Oh, and BTW--Can I ask who dropped Hartnell again? You know, the MVP of Fantasy Hockey last year? Anyway, the dude in the first period tonight, 1G, 2A, 1PPG, 1shot, 2 minutes, plus 2. Yeah, one period. Funny what happens.
BTW-Thanks to whoever the numbskull was. Cause him and Richards...make magic in pools like this.

I thought we had a minimum number of players per position? That's kind of lame to not have any defensemen.corinthian wrote:I've noted that batdad team doesn't have d-men. That's mean this league has a flaw or not?
I'm congratulating batdad for noticing that. maybe is time to dump a lot of d-men from my team.j':-k'

Huh. I did notice that there was a bit of FA juggling going on and while I don't have a huge problem with that I'd say that having no defensemen on your team is clearly questionable. I'm not a fan of changing the rules of any game while in progress but atleast for next season I would like to see a minimum number of players required at each position. 2 LW, 2 C, 2 RW, 4 D and 2 G seems reasonable to me since that's the number we were required to draft.
Edit: I suppose an acquisition limit would also make sense, and is clearly supported in the league settings. Maximizing your number of starters through FAs each night is obviously an advantage even if they are "leftovers".

To be honest, I didn't realize that you could have no players at a position. I thought those 'minimums' were automatically set from the roster requirements, but I guess that was a bit of an oversight on my part.
And I'm not a fan of changing rules mid-stream, either, but I think this may be a case where we should, if ESPN lets us. Our teams should definitely be required to have at least the positions advertised - and letting this go would throw our rosters way off this intent as we all dump defensemen to remain competitive for the remainder of the year.
As for the acquisition limits, I also agree. I know Yahoo! has started that this year, and they allow up to four acquisitions per mathup. I don't know if ESPN has a setting for this (I'm at work, so I can't check since fantasy sports are blocked), but I could enforce it manually if they don't.
I look into all this as soon as I get home this evening.
P.S. The 'roster minimums' appears to be a pretty big loophole, so thanks a lot for bringing this up, corinthian.

Okay....my explanation.
1. I had these injuries:
Gonchar, Pavelski, Luongo, Souray, Ericsson, one other dman...forget who it was now.
2. I have one IR spot. I tried to leave Pavelski on it. Injured Souray. Tried Souray. Injured Gonchar. Tried Gonchar...injured Luongo.
So..when I made these moves I had to choose: Do I drop guys and pick up 5th and 6th dmen on naff teams? Not much out there. Or do I pick up normal players who are 2nd and 3rd liners.
Yes...I agree that the rules for moving players in and out of your roster should be more limited...but then we need more than 1 IR spot on a roster of 15. If that can be added in, no issue...but it would have to wait til next season.
When the first discussion of keeper league came up...waaaay back when...it was talked about setting rosters for the whole week. But it was not done. I have no problem with doing it that way, and waiver/free agency/trade does not come into play until the next week starts. I thought that was the way it was and played it that way for a bit.
I noticed that this was not the way it was done in this league, which is fine by me. So...when I saw others making moves every day, I started making moves every day.
Now...are these moves the reason I am 5-0? Nope. They are the reason I won exactly one game. This week. Rask.
Rest assured---I will have dmen on my roster in the future of this season. I know I should. I have 1 right now, and tomorrow will likely have more again.
The loophole comes because of the injuries I have had to my dcore. I would not have this type of roster should I have healthy dmen. And when healthy I will not. Yep its a loophole alright, but it does not mean I am doing any better than anyone else because of it. Really it has not helped me. If you look at my changes, it is maybe 1 day a week I don't have at least 2 dmen dressed for games they are playing.THere are alot of days noone plays, or not many play...so I may not have dmen that day...right.
If we were to make a rule that by xmas everyone must have at least 4 dmen o ntheir roster at all times...I have no issue with that, and will get up to par no problem. If someone were to say I had to have 4 dmen on my roster with my injuries every day...I would. Why? Because the IR only has 1 person on it, and I have been smacked hard at one position. I can make moves to get the d..no problem.
And I am not the only one...
And if we are changing rules midstream...it is not right for me in that area. Why? because Gonchar would never ever have been released by me if that was the case. And now another team has him. I took a chance based on these rules that I may get him back and I may not. But if the rules were you HAVE To have four dmen ALL the time...I would never have released him.

