section in addition to the "Edit Wage Caps" option. Being that "Tools" is plural, it appeared future updates were planned. A search option here would be a logical possibility, as such an option appears in similar sections of other programs.

Similarly, as the "Staff" tab has options for "Free Agents" as a filter, as well as filtering by teams, I wondered if something could be done to filter by other fields (such as "Date of Birth"), or if non-players could be filtered.

While a search function or additional filters here would be a great enhancement, I wasn't aware of the complexities involved, nor would I want to suggest something that would require substantial rewrite of the code.

I am curious though, if other enhancements were originally planned, and what they might have been.

None of this is meant to detract from the work that made this great tool available to us.

Cheers.

'Tools' is just a standard menu title for 'odds n sods'. I never planned any extra 'tools' - it was added in case anything further came along (there are several items under tools on the pre-game editor).

If the game had continued i would most certainly have re-written the code and added further filters. Sadly when the game 'died' so did my drive to develop the editors further. Maybe someday i will go back and do more work on them.

Regarding future enhancements - i always planned to try and allow editing of contracts etc but never managed to decode the part of the saved game that dealt with it so sadly it never got written.

Thanks for the kind words!
