in the player search function there is a filter. Click on UFA and it will list every single UFA on July 1. Not sure if you can filter repuration, but there are tons of filters there. For role players, you just have to go a few pages down in the UFA list and you will find guys who are very good, good, ok, normal rep. They are the role players. There are usually pages of UFAs for me on July 1. Make sure you don't have any other filters activated other than UFA.
I think this is what you meant. If you want to get more specific I am not sure

In the "Player Search" filters, under Contract, select Free Agent-> UFA. This will give you every player who is considered to be unrestricted for the NHL. Unfortunately, other than news items (which is mainly for high-rep players) you have to do the grunt work yourself. Check contract expiration dates prior to July 1, team by team, player by player and see who is going UFA. Note who you may want to pursue and offer them the contract on July 1.
If anyone knows of a better way of doing this, I'm all ears.

Scouting and searching.Sucker Punch wrote:I know this doesn't really fit into this thread, but it's a simple question, and doesn't fit in any other.
Is there anyway to see a list of players who have become free agents in a given summer? The game will list info about all the big name UFAs, but for roleplayers, I often don't find out they're available until after they've been signed.
Any tips on finding depth UFAs?
Send out scouts to Russia, Sweden and Finland. Do the same for AHL and possibly ECHL. Do a sort on attributes you care about (I usually start with Wristshot, then Faceoff, Positioning, etc) and start looking at each player and see if he has NHL rights. Eventually you'll uncover a number of gems.
Even if they do have NHL rights, some of the older guys (24 and up) can be traded for cheap. Like say a 4th round pick, sometimes lower but keep in mind some of those players, if overseas, might be hard to sign.
--------------That didn't totally answer your question so...
In regards to finding the list of UFAs for a summer, go to your scouting section, click on player search and then filter by UFA. You can then sort that list by reputation usually and that will give you a "best to role player to scrap heap" order. You can also filter by attribute, so if you want a defensive FWD, you can set the attributes for position, pokecheck, work rate to 14 and position to FWD.
Just a couple things I have tried in the past.

I signed Martin Lapointe in the first season for my Ottawa Senators, 53 points in 82 games and finishing up with a 7.67 rating. He also won the defensive player award (can't remember name) and has been wanted by teams the whole second season. He's cheap too, 3 year contract with 715.000 € p/y. His influence is 17, wich is great.

I always go after these guys:
Mitch Maunu (D) - Decent AHL d-man, nice fill-in at the NHL level but not sure what he turns into, if anything.
Miika Wiikman (G) - mentioned by other posters, I get him about half the time, the rest of the league really goes after this guy. No idea how he turns out though.
Mitch Bartley (LW/RW) - Decent potential, no idea how he turns out but great at the minor league level.
Rob Hisey (C) - Really good potential with this guy, nobody else ever goes after him in the beginning of the game.
Yan Stastny (C/RW) - In EHM 2005, this guy is a free agent, in EHM 2007 he is with Boston. Acquired for a song, he is a nice short-term fill in and plays well at the AHL level.
I have never completed more than 2 seasons, so I really have no idea how these (and other) prospects turn out, but I am the type of player whom really likes to stock my farm system right from the beginning and then build through the draft, with the occasional free agent signing.

I have always tried to build a good core in my team through draft. Some talented players that get to know each other well and develop some nice chemistry. And to get a star through UFA signing it's luxury for me. I would try to sign a star player only if he would make my team significanlty better and if he's small enough so that i don't need to pay him much.Ronc wrote:... Does anybody have good tips for singing UFAs. I really cant sign those stars?

But i think you should always be able to get the star that you want if you offer him significantly more then what he's expecting, never more than three years of contract and a better player status. If your scouts say the player is very ambitious then you should maybe consider to offer him only one year of contract.

I'm currently playing as the Oshawa Generals in the OHL, and im wondering come the off-season whether I should keep Tavares (hoping whatever team drafts him will send him back to the OHL) or trade him (assuming that they will keep in the big league). Just wondering how often in your experience the AI keeps Tavares and how often they send him back!

I have a had quite a few solid players that I usually pick up that end up performing well.
Rob Hisey- Usually tears it up in the AHL and comes in as a bottom guy in the NHL but puts up points
Linus Videll- Stepped in for me in the 1st year and played really solid
Linus Klassen- Played alright I have had games where I cut him after 1 year in the AHL and others he becomes a solid player
Kristian Kuusela- The guy usually puts up tons in the AHL for me then Ive had him put up 90 points for me once in the NHL which was nice
Christopher Heino-Lindberg- Stuck him in the ECHL and then the AHL, won a Calder Cup and was solid as a backup for me in the NHL though I have had him struggle before in the ECHL and released him so hes been hit and miss for me
To be honest all these guys always played well for me the 1st time I signed them and after that it varies but I always end up giving them a year all the time. Same with Ville Leino but hes on Detroit now

Videll has played very well for me in the AHL. Also Ryan Duncan from the University of North Dakota can play too. I signed him and threw him into the mix in the first year bouncing between the top 2 lines and he produced 13G and 50A in the first season.jays_leafs4life wrote:I have a had quite a few solid players that I usually pick up that end up performing well.

