Yeah they changed that back a bit because they had too many members. And not only that, but even once on you have to
1. only invite people who are good or the mods/admins smack you down later
2. if you invite a bad one you get bad boy points.
3. My advice...don't invite anyone until you know em real well.....not sure 4 posts counts as knowing em
4. once you are in, I believe there are still areas you cannot post/access in until you reach a certain level of trust.
A couple of our members are now mods over there on their teams boards and the site. really neat to see that.
I think there are limited windows of time when you can sign up without a referral. I had lurked there as a guest (not logged in with an account) for a couple years or so and then a month or two ago I finally decided to join. I was able to just register on my own. Did it go back to requiring referrals?

Well a couple of weeks ago, you could register on your own as well. For some reasons I never got any reply or activation mail whatsoever, and now they're back to the friendly referral thing

Do they sell drugs or something?
1. Too many users -> too big a database -> server costs
2. Too many idiots, fake accounts whatever
3. Yeah, reading some of the stuff you could actually be under the impression there's loads of drugs involved
I highly recommend the Leafs forum. Komi for Norris!
You don't give up a guy like Matty Stajan just like that.
Seriously though, HFB can be quite useful. I can gather all the information about my team without having to go to 10 different sites...and some of the Photoshop stuff is pretty cool.

Well I can totally understand the need for a selective registration, especially on a sport dedicated board. Though I have seen some serious flamings there over the last weeks.
Alessandro, do you know if its usual that people dont get any answer for an apply (im not bickering heh just asking ) ?

Frankly I've got no clue, I'm a writer, I am not involved in the the site administration!
Laiho wrote:I have tried to join both by myself and by invitation, but both times i get this message:
"Sorry, due to abuse problems from user(s) with your ISP we no longer accept registrations from it."
Anyone knows what it means and if there´s a way around it? I´ve never had an account on HFboards before so i don´t understand why this comes up.
Small offtopic explanation: this happens when you have dynamic IP address. It is shared with others by your ISP and HF decided to block the whole ISP. They can easily block wide range of IP addresses. So even you've never been registered on HF, you're blocked. You can thank to other customers of your ISP.
But you can change ISP and it could work then.
I've been a member there for a number of years. Didn't need a referral to join back then. I never realized that it had become a part of the site. Interesting.
i can only dream of being a member there one day. darn these exclusive clubs. Now i know how micheal scott feels.
I go there from time to time to check out the "hockey business" news. Some great stuff on that site.
I'm surprised that its invite only though. You'd think they would incourage people joining. Maybe they just got to many spammers and were sick of it.
EDIT: That's it. I'm going to try and Signing up there now. ..why not? lol Doesn't look like it's invite only...although it does ask if you were referred to the site...