I do agree that more than one IR position would be a good idea. I've got Cole on the IR and Lucic benched because I don't want to drop either of them. They'll be very useful once they come back.
As for defensemen, I think you could manage to get 4 of them on your team before X-mas. That's almost 2 months from now.

No I was saying i could get them on by then no problem. Guys that are good or decent anyway, and I have always planned to have them. Most nights I do. I just keep trading guys around and some nights I do not want to pick up say....Ron Hainsey or some useless bum from Columbus, so I pick up say Steve Downie or Travis Moen or another one dimensional type F.
IF the rules change, Gonchar should come back to me as I was playing by one set of standards that apparently may change.
I don't think you can change rules midstream. To use challenge rules..guys did things I did not like, but it was not against the rules, so we did not punish that challenge or change things that challenge, we changed it for the next one (all the while discussing about how it was not in the spirit of the challenges.
Anyway, the transactions rules for this game...add/drop just means in the end it is who gets the most guys playing the most games that week who wins. Honestly, part of the reason that Vasteras and I are 5-0 is because we make changes every day and have guys playing all the time.

Which i kinda don't like. But you're right. Rules can't be changed mid game.batdad wrote:Anyway, the transactions rules for this game...add/drop just means in the end it is who gets the most guys playing the most games that week who wins. I was extremely surprised to see you drop Gonchar. This is a keeper league. And for the next year's he'd be healthy. I'm surprised a month old injury would force you to drop him.

He is 102, And you only have to keep 2 dmen. So I have Whitney, and whoever else I want. Gonchar is not really a guy I would even think about as a keeper. I did have another dman I was thinking of as a keeper but then he got hurt...and I dumped him too. No worries, I have my keeper thoughts in mind.

I'm disappointed this league turned out to a joke, as it has. If I had knew that being able to play this league the way it seems to be ment to be played requires me several hours of juggling with FAs every week, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have participated in it. I have no time or intention to change half of my team every evening or even every week, so I suppose I'm gonna be relegated after the season. It's a shame as there would have been others who would have loved to get in the league and maybe they even would have been ready to play it in the way it is now. In the way it really shouldn't be played, in my opinion.

Kuulaapa--Cannot say I disagree with you on the FA moves all the time. Honestly, when I saw it happening (and not to blame anyone) I was surprised at it. Then I thought...well to compete I have to as well with all these injuries. I guess I could have said..forget it and not done anything just like you, but I end up competing with what the rules are.
In keeper leagues I have played in the past it has always been you set your roster Sunday night for the week, and that is the way it stays for the week. I honestly thought that was what this was like, up until the first week when I saw you could change your roster every day. I was surprised and went with it.
Then as I saw that guys were getting hurt on my team left and right, I was upset about only 1 IR slot, but went with it. Pavelski on IR, Pavelski off IR for Souray. Souray off and kept for Gonchar....
Then I noticed that there were players added and dropped left and right, up to a third of a roster every single day. Not to blame--he just noticed the way it worked and used it. So then I started.
Then after a bit of that, I took it even a step further...with the position thing once Gonchar had to come off IR for Lebongo.
Hey I agree it is sketchy...but when I saw it available I went for it.
I apologize if it pees people off, but to keep up with the Joneses I went for it.
As I said, I can and will move back to having more dmen on my roster. But with the dmen out there...I will be adding and dropping every day.
Again, this is the first season of the league, and noone who is running it had run this type of league...trial and error right? It will get better and things will be glued in.
