Ducks acquire Pogge from Maple Leafs

The Toronto Maple Leafs have traded goaltending prospect Justin Pogge to the Anaheim Ducks for a conditional sixth-round pick in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft that could end up becoming as high as a third-round pick depending on how many games Pogge starts for the Ducks over the course of the next two seasons.
If Pogge ends up starting 30 or more regular-season games for the Ducks -- or another NHL team he is traded to by Anaheim -- between the 2009-10 and 2010-11 seasons, the Maple Leafs would receive the higher draft pick.
Wasn't Pogge the Laff's big goalie prospect a while back? I remember they traded the Bruins Rask because they had him waiting in the wings. Did he not turn out so good? I thought he was still kind of young.

Goalie prospects are so unpredictable. I have the impression that it doesn't matter what round you pick them at the draft. Remember Brent Krahn, drafted by Calgary 9th overall in the 2000 draft?
Yeah, having been a Bruins fan all of my life, I know how unpredictable goalie prospects can be. I just thought Pogge might have a little more of an evaluation time. How old is he? Maybe 22? Goalies take longer to come along. You've got to be patient with them.

I think the Ducks may give it till trade deadline. To see how Hiller and Giguere play this year. If Giguere has another bad year and Pogge looks decent in our AHL team (which we still don't have ). I guess the Ducks will trade away Giguers 7Million a year contract for a big Forward or something...
Zherdev is apparently going to play in Russia next year. Not surprising really.

Who's reporting this. Sundin still has it in him. More than Fleury i'd say. Surely he'd want to join a big team and have one final crack to win the cup.

Its quite sure, cause he says that he's not going to play in Olympics. Reporter was Swedish "Nya Tidning"-magazine's Henrik Söderlund.
Shadd666 wrote:Yeah, Sundin announced a while back that he won't play again for team Sweden. But that's just an "international retirement", not a career retirement.
Yeah but, "Nya Tidning"-reporter said that he retires (that international retirement i know but i added it to same reply). I haven't read that "Nya Tidning"-article, i only read Finnish "Elisa.net"-article.
Icehockeyplayer Mats Sundin retires, said Swedish "Nya Tidning"-magazine. Sundin said earlier that he's not going to play in Vancouver Olympics 2010. Magazine said that Sundin is not going to play next year.
- "Mats Sundin retires - conclusively" said reporter Henrik Söderlund in magazine's blog.
Sundin, 38, started his NHL-career in season 1990-1991 in Quebec Nordiques. He played in Toronto Maple Leafs 1994-2008. Sundin didn't play in last autumn, but he made contract with Vancouver Canucks last January.

Great acquisition from the Caps! Maybe he could make Theo a better goalie and make Varlamov potential blow up for good.
Oh great, maybe we can have another taste of last seasons Sundinisms.
"I haven't made up my mind yet, i will make a decision in the fall."
Yeah right...

I am tired of that Sundin saga! Retire already, so I don't have to face Sedin-Sedin-Sundin line on EHM anymore. It drives me crazy.
Vaclav Prospal goes to New York Rangers with one-year-contract (about 1,1 mills). I think that it's nice that he can continue his NHL-career and that he doesn't went to KHL.
MONTREAL CANADIENS-Signed Matt D'Agostini to a one-year contract.
American Hockey League
ROCHESTER AMERICANS-Named Kerry Atkinson senior vice president of sales and marketing.
ECHL
CHARLOTTE CHECKERS-Announced an affiliation agreement with Colorado (NHL).
LAS VEGAS WRANGLERS-Agree to terms with F Dan Riedel on a one-year contract. Acquired the rights to D Craig Switzer from Elmira for the rights to F Tim Spencer.
I think that Messier is best man to be Rangers assistant GM cause of his NHL-experoence and that he was Rangers captain. Maybe players listen more Messier than Glen Sather, cause there's no player who not respect Messier.
I read on The Hockey News website that Messier was named "special" assistant to the GM. I don't know if that's quite the same as an assistant GM. It could be one of those positions that are give to former players so they can go out in front of the media and fans, smiles, and make good public relations.

Yeah, he was named as special assistant GM, but maybe it's same as assistant GM. . Maybe it's just special name for special assistant.