Anyone notice Mikkel Bodker makes a nice offensive defenseman?

Videll, Duncan, Hisey and Klassen would be my suggestions. Grigorenko if he's a UFA for you is AMAZING. He is 2nd on my team in goals currently in his rookie season bouncing between the 2nd and 3rd lines, 2nd PP.Prowl wrote:Hey guys
I'm playing with Lidas' database and wondering what some good cheap players are to try and get since the ones in this thread are from older databases. Thanks guys for the help as I try to take the 'Nucks to a Stanley Cup

I did try to sign Videll, Klasen, and they won't be joining me until June 07.....due to the international transfer rules. Can someone explain what this means because on the player contracts, it has 2006-07 as the 1st year. Does that mean they don't join me until next year for a season only? Thanks for your help

If you're looking for an ECHL/AHL player, and don't care if he never progresses beyond that, Rob Globke is great. He's another player I saw in one of my first saves, with the Florida Everblades, and later I told a friend about him. Since then, we've always tried to snag him to fill up an AHL spot when we can. He never really gets better and it's obvious he's not an actual prospect in EHM, but he'll fill any roll you ask of him in the ECHL or AHL, he'll step up his game when needed, he's easy to aquire and hang onto, and he's a good faceoff man.

just some more about Igor Grigorenko... this dude has been an absolute beast for me. I signed him in the first season and he came over after season 1. Since then i have been bouncing him between the top 2 lines and top 2 PPs and he has been great. He's played 63 games, has 35 goals 43 assists for 78 points in his rookie season. Unforunately he's 26 years old so i don't think he's considered a rookie. Or else he would be the the leading rookie scorer by far. The highest rookie scorer is Voracek with 47 points lol.

Gah, I hate it how signing UFA's is set to be completely impossible..
Finished second last season, so my team shouldn't be so unlikeable place for new players, but still I can't sign one freaking player. And that is a problem, 'cause after the last season my defense lost three veteran players, so now I have only three defensemen, one pair one, one pair two and one pair three. Guess I have no other option to trade on of my forwards for a defenseman, Semin the most likely and get a youngster to replace him..
Anyone ever had good luck on signing UFA's? I threw offers for more than then players and no-one of them seemes to be willing to join my Devils..
And I'm not even looking for a star players, just a good 3-4 defenseman would be fine..

It seems quite easy for me. Try to offer them a long term contracts (min. 3 year). Older players like to have their future secured. Younger players (still developing) don't like signing 4 year contracts becouse the forth year they will become much better -> and uderrated.#26 wrote:Gah, I hate it how signing UFA's is set to be completely impossible..

In EHM 2007 (unfaked rosters), I have found that there are a number of guys playing overseas, and some from North America, that I usually go after at the beginning.
- Stanislav Chistov - The best European signing I've had. Brought him to the NHL in my second year, and he score 40+ points on my third line.
- Ville Leino - Good Centerman. He holds down the #1 spot on my AHL team, and works as a good depth NHL center as well.
- Dave Scatchard - Good NHL depth centerman
- Jiri Hunkes - Good top pairing AHL defenseman, and depth NHL defenseman
- Mathieu Roy - A solid AHL guy from the QMJHL
- Sean Collins - A solid AHL guy who has made it to my NHL team as a long-term call up. Can play all 3 forward positions well.
- Jared Aulin - Good faceoff man
- Mark Giordano - an NHL calibre defenseman playing in Europe
- Richie Regehr - A defenseman who is on the verge of a regular NHL job

If you want an impact player Igor Grigorenko is the guy to go after. 3 different games i've signed him and in his first season bou nced him between the 1st and 2nd lines and the lowest he's put up is 36 goals, highest he put up was 51 goals. He is a goalscoring machine with a good playmaker.Iceman90 wrote:In EHM 2007 (unfaked rosters), I have found that there are a number of guys playing overseas, and some from North America, that I usually go after at the beginning.

I've had success with Grigorenko in all the latest Lidas databases, 1.1, 1.2 and 1.3Joe wrote:With Grigorenko, are you guys talking about him in the latest patch?
As for Hisey, I've seen him play before. He came out of juniors I think to play in the UHL playoffs, he was awesome, real fast, drew a ton of penalties with his speed and good set up guy.

Always tried to have Artem Dubinin. He is a rock on the back end and he develops really nicely. can logs a ton of time, play the penalty kill as a possessed man, can put points when relyed on. He is not a very offensive defenseman but do you know a lot of Stay at home D that can log 30 points constantly over the years?
