Free agents, ? do they love there team?

Post by Crombeen »

Hi,

I was playing the game and something i don't like is that always the same important players of team go away free agents.
Like Sakic, Modano, Forsberg, and and and..

i know that its normal that it happens but after one maybe 2 year you don't know any roster anymore.
All teams have trade so much and release there players so often that its crazy to see.

Is there a way that you can led Sakic stay in Colorado, and how do you led Lindros retire after one year.

Maybe there is a way that players like Jagr go play in Europe? (after one year)

thanks

In my game Toews spends his entire career in Chicago, Datsyuk with the wings, Thornton with the Sharks, Iginla and Phanuef(Sp?) with the Flames, Ovechkin with the Caps ect. Thats not to say nobody ever moved Zetterberg was tossed around to several teams, as was Kopitar.

Lots of players stay their entire career with 1 team though, but I found the best way to ensure that a player stays with one team(sakic, Modano) is to manual edit their contracts so they are signed until they are 40 so that once the contract is up they retire...if not before.

You can't really dictate retirements without A)manually making the player 40, B) using the Saved game editor and making the player extremely terrible, 1 current ability, 1 potential ability with 20 injury prone.

In the Editor, you can select which players have favourite teams and staff. Meaning during the Free Agency period, they are more prone to remain with that club.

Not many players in my games spend their whole careers with the same team, in fact the only 1's i can think of are Lidstrom with the Wings, and Sundin with the Leafs. In relation to this, if a player has a favourite staff member, i.e. a family member or favourite GM, they may also be prone to joining the club they are at as well.

So with Sakic, if he goes to Free Agency and is offered a contract by Colorado, he will more than likely take that contract. So maybe it's due to the fact that they are not offering him a contract. Maybe go to Colorado Avalance in the editor and add Sakic to their list of favourite players.

I had a problem with this very situation today. After my first season with the Wings (I won the Cup), Kirk Maltby absolutely refuses to sign with me all year. He becomes a free agent, then turns down my offer again and signs with the Avalanche. The worst part? He signed for half of what I offered him. It makes no sense to me at all. It even says in his bio that his favorite team is the Red Wings.

Anyone have any ideas why this would happen?

Maybe he expected a better role on the team. I guess you had him set to regular or fringe player and he was expecting to be a at least a core player on the team. If you win cups the reputation of players goes up and they all want to be key or core players on the team (and of course want more money!).

I had him as a core player and offered him a contract as a core player, but he repeatedly turned me down. So who knows what the problem was....

You should have given him an offer as a key player, he prolly would have signed for that.
